5 mind-blowing facts about Henrietta Lacks, the black woman whose cells were stolen for science.

They can be grown indefinitely or frozen for decades. Her cell line, called HeLa, was the first immortal cell line to grow in a lab.

They were used to test the polio vaccine. And they were the first cells to be cloned. They helped develop drugs to treat leukemia and Parkinson’s disease and so much more.

Her cells were sent to space to see what would happen to human tissue in zero gravity.

That’s because they were taken from her without her consent. She died of cervical cancer at 31 years old in 1951. Before her death, cancer cells were taken from her tumor.

A book by Rebecca Skloot “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks” is now being turned into a movie. Oprah plays Henrietta’s daughter Deborah.

Is Henrietta Lacks finally getting the recognition she deserves?

Did You Know Large Wine Bottles Have Special Names?

Wine bottle names are… odd. Once you get large enough, the wine holders become named after biblical kings:

1.5 L Magnum: Equivalent to two standard 750 ml bottles.

3.0 L Double Magnum: Equivalent to two Magnums or four standard 750 ml bottles.

4.5 L Jeroboam : Equivalent to six standard 750 ml bottles.

6.0 L Imperial: Equivalent to eight standard 750 ml bottles or two Double Magnums. Why they stopped using kings here I don’t know.

9.0 L Salmanazar: Equivalent to twelve standard 750 ml bottles or a full case of wine!

12.0 L Balthazar: Equivalent to sixteen standard 750 ml bottles or two Imperials.

15.0 L Nebuchadnezzar: Equivalent to twenty standard 750 ml bottles.

Interestingly, I looked around and could not find why the names are what they are. The names just appeared, I guess, and everyone agreed to use them.

So tumblr won't let me post my video, I guess because its too long?? Anyways, I removed my introductions and added what I might possibly say towards the end. Instead of choosing a handful of friends, I am only going to focus on my 3 bff from high school. The 3 of them have each made there own recordings giving appropriate memories of us.
