Hearing someone else, Nomi looked up and smiled brightly. “Hello miss!” She nodded, for once happy that she didn’t have to lie about everything. “Yep, I’m waiting for Mr. Ja’far he had his first day of work and I wanted to come give him a hug and ask him how it went yeah?”
Since that night in the library, Ja’far had taken her in and just in a few days she felt more loved and safe than she’d ever even known was possible. He gave her a full three meals a day, and nice clothes and blankets and as many hugs as she wanted. He had’t even gotten mad and hurt her which was both unexpected and appreciated.
At the offer she beamed and hopped excitedly. “Aah! Really? That’s so nice thank you!” She exclaimed happily. “My name’s Nomi and I’m from a place in Reim…er…well I guess you probably don’t know where that is since we’re in a place so different here…it’s so nice though I love it here!”
She gave a tiny gasp and bowed a bit in respect. “Oh I’m sorry, I should have asked before. What’s your name miss? Where are you from? Do you like it here? Is there anything I can do to help you maybe?”
So she was right! The girl is waiting on her guardian. That brings back memories. Are all kids this talkative? The only human child she knew was Abe and she can’t recall him ever being so chatty. He was more actions than words. But she likes the company and the girl seems nice! So Maria returns the tiny bow with a curtsy. ❝It’s nice to meet you, Nomi! That’s a pretty name. I’m Maria and you don’t have to do anything for me. I’m here to keep you company, remember?❞ A pause, a finger to her lips, and eyes to the sky as she ponders the other two questions. Her opinion on the city isn’t too hard, but where she’s from… Is she allowed to say? So many things about the ARK were classified. She’d never asked if the identity of the residents were too. Though she supposes it doesn’t matter much anymore since GUN shut them down. Plus at such a young age Nomi is more likely to believe her than an adult. That settles it then! Looking back down at Nomi she responds cheerfully,
❝Yes, I love it here! I’ve never been in a city before and it’s a lot different from the ARK. There’s so much nature here. What’s your favorite part of Stella? I like the garden and the market street. Oh, and what’s Reim like? I’ve never heard of it.❞ She’s studied the whole planet and finds it a bit strange she’s never heard of Nomi’s homeland but an opportunity to learn is never missed!
"Aaah Maria is such a pretty name!!"
She grinned then at the compliment. "Oh thanks, I think it's pretty too...my mama said my name was an accident like I am and I was kinda sad about it but mr. Ja'far says it means delightful and that I'm that way too so...that makes me feel a bit better about it."
Nomi nodded, smiling sheepishly. "I know, I just like being helpful so if there's anything I can do to help you ever just let me know okay?"
Now that she was no longer scared, Nomi was an absolute chatter box. She was more than willing to talk about anything and everything, even if a lot of things from her past were better left unmentioned. She still didn't exactly know that she hadn't had a normal or at all pleasant life until now, and that others might find that concerning.
"Woah you've never been in a city before? That's cool...what's 'the ARK'? Is it nice there? Oh...my favorite part of this place....hmm...does mr. Ja'far count? I like staying in his room with him since he gives me cuddles and tells me lots of cool stories about his home country Sindria and he reads to me and he hasn't ever even gotten mad and hit me!"
At the queston of what Reim was like, she frowned a bit. "Well...I lived in the slums so I never got to see that much of it but it's...it's kinda...well sad. Since there's lots of scary people...and...and if your ever left alone without your parents slave traders usually come and get you...and..and if you're not worth enough and you get sick...they'll...well I'm not really sure exactly what they did but they threw me in this well...and I couldn't breathe for a bit? And...and then I fell asleep I think? But...but I woke up here which is good because then I met mr. Ja'far and he says I'm not a slave anymore so that's really nice."
She tried to think for a moment then though, not wanting to portray her home country as all bad. "There are plenty of good things about Reim too though...I don't really know many of them since they're mostly for richer people but...I know there's a lieberry kinda like the one here just really big and cool...it's got one of the biggest lieberry and it's got all sorts of books and scrolls."
"And...and there's a magic lady that rules it...and even though it's a country that has a lot of slavery I guess it has a lot of ex slaves at the palace who protect the country? It's really cool actually... mr. Ja’far wall telling me about it since he felt bad I couldn't think of anything good from my old homeland..."
