“No, I’m not lost.” Stella raised a brow at the slim blonde that answered the door. She wasn’t terribly unappealing, at least Gabriel had been right about that part. “I’m Stella, Gabriel’s sister. I’ve heard a lot about you.”
“Oh! Stella, of course,” Isabella’s eyes widened slightly. “You’re beautiful, by the way. Gabriel has talked about you a lot, of course. Did you want to come in?”
Stella took her time finding Isabella's room, knocking on it a few times and stepping back. She quickly ran a hand through her hair and fixed her dress before looking up, waiting for the door to open.
Isabella looked up from her book and walked to her door, opening it slowly as she hadn’t been expecting anyone. “Hi,” she smiled softly. “Are you lost?”

“Gilen was nice, but I don’t like the fact that he disappeared without a trace and without letting Stella know.” Regardless of why he did it, he didn’t approve especially since it had hurt Stella. He chuckled, finding it sweet that Isabella wanted to take care of him. “All right, then I hope it’s just you in my room with a lot of blankets.” He smiled when she said she loved him, wanting nothing more than that. He kissed his back, though it didn’t last nearly as long as he wanted it to. “I am a little tired. I think it’s the medication they’ve been giving me.” When she mentioned singing to him, he nodded. “I would like that.”
“You’re very protective over your sisters,” Isabella gave him a small smile. “I can’t imagine what would make anyone simply disappear like that. Stella must have felt terrible.” She hated the thought, unsure of what she would do if that happened with Gabriel for some reason. “It will be just me, lots of blankets, and your favorite foods and movies. Whatever you want.” She sat next to him, playing with his hair and nodding. “I’ll let you sleep and when you wake up, I’m sure the nurse will let me take you back to your room, if I beg enough,” she teased softly, beginning to sing a lullaby she knew from when she was little.

“I’m glad. They seem to like each other a lot.” And this one he had no qualms over. He didn’t know much about August, but he knew he was brave and noble and that’s all that mattered to him. He felt like he could trust him not to leave like Gilen had. “I don’t mind you hovering. You’re much better company.” He closed his eyes for a moment, enjoying the way he played with his hair. “I love you,” he said, opening his eyes again, glad he was getting the chance to say it.
“I hope so. He seems better for her, not that I ever had a chance to meet Gilen. He will protect her, at least,” Isabella smiled. She’d barely met Stella as it was, but she was fairly sure that would change soon. “Then I will set up your room for when you’re allowed to leave, with all of your favorite things, and make sure you rest.” She leaned over him, kissing his forehead before nudging his nose with hers playfully. “I love you. I wish I had told you that before you went off to fight someone...I won’t make that mistake again.” She kissed him softly before sitting up a bit, running her thumb along his cheek soothingly. “Are you tired? You can sleep if you need to. I’ll be here the whole time. If you’re really lucky, I’ll even sing you something,” she teased, though she really would if he wanted her to.

Gabriel chuckled, shaking his head. “I don’t think he is. That would be a little harsh of me to think after he’s saved both Stella’s life and my life.” He owed a lot to August and he wasn’t sure how he would ever repay him. “I think I would trust him implicitly to fight alongside me.” He smiled, glad that Isabella would stay by his side. “I hope they’ll let me go back sooner rather than later. I hate having the nurses hover over me.”
“I would too. He was very set on finding your sister, and wouldn’t let Annalise or I come to any harm. It was very gentlemanly.” And obviously, August cared enough to help Gabriel as well. “As long as you don’t mind me hovering over you when you get out of here. I can always ask what their requirements would be, perhaps telling them that you won’t be alone at all might allow you to get out a day early.” She sighed, her fingers toying with the ends of his hair. “You scared me. I’m really glad you’re alright.”

Gabriel nodded, knowing that he wouldn’t want to leave behind his family and Isabella. “You do matter a lot. And especially since you told me not to be stupid, I feel even more stupid about it.” He should have been thinking about her and his family, and next time he would. “He seems to be aiding our family more than he probably wants to,” Gabriel chuckled, figuring that August wouldn’t want to keep saving the Roses. When she asked what he wanted he shook his head. “I don’t need anything. I’m just glad to have your company.”
“A little,” Isabella corrected him, never having thought herself as any more important than anyone else. “I don’t think you were stupid. You see the good in people, I love that about you. Just maybe next time, take a friend with you. August perhaps, or someone else, if you feel August is far too intertwined with your family’s affairs,” she smiled softly. “I’ll stay then. I’d like to, maybe I could take your mind off of being in the infirmary. Soon they’ll let you go back to your room, and I could take care of you, if you’d like.”
gxbrielrose:
“I mean, I don’t feel like I’m going to die, so I figure that I’m fine.” Gabriel could deal with a bit of pain, so it didn’t bother him much. He smiled when she took his hand. She was definitely nice company. “I kind of expect you to be mad. I didn’t exactly follow when you said.” He sighed. “I went to talk to Stella beforehand and she must have told him to come get me. She didn’t want me fighting Nora either.”
“I am mad! But I’m not at the same time,” Isabella sighed. “It’s not just me you’d be leaving behind. I don’t matter all that much, not compared to what your sisters and Colin would be feeling if you died.” She didn’t shy away from the topic, knowing it wouldn’t solve anything to hide behind it. “Stella tried to stop you? It’s good then that August was there. He seems to appear whenever you and your sisters need him most,” she raised a brow. It was odd, to be sure, or maybe they were just lucky. She squeezed his hand, her thumb running along his calmly. “What can I get you?”

Gabriel nodded, not having wanted to be the one to say it out loud. “Yeah, that’s probably what would have happened.” When she showed him the things she brought him, he couldn’t help smiling. “Thank you. It’s a lot better.” He wasn’t sure for how long he would be in the infirmary, but it was nice to have her think of him. “I’ll be okay. They stitched me up and gave me fluids and I feel fine.” He was still sore and he had been given some pain medication, but he was alive and that’s what mattered.
“You feel fine?” Isabella wasn’t sure if she believed him. He’d been stabbed, it had to be more painful than he was letting on. Pulling a chair up beside his bed, she sat down and settled her head on the bed near his side, her fingers idly playing with his. “You could have died. I want to be so mad at you...but how did August end up saving you?”
gxbrielrose:
“Not exactly. I underestimated her, and that was my fault. I thought she would just use her powers, or I don’t know what I thought.” Gabriel was starting to think he was kind of an idiot, but he didn’t say that. When she asked him how badly she hurt him, his first instinct was to downplay it. He really didn’t want her to worry about him. “I lost a lot of blood. She said she wasn’t trying to kill me, but I think if August hadn’t gotten there in time it might have been really bad.”
Isabella wanted to protest- he’d promise that he would be careful, that he would be smart about fighting her, but Nora was stronger than they thought. It wasn’t his fault. “You would have died,” she said softly, her eyes averting down to her hand in his. “I brought you a blanket from my room, and some books. I thought it would be better than what they have here.” She settled the blanket over him carefully, looking everywhere but his eyes, mostly because she didn’t want to cry. “But the doctor said you’re going to be okay?”

Gabriel smiled up at her, squeezing her hand back gently. He was glad to see her, especially since he had really only seen nurses and a doctor since August had left him. “She stabbed me. I didn’t know she was armed, but I shouldn’t have been so naive.” He sighed, feeling a little defeated. “She got away.”
Isabella bit her lower lip, trying to keep her composure. “Did you think she wouldn’t hurt you because of your history?” She winced and leaned over, pressing a kiss to his forehead. “You tried, Gabriel. That’s all that matters. How badly did she hurt you?” she asked softly, unsure if she wanted to know. Clearly bad enough to land him in the infirmary, but she didn’t want him to downplay it for her. “Just tell me, it’s alright. I need to know how close I was to losing you.”

Gabriel waited for Isabella to get there, hoping that she wouldn’t be too worried about him. He knew she would and there wasn’t much he could do to control that. When she entered into his room he smiled, sitting up a little. “Hey, come here.” He motioned for her to come into the room. “I’m fine, really.” He was still sore and his side hurt, but he could smile through it fine.
Isabella walked in the room slowly, trying not to look worried or upset. “Okay,” she nodded, walking to his bed side and taking his hand. “Gabriel, what happened?” She squeezed his hand, knowing he went after Nora. “What did she do to you?”

Isabella put her phone in her pocket and stopped at her room, grabbing a few things before rushing to the infirmary. She tried to remind herself to slow down, Gabriel had said he was okay, but she couldn’t help wanting to get to him as quickly as possible. They made her wait only a few minute before letting her see him, and stepped into his room cautiously, her voice a low whisper. “Gabriel?”
