Out of curiosity, what was the recording process like during the dialogue box sections? Everyone was clearly still improvising during them but parts like Sora switching back and forth with the cursor selection and Cid's wonderfully incomprehensible line about having nothing but blocks for ships makes me think there was actual game footage there and everyone could play off the actual dialogue if they wanted to?

so, in every case, this is exactly what the speech bubbles looked like on the nights we recorded. the mod we had to use in order to remove the subtitles from the normal cutscenes (because theres no option to turn them off in the game itself) also had the fun side effect of removing the subtitle font entirely from the game, which made the decision to include as many speech bubble scenes as possible much easier on me cause i knew it would be so fucking fun to just transcribe our own improvised dialogue into the bubbles in post.

since the words were gone but the rest of the UI was unaffected, including the cursor that selects dialogue options, i just made sure to very obviously deliberate between two nonexistent choices while recording the game footage and trust that holly would make the choice that works best from there. i dont think we talked about it at all before recording, she just fucking went for it and nailed it, surprising no one.
