As the deer pants for water, so my soul pants for you, oh God. - Psalm 42:1
What would you do with a million dollars?
The cold, snow and waiting... God, how do I reach out to the lost when you aren't bringing people here? Are you going to use me? My toes are about to fall off, should I just leave?
Selfish and impatient... that's how I felt during the outside church last Saturday. But our God is so much greater. I made Him so small and made this homeless outreach all about myself that day, but dang did I repent afterwards.
After an hour of waiting (impatiently) many people came out to eat some warm pasta we had cooked that morning. One person I had the privilege of talking to was Brian. God used Brian to not only rebuke me hardcore, but to show me deep down how small and wicked my heart truly was. At first, Brian seemed like he didn't really want to talk, he seemed like all he really wanted to do was eat and get out of Liberty Plaza as fast as he could. I approached him with a fellow anomaly member and we began a normal conversation-- asking him the basics. Soon, Brian was very open to us and shared to us that he had actually been through two heart attacks and had even flatlined. Praise God for literally bringing Brian back to life. As we continued on our conversation I asked the question "Brian, what would you do with a million dollars?"
He replied to me, "I would get the best lawyer to get my friend out of jail."
I was completely stunned. As I asked him that question I was thinking about a million things I would be doing with my money, but without hesitation Brian would spend all of it for his best friend. He told us that his friend was in jail for something he hadn't done. As he shared more about his friend and the moments that Brian cherished with his friend Alloy, I could see the heart of Brian. In his teary eyes, I was able to see who Brian really was just through the conversation about his friend Alloy.
Just like in the book of Esther, although God is not mentioned, I could see that God was always silhouetted through Brian's life. He was always watching over him, even providing for him the home he is staying at, and keeping him safe through his heart attacks. God blessed Brian such a soft heart that is filled with compassion and loyalty. Our almighty God is always working for His glory and our good.
As we ended with prayer, my heart broke in repentance. Yes, my heart is small, my heart is wicked, I am selfish, and impatient. But I thank God, that even though that's all I have to offer, He will still use me. God asked me:
I am able, I am willing and I am a compassionate God. Do you trust in me? Will you follow me with faith, hope, and love?
So, I guess my final question of this blog would be... what would you do with a million dollars?
Merry Christmas everyone!

This is what You do
His Grace is an ocean and we're all sinking
Romans 6:19
Vanity but One
All is vanity Those are the words of the author of Ecclesiastes Whether you are White, Black, Asian or you are unsure of your identity This world all seems to be just that... vanity
Purposelessness Creeps in devouring the very minds of the youth Corrupting, you are able to hear words but they are without proof Proof to say you're something more than a drug addicted sexually driven money lover Because there is something more under the well constructed facade you use as a cover
And they tell you seeing is believing And what you see is A second coming of a Boston massacre or another insane psychopathic murderer So you believe you are just that The second coming of another tragedy But you have forgotten there is but one
That all is vanity but one He came to this earth declared as the one true Son And gave eyes not only for seeing but perceiving And gave ears not only for hearing but understanding So that it's not what you see that you believe But to perceive and understand that believing is seeing Believing that He is mercy He is grace He is love He is Savior That truly He is not vanity but the One And His name is Jesus
Word.
Jesus Is A Hipster
Come to think of it, Jesus was a hipster.
//
Say what? I don’t say this to mean that Jesus necessarily loved coffee, fixed-gear bicycles, and floral button up shirts (which, if I may add, are three very excellent things). But I mean to highlight the simple fact that Jesus embodied the notion of standing out amidst such a uniform society. He didn’t fit the mold that the world was used to. When people went left, He went right. While the majority was standing on the corner of the streets gaining recognition, Jesus was in the background with a few of His not-so-popular friends – healing the sick, loving the broken, and chasing those who had run away. All the while, Jesus was laughed at and mocked, simply because did not and would not conform.
//
Imagine that. What would it look like to be fully set apart from this world today? Society has done such a convincing job at making us stand in our own little corner, only to publically declare how we made the grade, how we got the degree, and anything else that entails our capabilities and our worth. But these things fade. Uniformity starts to get a little boring. Conformity begins to look mundane. And I’m beginning to think that being the anomaly is like becoming more like Jesus.
//
Anomaly is defined as, “deviation from the normal or usual order,” and that is just what we are hoping to become. Call us young. Call us crazy. Call us foolish. We agree with all the above. We’re just a bunch of college students who have come to realize that we are made to be set apart and that Jesus is deserving of our entire lives.
//
Come to think of it, I’d love to be a hipster.
