Today was a good day. A nice, pretty, fun, and full day.

Something about life is just so complicated yet so simple. 

I'm at my apartment living with two less roommates while they are off on missions. It has given me a lot of breathing and thinking room. And it's been nice. I had time today after work to go to the bank and open up a savings account. 

I talked to my mom for a good 45 minutes and I miss her a lot. It really scares me that my parents are getting older. I don't think I've ever thought about life apart from them. They are and have always been there. Of course that's life, but there is something so scary and unknown about it. They mean so much to me. 

We had an outreach event for the freshmen today after prayer gathering and I got to meet this really cool kid. He is definitely a thinker and an eager yet shy type of introvert that oddly felt really normal and natural to talk to. He was just one of those people that I could carry on a conversation with forever, just talking about life, stories, and our beliefs. It was nice. Andrea and I had a lot of fun discussing a lot of things with him. He told us that we were the coolest girls that he's met at UT so far. I thought that was a pretty nice compliment to receive. 

A lot is going to happen in the next three weeks and I'm not sure if I'm completely prepared for it, but I am going to sleep now so I can wake up for MP and then go to work. 

This was a super random post but I feel like I haven't shared my thoughts with the tumblr world in so long. 

Goodnight world. As my professional communications professor always said, "make good choices!".

Jesus Is A Hipster

Come to think of it, Jesus was a hipster.

Say what? I don’t say this to mean that Jesus necessarily loved coffee, fixed-gear bicycles, and floral button up shirts (which, if I may add, are three very excellent things). But I mean to highlight the simple fact that Jesus embodied the notion of standing out amidst such a uniform society. He didn’t fit the mold that the world was used to. When people went left, He went right. While the majority was standing on the corner of the streets gaining recognition, Jesus was in the background with a few of His not-so-popular friends – healing the sick, loving the broken, and chasing those who had run away. All the while, Jesus was laughed at and mocked, simply because did not and would not conform.

Imagine that. What would it look like to be fully set apart from this world today? Society has done such a convincing job at making us stand in our own little corner, only to publically declare how we made the grade, how we got the degree, and anything else that entails our capabilities and our worth. But these things fade. Uniformity starts to get a little boring. Conformity begins to look mundane. And I’m beginning to think that being the anomaly is like becoming more like Jesus.

Anomaly is defined as, “deviation from the normal or usual order,” and that is just what we are hoping to become. Call us young. Call us crazy. Call us foolish. We agree with all the above. We’re just a bunch of college students who have come to realize that we are made to be set apart and that Jesus is deserving of our entire lives.
