After a long day, Lance loved nothing more than to curl up next to his boyfriend in bed and just relax. Neither of them had bothered to change out of their clothes after the mission, opting instead to collapse onto each other the instant the door shut behind them. So Lance lay, his nose pressed against Keithâs neck as Keithâs hair, still slightly damp with sweat, tickled his skin.
âYou smell.â Lance said, breaking the silence of their private moment.
Keith scoffed at that. âOf course I smell. You smell too, you donât hear me complaining.â
Lance squeezed Keithâs shoulder affectionately. âI didnât mean it as a bad thing. Just, like, a fact. You smell. You have a smell.â
âThen why bring it up?â
âI dunno. I mean nothing really a smell in space. Itâs all just⌠nothing. So even when you smell like old socks, itâs kind of nice. Itâs you.â
Keith removed his hand from where he had been absent-mindedly stroking Lanceâs hair to instead cup his cheek, and every-so-gently lift his face up to look him right in the eye. The smile on Keithâs lips made Lanceâs heart skip a beat. A moment later Keith and shifted their position, rolling over to pin Lance underneath him with his armpit pushed right in Lanceâs face.
âUncle! Uncle!â Lance yielded, trying and failing to push Keith off of him.
âI thought you liked my stink!â Keith laughed, not willing to release Lance from his prison.
âYouâre horrible! Iâm breaking up with you!â Came Lanceâs cries in response. Keith did concede moments later, allowing his sputtering boyfriend a reprieve. Lance only glared at Keith before shoving him back onto the mattress and resuming his position as the little spoon.
âYouâre still the worst.â Lance mumbled, though there was no bite to the remark.
Keith merely chuckled. âI love you, Lance.â
There was a beat, and then, âI love you, too.â
"You said you could dance." Lance said, a hint of smirk gracing his lips. "Never took you for a liar."
"No." Keith could feel his face heating up with embarrassment and he tried to cover it with an air of annoyance. "What I actually said was that we all took the same dance classes at the Garrison. That's true. I never said the lessons stuck."
A Klance gala fic, because thereâs no such thing as too many gala fics
Wordcount: 1919
It was far from the first time that the Paladins of Voltron were invited to a gala to celebrate after they freed a planet from Galra rule, but it was the first time that Keith had been unable to get out of it. The Uzil had already gifted them outfits and the plans were set faster than Keith could avoid. Â
Social gatherings weren't the sort of thing Keith would ever choose to go to. There were too many strangers and eyes starring like they expected something from him but he didnât know what. People would pair off and whisper and even in crowded rooms he always wound up feeling alone. Â
At least the food was good and hiding out wasn't difficult. Keith managed to snag a tray of something that looked like shrimp but tasted like corndogs and was on his second glass of something he was beginning to suspect was alcoholic. He took his food and found himself a quiet place to ride out the party near the edge of town.
The sun was going to be setting soon, and one of planet's three moons had already risen high into the sky, with the second just barely visible over the horizon. Night wouldn't be the end to the festivities, Keith knew. Once the sun set the silk lanterns generously strung throughout the village would keep light over them until morning. Even with his distance from the town square Keith could hear the light-hearted beat of songs and instruments he didn't recognize. He took a long drink from his cup and the party felt further away.
There weren't many Uzil this far from the heart of the party, which Keith was grateful for. He'd endured hours of diplomacy and small talk so he deserved to enjoy the festival on his own terms. A human figure walking his way told Keith that it wouldn't be so easy. Â
Keith considered hiding between the houses but decided against the effort. He popped another shrimp/corndog into his mouth and watched as the figure grew closer. He was a bit surprised to see that it was Lance and not Shiro. The blue tunic he was given to wear by the Uzil shone and shimmered in the sunset as if it was glowing itself and Keith found himself thinking not for the first time that Lance really was beautiful.
"Hey Keith!â Lance shouted and waved as he jogged the remaining distance between them. âIs this where youâve been the whole time?â Keith just shrugged.
âWe were all wondering where you went. Pidge thought you were dead. She already called dibs on your knife." Lance instantly dove into conversation. That didnât surprise Keith, he actually enjoyed the way his voice filled the silence. Listening was easier than talking. Lance continued to chatter about Keithâs group-mandated will while Keith focused on the way his eyes lit up and his hands waved enthusiastically as he spoke. These were all things heâd noticed before, and tried not to notice. It was harder now, Keith realized as he took another drink from his cup. Definitely alcoholic.
âYou know, Shiro was asking where you went.â Lance said after his story wound down and Keith had yet to say anything.
"Of course he did." Keith sighed. âWhere is he?â
âOh, Allura sent him back to the ship. He drank like, six glasses of that alien wine and started seducing the prince.â Lance grinned widely, barely holding back his laughter. âHe must have been five minutes away from getting into that royal bed before Allura stepped in!â
âI doubt it would have worked out.â Keith said. âI mean honestly, what are the odds that humans and Uzil have compatible genitalia.â Â
Lanceâs eyes went wide like saucers and for a second Keith regretted opening his mouth, then Lance burst out laughing. âYou canât just say that!â He cried. ââCompatible genitaliaâ holy crow, Keith, youâre a funny guy.â
Keith brought his drink to his lips to hide his smile. Â
âWhat are you doing all the way out here? You should be partying with the rest of us.â Lance said after a moment of silence passed between them.
âIâm here. Isnât that enough?â
âNo.â Lance shook his head and reached out to tug on Keithâs arm. âYou need to dance with someone.â
"I don't dance."
"Don't or can't?" Lance leaned forward, his eyes glinting with something that Keith couldn't quite place. Â
"Why does that even matter?"
"Hmm, uh huh. Spoken like a man who can't dance." Lance shook his head and exaggerated a sigh. "Looks like the master is going to have to teach you!" He snagged the now empty plate from Keith as well his cup and placed them on the ground out of the way.
Keith scoffed. "And what exactly makes you the master? The Garrison made everyone take dance lessons freshman year. You don't know anymore than anyone else." Â
Lance waved him off. "If my words can't convince you then I'll just have to prove it with my body." He added a flirty wink and shimmied his shoulders dramatically. Â
As much as Keith didn't want to encourage him, he couldn't help but laugh. Lance grinned triumphantly and took Keith's hands in his. Â
"Come on, dance with me." Â
Keith looked into Lance's eyes, searching for something to indicate this was all a joke at his expense, something he could be mad at but found nothing. The confidence in Lanceâs expression faded quickly, to be replaced by anxiety as his eyes darted between Keithâs face and their hands. Keith shifted their hands to hold onto Lance tightly before either of them could slip away from embarrassment. Â
âFine. Letâs dance.â Keith said, and Lanceâs face melted into joy once more. Â
âHunk has been teaching the Uzil how to waltz,â Lance started to say, moving his hands to lead Keith into the dance, âWanna do that? I can help you if you donât remember all the steps.â
Keith nodded dumbly and stared down at their feet, then back at Lance, unsure of where to put his hands. He tried desperately to remember the class they took a lifetime ago but his mind was foggy, both from the drink and from Lance. Lance had one hand on his waist and the other was still gripping Keithâs hand. He decided to mirror Lance and put his free hand on his waist. Lance raised an eyebrow at that but didnât say anything. He took the first step without warning and Keith quickly stepped back to match. Keith stared at their feet trying to find out where Lance was going to move so he wouldnât step on his feet. He wouldnât have realized how obvious he was being if Lance hadnât started laughing. Â
âWhatâs so funny?â Keith asked through his teeth. He doesnât dance, he told Lance that, so why should he surprised that heâs so bad at it?
"You said you could dance." Lance said, a hint of smirk gracing his lips. "Never took you for a liar."
"No." Keith could feel his face heating up with embarrassment and he tried to cover it with an air of annoyance. "What I actually said was that we all took the same dance classes at the Garrison. That's true. I never said the lessons stuck."
"You implied it then." Â
"Maybe I did, but I never said it."
Lanceâs perfect blue eyes looked over him for a long moment, as if he were carefully measuring Keithâs words, before he laughed out loud. âAlright, you got me there, weirdo. Let me teach you then.â He didnât wait for Keith to respond. He took hold of Keithâs hand and moved it from his waist to his shoulder. âWe canât both lead, you know.â He said with smile. âNow follow me, and donât stare at your feet. It wonât help, I promise.â
It was weird dancing with Lance. That was the only way Keith could think to describe it. It was weird to feel his hand on his waist and look into his eyes. This wasnât something that Keith thought about actually happening. He definitely thought about being close to Lance, holding him, being held, kissing him, but he never could have thought that Lance would do this. It was weird. Â
Lance pulled him along gently and Keith found that the steps to the dance were easy. He hardly even noticed that time had passed until they stopped, and then it felt like nothing at all and Keith wanted it to continue. Lanceâs hands hadnât moved, and Keith had no intention of moving his. He leaned in just a bit, lips pursed into a thin line as he scrutinized Lanceâs expression like a puzzle he was so close to figuring out.
âWhat are you doing?â Lance breathed.
âHavenât decided yet.â Keith replied.
Lance didnât look away, and neither did Keith. Both held their breath as if the slightest disturbance might ruin whatever it was that was happening. Â
Lance let go first.
Lance let go of Keithâs hand, first loosening his grip and waiting a beat for Keith to follow suit before moving to press it against Keithâs cheek.
âWhat are you doing?â Keith said softly, a teasing tone to his voice.
âWell I,â Lance began then stopped, huffing and looking away. âI donât know! I still donât know what youâre doing.â Â
âI am two cups into that weird alien wine and youâre the one who insisted on dancing.â Keith said. âIf anyone should have an answer itâs you.â Â
Lance didnât say anything at first. The moment lingered on and felt heavy on Keithâs skin, heavier than Lanceâs hand on his cheek, anxiety squirming and bubbling in his veins urging him to just run away before anything could happen to jeopardize the precarious stalemate that was their relationship. But the way that Lance looked at him, blue eyes wide and curious and seeing only him, that made it impossible to move away. Â He was transfixed by the way the light of the moons and the setting sun illuminated every inch of Lanceâs skin. Keith could count every freckle if he wanted to, and oh how he did want to. He could see a faint scar on his jawline, and another an inch below his eye. He could see the way Lanceâs hair had started to darken at the roots without the constant exposure to the dessert sun. For all the things that Keith could see, he couldn't see what Lance was thinking.
âYâknow, if this were a movie, this is the part where weâd kiss.â
The words hung in the air, somehow even heavier than the silence they had just endured.
âDo you want me to?â Â
The words fell out so quickly that Keith almost wasn't sure if he had said it until he saw Lance nod. It was barely more than a twitch of the chin and Keith was on him, pushing their lips together quickly and awkwardly. Lance used his hand on his cheek to guide him into a better angle and all Keith could think about was the way Lanceâs lips somehow tasted like sea salt. Â
When they finally pulled apart Keith breathed softly, âSo what happens next? Yâknow, in all the movies.â
âI think,â Lance grinned, sweet and genuine and beautiful, âWe should kiss again. And dance, definitely dance and kiss some more.â
âSounds good to me.â Keith smiled, he couldnât help himself, Lanceâs smile was so infectious and it was all for him. So maybe, just maybe, these dances werenât such a bad thing all the time.
a/n: ok so honestly I abandoned this au as a full story bc I rewatched the ep and was annoyed at how dumb they made lance and didn't finish it but also bc I couldn't really work out the plot and make it my own so it's more just a straw plot for shameless shenanigans and isn't that what klance is all about
pidge and hunk find some high-tech VR goggles at the space mall and tweak them to work with monsters and mana to give them a VR roleplay experience
probably shouldn't go messing with alien tech esp when this is the plot of too many movies they get stuck in the game ok
they're stuck and they're stuck in their characters personality with no memory of the outside world
coran and allura get to keith go in after them and make sure they finish the game so they can get out (original, I know)
lance made pike shamelessly bi as an excuse to explore his own budding bisexuality and fondness for long black hair and violet eyes
I'd also like to state that in my au lance is a competent assassin because fuck dreamworks
pike is immediately into keith's character and does not hold back on flirting
keith is torn on how to respond because on one hand he really does want to be with lance but this is kind of an Awkward situation
keith is a weak man there are definitely sloppy makeouts in the supply pile
okay so hereâs another au that I have a lot of ideas for
angel!Keith and demon!Lance
Keith is an up and coming angel and for his first big job he is tasked with eradicating a powerful sorcerer from a small town in arizona
Lance is a young demon and when he catches wind that thereâs an angel in his town here to eradicate evil he is psyched because goddamn he has been waiting for a chance to prove himself and what better chance than fighting an angel who came for him
but hereâs the thing, Lance isnât the power that Keith came here for. in fact he didnât even know there was a demon in the area and chalks it up to Lance not being enough of a threat to warrant divine intervention
and he says as much to Lance
Lance is HIGHLY offended
Keith couldnât care less heâs here for a job and heâs going to do it and will not be goaded into straying from his path
Lance wants Keithâs attention so bad ok he really wants to prove that heâs powerful and definitely a threat and shouldnât be treated like heâs no more dangerous than a high schooler with a ouija board
Lance decides that if Keith isnât going to take him seriously as a threat then heâs just going to prove heâs smarter than Keith by tracking down this sorcerer himself
a short rundown on divinity in this au
both sides strive for the Divine Balance, which is just what it sounds like, a balance of good and evil in the world
if mortals are 0 on the divinity scale then angelic powers are positive numbers on the scale and demonic powers are negative, both powers are still referred to as being Divine
low level angel/demons often don't fully understand the Divine Balance, and will sometimes fight for short-term goals of their side not realizing the Divine Balance is not only the end-goal but the only sustainable outcome
as far as powers go I kinda think of Aziraphale and Crowly from Good Omens
not complete without "Lord heal this bike!"
sorcerers are a threat to both sides as they do not care for Divinity and throw the balance into chaos
The sorcerer (honestly never put too much thought into who that should be but honerva is an easy choice) was wating for an angel to show up to steal their divinity and increase her power. Lance getting caught as well was a lucky bonus.Â
Lance teams up with Hunk, son of a local pastor with a gift for communicating with spirits and tries to track down the elusive sorcerer before Keith
Keith first finds Pidge dabbling with magic but rules them out as a threat to the divine balance, and instead enlists Pidge to help track down the sorcerer whoâs been threatening their town
over the first few days in town Keith starts to notice his powers waning and he can't understand why. Lance notices the same.
with their divine powers on the fritz they're forced to work together. after all, they reason that the fritz must be caused by the sorcerer
Lance and Keith start become more human as they lose their Divinity and start to develop feelings for each other that never could have blossomed before
they don't understand their newfound emotions but they know they feel happy together, and they feel complete together. light and dark finding a human medianÂ
alright well that's about all that I had thought out for this au I hope someone out there enjoys it!
lance is a medical intern moonlighting at a free clinic for some extra cash
keith is an undercover cop working with the local gang (the galra, obvs lmao)
lance is always cheery when he's working even though he's going off of 2 hours of sleep and 10 cups of coffee but he's TERRIBLE at remembering his patients. it's like he lacks object permanence he remembers everything you've told him as long as you're still in the room with him, but once you're gone he's probably forgotten your name. (some days he's so tired he forgets his own name)
shiro is keith's contact with the police
pidge was keith's best CI and now she helps him when he gets in too deep
sometimes keith needs to sneak into pidge's place. he usually uses the fire escape and climbs in through the window.Â
lance lives with his veterinarian roommate hunk live together in the apartment underneath pidge
one day keith gets shot in the bicep during a drug deal gone bad and he doesn't like to go to hospitals because then it would get called in to the police and he doesn't want to deal with that right now. he climbs the fire-escape outside pidge's apartment to get her help
remember how I said lance lives in the apartment below pidge?
keith breaks into the wrong apartment
lance comes home from work late at night and finds keith somewhat conscious and bleeding all over his living room
lance is freaking out because hello? intruder! but also holy shit injury?? he obvs needs to help out so he grabs one of hunk's medical kits (he always has one laying around in case of vet emergencies) and patches keith up
keith leaves before lance wakes up the next morning, but he leaves a note thanking lance for his help
keith plans on never seeing lance again after that encounter but it doesn't quite work that way :)
Iâm not finished with it yet buuut Iâm still enjoying this short story so if you like the first page let me know so I get pressured to finish it lol
AU: Modern setting
despite the title, itâs not smut (title started as a joke but then it stuck lmao)
Lance was running as fast as he could from the group of bikers chasing after him. His feet pounded the pavement beneath him and he was suddenly glad for the years of gymnastics he took when he was younger because it made jumping over motorcycles and fences so much easier. He stole a glance backwards to see how much space heâd won between himself and his pursuers. The one who he had particularly pissed off was still in front, trying to climb the fence that Lance was able to get over in a matter of seconds. While Lance was reveling in this good fate, he ran straight into someone.Â
âWhat the hell?â The boy asked, currently underneath Lance in a tangle on the ground.Â
âShit shit shit,â Lance said quickly, jumping to his feet and helping the boy up. âIâm so sorry Iâm,â He looked behind him and the biker had made it over the fence. âI really need to go.â He made to start running again but the stranger heâd all but mauled grabbed him by the arm and pulled him back.Â
âI think Iâm owed some sort of explanation.â He said.  Â
âAnd I would love to give it to you some other time but,â Lance tried to pull away from the man in front of him, who only tightened his grip on his arm. âIâm really, really in a rush to get away from some people so if you donât mind,âÂ
The stranger looked at the man who was advancing on them now, who was grinning widely at the sight of Lance being held up and unable to run away. He looked at Lance, who was about half the size of the man coming over to them and sighed. âStay here.â He said, letting go of Lanceâs arm. Lance took a few steps away, ready to ignore the order, but stopped when he saw the stranger advance on the one chasing him.  Â
âThatâs very nice and all, but youâre no bigger than me so I donât think,â Lance stopped talking when the stranger shifted his weight back and launched a kick directly into the center of the manâs chest, sending him stumbling backwards onto the cement.Â
âYou little fuck.â The man hissed, picking himself up off the ground despite the ache that he must have felt in his chest. His eyes burned with fury and Lance knew it would take a lot more than a kick to stop him. âMeyer!â He called out to one his friends who just arrived on her bike. âGet over there!â Â
âThatâs not good.â The stranger said as the one called Meyer and a few people on motorcycles as well as the ones who had been following on foot prepared to join the fray.Â
Lance had started looking around for places to run to but the stranger had grabbed his arm yet again. âGet on.â He ordered, pulling Lance behind him and onto his motorcycle. Lance decided it was best not to argue since this was probably his best shot at not dying tonight. He jumped on the back of the bike and held onto the stranger tight as he shot off down the road. Â
what the fuck man where was the keith interacting with literally anybody this season whatever hereâs some post season 5 klance fluff. also includes a little bit of lanceâs frienship with allura bc them being bffs is important

It had been a stressful day, to say the least. After Allura and Lotor flew into the white hole and their oxygen supply slowly dwindled until those remaining in the castle thought they would die. There are worse ways to go. Lance remembered hearing once on a sci-fi show that oxygen deprivation was a peaceful way to die and he did wonder if that was going to be true. He didnât know if Allura would be back in time to save them.
Allura succeeded. Lance knew she would, that was never in question. He was just thankful that she did it in time for them. Lotor failed. Lance wanted to laugh at him, but he held his tongue. He wasnât going to sully the mood for Allura by being rude to Lotor. Keith arrived not too long after they wormholed to empty space to hold up for a while.
Lance wanted to be waiting for Keith, he really did. But he wasnât. He went to his room to relax, take a long hot shower and just listen to his music while sitting on his bed. He didnât even notice Keith knocking on his door, and his eyes were closed as he tried to drift into some level of comfort so he didnât see Keith come into his room.
When Keith lifted one of the sides of his headphones off his ear Lance fell over and scrambled to a fighting position. Or at least, he tried to without success. All the while Keith couldnât help but start laughing as Lance flailed about.
âHey! What gives man? You scared the quiznak outta me.â Lance huffed.
âI wanted to talk to you.â Keith said.
âNo duh I figured that much out on my own, thanks. Havenât you ever heard of knocking?â
âYeah, and I heard it when I did it. You had headphones on!â Keith crossed his arms and looked off the side. âSorry. I didnât mean to disturb you I â I just wanted to talk. But Iâll go.â
âWait!â Lance jumped to his feet and grabbed Keithâs arm before he could leave. âI didnât mean it like that.â He sat down and patted the spot on the bed next to him for Keith to follow. âIâve just had a lot on my mind. What did you want to talk about?â
âI met my mom. I havenât told anyone else about it yet.â
The words hung in the air for a moment while Lance processed the gravity of what Keith told him.
âThatâs amazing!â Lance said, throwing his arms around Keith. âTell me everything!â
Keith chuckled and shifted a bit closer to Lance. âSheâs great. Sheâs strong and courageous. Her name is Krolia and sheâs half-Galra.â He pressed his face against Lanceâs shoulder to hide tears beginning to form behind his eyelids. âShe told me sheâd never leave me again. She told me she loves me.â
âOf course she loves you, Keith. Who wouldnât?â Lance said softly. This was getting dangerously close. Lance realized he had feelings for Keith after he left for the Blade. Allura helped him out when he was confused about his feelings, and he felt confident that he could be honest about his feelings but this was a lot happening right now. Keith was never this physically intimate or emotionally vulnerable. All Lance wanted to do was kiss him and tell him to come back, but how could he do that? The Blade of Marmora is where his mom was, his family. Lance couldnât ask Keith to abandon his family no matter how badly he missed him, or how badly Voltron needed him.
âKrolia thinks we should leave the Blade.â
Keithâs words cut through Lanceâs thoughts.
âYou should.â He said without thinking.
âOh.â Keith pulled back a bit from Lance. âI uh, I guess I didnât think youâd agree so quickly. There is still a lot of good I can do for the Blade.â
âBut what good are they doing for you, Keith? Whenâs the last time youâve had time to just be happy?â
Keith laughed, but it wasnât happy, something closer to somber. âKrolia said the same thing.â
âCome back to Voltron, Keith. We need you.â What Lance didnât say was âI need you.â
âSo you really think so? What will Shiro say?â
Lance pulled his arms back and laid them in his lap. âThatâs actually⌠Keith we need to talk about Shiro. Thereâs something wrong with him. Iâm not sure,â He trailed off. Lance didnât know how to tell Keith that he thought his adoptive brother was replaced by a fake. âBut I know we can handle it if youâre here.â
 âThen Iâll stay.â
Lance smiled. âGood.â He leaned in close to Keith, then immediately pulled back and looked away, embarrassed.
âWhat was that?â Keith asked him, leaning in just a tad.
 âNothing!â
 âLance.â
âOkay okay, jeez. It was just â my mom always used to kiss me on the cheek when we had a heart to heart, and I did the same for my nieces and nephews, and for a second I kind of forgot who I was talking to and I was going toâŚâ
âYou were going to kiss my cheek?â Keith grinned.
Lance was blushing furiously at this point. âIf you make fun of me Iâm going to paint dicks all over your armor!â
âI wasnât going to make fun of you. But I do want that kiss. I feel like Iâm owed it now.â Keith turned away and pointed to his cheek.
âAre you going to let this go if I donât?â
 âNot a chance.â
Lance sighed. âYouâre terrible, mullet. Fine.â He leaned over and closed his eyes to press a quick kiss against Keithâs cheek, but he didnât get the chance. Keith cupped his cheek and turned back to capture Lanceâs lips with his.
Lance pulled back immediately, eyes wide like a deer caught in the headlights.
âI â I thought,â Keith stammered. âIâm so sorry Lance. Iâll go.â Keith scrambled to his feet so he could escape out the door.
Lance jumped to his feet and grabbed Keithâs arm to stop him for the second time.
âQuiznak, Keith! At least give me a second to process that before you bolt!â
âBut you obviously didnât want it! It was a mistake and I shouldnât have â â
Lance decided the best way to shut him up was to kiss him again, so he did. After he pulled back Keith frantically took Lanceâs face in his hands and pulled him in for another kiss. The kiss wasnât particularly good, neither of them knew what they were doing, but they savored the taste of the otherâs lips nonetheless. When they finally pulled apart, their faces were flushed and their breathes shallow.
 âI thought â â
âYou thought wrong, Keith.â Lance smiled. âI like you. I like you a lot. And I want you to stay. With Voltron, I mean, not in my room I think itâs a bit soon for that.â
âIâll stay. And I promise you what my mom promised me. Iâll never leave you again.â Keith said.
âThen letâs kiss on that.â Lance said, pressing their lips together once more. âNow itâs sealed. Donât even think of breaking your promise, mullet.â
Christmas for Keith was pretty crappy from 10 until he was 18 and moved in with his adoptive brother Shiro. Even then the five years after that werenât anything special for him. That was a lot of time to make up for, but Lance had an idea.
fic under the cut or on ao3
Christmas morning was always Lanceâs favorite time of the entire year. His entire extended family would crowd into one house to exchange gifts and eat breakfast and drink mimosas and their celebrations only got shut down by the police once. That was a fun year.
Lance and Keith have been dating for a few months now and one thing that Lance has learned is that Christmas has never been a particularly cheerful time for Keith. After losing his parents at a young age and bouncing around in foster care he was left with little to celebrate this time of year. Lance knew that he had to change that. From what heâd gathered about Keithâs past, the years of crappy Christmas were between when Keith was 10 until he was 18 and moved in with his adoptive brother Shiro. Even then the five years after that werenât anything special for him. That was a lot of time to make up for, but Lance had an idea.
âKeith. Keith!â Lance jostled his boyfriend in bed. Keith was a light sleeper but unless he has a reason to be up heâd fall right back to sleep.
âMerry Christmas.â Keith mumbled, rolling over and taking Lance with him as he did so that Lance was now stuck under him.
âKeith! Get up!â Lance pushed at him until Keith begrudgingly sat up. âItâs Christmas! I got you gifts so come on and get up.â Lance was bouncing up and down, unable to contain his excitement.
âAlright, jeez. Iâll get up.â Keith groaned but got out of bed nonetheless. Both pulled fresh clothes out of Keithâs closet. Lance certainly stayed the night often enough to warrant having more of his own clothes at Keithâs place but he preferred to wear Keithâs clothes when he could.
Lance all but dragged Keith into the living room where the Christmas tree that they had put up together was now surrounding by dozens of gifts sorted into piles.
âLance. What is this?â Keith asked.
âItâs Christmas!â Lance said, pressing a kiss against Keithâs cheek before grabbing a present from one of the piles. âNo questions allowed, no open this.â
Keith eyed Lance curiously before he opened the present. Inside the wrapping paper was a coffee pot much like the one at Lanceâs apartment.
âLance, I donât even drink coffee that often.â
âYeah, but I do. Now I can have coffee here. Now open something else.â Lance pushed Keith towards the pile he had taken from. Keith opened a few more, and they reminded him of house warming gifts. A nice toaster oven, a coffee grinder and some coffee beans for the press Lance bought him, towels, things that Lance would have a lot more use for than Keith would. Lance didnât give Keith a chance to question these gifts, simply insisting that they were necessary for Lance when he stayed over.
âWhat the hell is in all of these now?â Keith asked him, gesturing to the dozens of boxes left wrapped.
âIâm pretty sure you have to open them if you want to find out.â Lance told him.
Keith sighed and pulled Lance close for a soft kiss against his lips. âLance, you didnât have to buy me this many things. Christmas with you is enough.â
âBut I want you to love Christmas like I do!â Lance said. âCome on, just open them. I promise Iâll have you crying by the end of this.â
Keith didnât really believe him, but he opened the next present anyways. After ripping off the wrapping paper he was left with a box for the latest xbox. He wanted to tell his boyfriend they already owned the latest playstation, and that this gift was kind of unnecessary and completely expensive, but Lance wouldnât let him. He pushed another box into his hands and had him open it. Video games, board games, a skateboard, even gifts clearly meant for teenage girls. The target age of the gifts went down with each pile until Keith was opening legos and doll houses and RC cars. The last thing left was an envelope, and inside a copy of an email from the youth director of the local shelter. The email included a list of gifts requested by the kids, each item one of the ones that Lance had given him.
 âLance, I donât understand.â
âOkay okay okay, first off this was all from everyone, Shiro and Allura both gave me a couple hundred dollars after I told them my idea and Hunk and Pidge pitched in too!â Lance scooted close to where Keith was sitting, surrounded by trash from opening so many presents. âI know you never really got to enjoy Christmas growing up, and I wanted to fix that. But I mean, how do you fix Christmas, right? Thatâs kind of a tall order. I thought, maybe, I could help you make Christmas great for other kids. I got you some stuff for us, for your place, but these are all for the kids going through what you went through. I canât go back in time and make it so you had great Christmasâs but I thought we could go to the shelter together and make Christmas great for some other kids.â
There was no time to react before Keith was on Lance, kissing him hard and passionately, their lips pressed together as Keith licked his way into Lanceâs mouth. Lance ran his fingers through Keithâs hair, pulling him closer and closer as Keithâs hands made their way to his hips, wrapping around him and holding him tight as if he were afraid heâd lose the moment, lose Lance.
âThis canât be real.â Keith said as he finally pulled away from Lance.
Lance leaned back in to kiss him again. âItâs real, Keith. I love you. I love you more than anything and Iâd do anything to make you happy.â
 âClearly.â Keith chuckled.
âWe can head over to the shelter whenever you want to, babe.â
âI think right now, I just want to keep holding you.â
Lance grinned and wrapped his arms around Keith. âI love you, Keith.â He whispered into his ear. âI love you so much.â
âYour stupid plan worked, Lance. Merry Christmas.â Keith said. âIâd like it if we did this every year.â Next year, every year, either way of saying it implied the same. Of course he still wanted to be Lance after that, after this, after next Christmas and the Christmas after that too. âMerry Christmas, Lance.â
another drabble for my 31 days of christmas projcet!

Keith and Lance were on a reconnaissance mission on an icy planet when the weather suddenly turned. Wind blew snow and ice almost horizontally and had the two running for cover as their lions were too far away.
âSo this is how we die, huh?â Lance said, sitting against the wall of a cave they were able to find.
âWeâre not going to die, Lance.â Keith told him.
âYeah I know, just let me be dramatic for five minutes!â
 âYouâre always dramatic!â
âYeah but you love that about me.â Lance grinned.
Keith rolled his eyes and sat down next to Lance, leaning his body against his boyfriend for warmth. Lance immediately wrapped both his arms around him and buried his face in Keithâs neck.
âI love everything about you, Lance.â Keith said softly into his ear.
âI couldnât hear you, Iâm gonna need you to say that again.â
 âYouâre an immature cargo pilot.
âHey!â Lanceâs head shot up. âRude.â He stuck out his tongue and turned away pouting.
Keith reached up and put his hand on Lanceâs cheek, turning him back so he could kiss him. âI said I love you, idiot. Do you need to hear it again?â
 âIt wouldnât hurt.â
âThen I love you. I love you, love you,â Keith started to say over and over again before Lance stopped him by pulling him back close for another kiss.

After being in space for so long, days and dates ceased to have meaning. Keith couldnât even guess as to the month. This was not the case for Lance.
Lance burst into Keithâs bedroom early. Neither had any numerical value to attribute to earliness but it was at least an hour before hunk would start making breakfast so it was definitely very early.
âWhat do you want, Lance?â Keith demanded, voice still groggy with sleep.
âItâs Christmas.â Lance said, smiling like an idiot and barely containing his energy.
âSo what?â Keith rolled over and pulled his blanket over his head.
âWhat do you mean âso whatâ?â Lance huffed. He walked towards the bed and yanked the blanket away from Keith. âChristmas is the best holiday of the year. Thereâs food and family and presents!â
âNone of which are up in space with us.â Keith said, tugging his blanket back from Lance.
âHunk can make something delicious, weâre all basically family, and Iâm always prepared for holiday gift giving donât ever underestimate me again.â Lance tugged the blanket once more and pulled it off the bed entirely, then tossed a sweater on Keithâs face.
âWhat the hell is this?â Keith asked, clearly annoyed. He sat up and shifted so his legs were hanging off the side of the bed and held up the gift to get a better look at it. âA sweater? Where did you find a sweater?â
âI made it! I found some yarn and knitting needles in the castle. I guess knitting is universal, huh? I bet there are mutli species knitting circles in space.â
âOh.â Keith said simply. He didnât pay much attention to everything Lance was saying after admitting that he made the sweater himself. Keith hadnât received a gift in years, and to receive something now, something handmade no less, was a lot to process.
âDo you like it?â Lanceâs words brought Keith out of his daze.
 âYeah. Itâs nice.â
Lance crossed his arms and shifted his weight. âIf you donât like it, you can just say it.â
âBut I do like it!â Keith insisted. âI just wasnât expecting it. I never had,â He stopped himself. âI donât have anything for you, you know.â
âI wasnât expecting anything, donât worry bro.â Lance said. âBut Iâll make sure youâre prepared next year. Iâll have you celebrating Christmas with our family here like a pro.â
âCelebrating with my family. I like that.â Keith smiled softly. âThank you, Lance.â He stood up and pulled the sweater on.
âYou donât have to put it on now.â
 âI want to.â
The two stared at each other for a moment. Lance opened his mouth to say something, but was cut short when Keith stepped close and pressed a kiss to his cheek.
 âMerry Christmas, Lance.â
Lanceâs cheeks heated up red and he quickly rubbed his hand against the spot where Keith had just kissed him.
âI liked that gift. I hope I get another soon.â Lance said once he collected thoughts, slipping seamlessly back into his flirty persona.
âNext year, if I feel like it.â Keith said, grinning.
âWhat if I find us some mistletoe?â
âIf you find mistletoe, I will kiss you. But thereâs no way youâre finding that in space.â
âHavenât you learned your lesson about underestimating my Christmas spirit? Iâll get so much mistletoe and decorate the whole castle, just watch.â With that, Lance ran out of the room, intent on his mission.
Keith couldnât help but chuckle. Even if Lance canât find any mistletoe, Keith knew heâd end up kissing him later anyways.
Hello everyone! In an effort to get back into writing, Iâve decided to write drabbles every day this december based on holiday prompts. if you have any holiday or just general winter themed prompts, send them my way!
this fic is based on this prompt
you were walking in front of me when you tripped over your own foot and knocked over the christmas tree in the park. let me help you up and weâll try to fix the damage au
wordcount: 1038
Keith was walking down the street listening to his music through headphones, eyes lazily surveying the scenery around him. It was getting late and all the shops on the street were already closed. There was a large Christmas tree set up not much farther down the path. It was simply decorated with white garland and silver and gold ornaments. The only other person walking was a boy who looked to be about Keithâs age. He looked like a student, he had on a backpack and was texting on his phone, not paying any attention to his surroundings whatsoever. That became abundantly clear when the boy tripped over a crack in the sidewalk. He flailed his arms trying to find anything to grab on to, which happened to the Christmas tree. Both the tree and the boy went crashing to the ground together.
Keith considered just walking away, before realizing what a dick move that would be. He paused his music and took his headphones as he took a few steps to catch up to the boy and offered out a hand to help him up.Â
The boy eagerly took the offered hand and pulled himself up to his feet.
âThank you, man.â He said, running his hands down his legs and brushing off dirt from his jeans. âThat was seriously embarrassing, I swear Iâm usually more graceful. Nameâs Lance, by the way.â He finished with a wink.
Keith tried not to smile and looked away. âOh Iâm sure. Now what are you going to do about that big mess?â He gestured to the fallen tree behind Lance.
Lance turned around and groaned. âOh no, oh man Iâm in trouble here, arenât I?â
âYouâll be fine.â Keith said. âJust fix it up a bit and no one will notice.â
âWanna help a bro out?â Lance asked him.
 âNot really.â
Lance pouted. âOh come on! Donât be a dick. Look, Iâll buy you pizza if you help me. Thereâs no way I can even lift that tree on my own.â
The promise of pizza was enough to sway Keith. âOkay fine, Iâll help. But Iâm holding you to that pizza. Promises are being made and they will be kept.â
âI canât believe you donât trust me. You think Iâd lie to you, stranger? On Christmas, no less?â
âItâs December first.â Keith said. âAnd itâs Keith.â
âOn this, the holiest of days,â
 âItâs December first!â
 âYouâve shamed me deeply.â
âHow about you stop talking and we pick up this tree?â Keith said to end Lanceâs embarrassing speech. He had to admit it was funny. And cute. Maybe just a bit cute. He had to admit it to himself, not to Lance. Lance seemed like the needed any encouragement.
Working together, the two easily lifted the tree up and set it upright in the stand. The tinsel was easy enough to put right, but more than a few of the ornaments shattered in the fall. Keith started hanging the broken ones anyways, trying to place them in a such a way to hide the missing pieces. He turned over and looked at Lance, who had pulled a marker out of his bag and was now writing on an ornament.
 âWhat are you doing?â
Lance looked up. âJust writing a note.â He held out the ornament for Keith to see the writing.
             sorry we broke your tree
           â       keith and lance
âWhy are you signing it? Why did you add my name?â Keith demanded.
âSo that they know weâre sorry!â
âI didnât even break it, you did!â
âYeah but Iâm cute, so I shouldnât have to take all the blame, right?â Lance grinned like a goof and winked. The combination of goofy and flirty was an odd one that somehow worked for Lance.
Keith grabbed the ornament and put it on a branch.
âSo you think Iâm cute?â Lance asked.
Keith ignored him, pretending he didnât have a blush creeping up on his cheeks. He couldnât help it, Lance was charming, and it wasnât like Keith had hoards of boys flirting with him. It wasnât something he was used to.
 âCan I get your number?â
Keithâs head whipped up to stare at Lance. He knew in his head that asking for a number was just a normal part of flirting but to actually have someone just come out and ask him for the first time was hard to handle.
âYou know, since I owe you pizza and stuff.â
Oh right, that. Keith took a deep breathe and handed his phone over to Lance so he could add his number. Lance quickly texted himself so heâd have Keithâs number. When Keith got it back he saw that Lance added a heart to his name in his contacts.
âAlso I kind of want to date you, if youâre interested.â
This boy was going to give him whiplash. âI uh, what?â
âYou stayed this whole time for me, and youâre cute, and I kind of got some vibes from you so I thought,â He ran his hand through his hair. âI totally misread all of this, didnât I?â
âWait, itâs not that, itâs just, Iâm not really used to this.â Keith said. Lance looked at him quizzically. âGetting asked out. By boys. I like boys, thatâs probably something you should know, right? You asked me out not even knowing and youâre probably wondering,â
âOh my god you ramble when youâre nervous thatâs so cute.â Lance cooed.
âYouâre making it really hard for me to say yes.â Keith was definitely blushing now. He was glad it was dark so Lance probably couldnât see just how red he was.
âOkay okay, got it. No more stupid talking, starting now,â Lance motioned that he was zipping his lips and flicked away the key.
âYouâre so ridiculous.â Keith smiled softly. âFine. Yes. Iâll go out with you, just try not to destroy anymore holiday decorations or I will leave.â
Lance hummed happily. His eyes widened in false realization and he then unzipped his lips. âForgot I couldnât talk.â
Keith started laughing, he couldnât stop it as it bubbled up. âYouâre so stupid!â He said, still laughing. Lance was absolutely loving the attention. Keith had to take a few more breaths before he could talk again. âCall me soon.â
So after seeing @eyugho âs comic I just needed to write this. It took me longer than I intended due to work and midday naps but I finished it! Hopefully there arenât too many typos in it I wanted to get it out before going to bed today.

Planet Oulike was, to say the least, adorable. Lance was certain that there couldnât be a more adorable race in the entire universe. The Ouliken were kind of sheep-like, and their wooly coats were braided and woven into intricate designs. Lance was fairly certain that the colors were artificial, dyes added in the braiding process to enhance the designs. Their Queenâs coat was an intricate masterpiece that was reminiscent of a Persian rug. Some of the wool was sheared off in the process of making their clothes, but part of it was carefully spun while still attached to create the base of the weave. They showed the Paladins the process since they were all pretty curious about how their clothes seemed to be attached to their bodies.
Even the insects on the planet were absolutely adorable. Lance held his hand out for a pink heart-shaped moth-like bug to land on.
âI see one of our Hubun has found you!â The queen said happily. âThey are a delightful creature, native to our planet.â She told them. âYou may want to be careful, however. Their bite â â
Lance didnât even wait for her to finish talking. As much as he might enjoy a cute little bug, like moths or grasshoppers or cicadas he hated anything that might bite him. He shook his hand furiously and the moth went sailing into Keithâs face.
The Queen chuckled. âNow now, you donât have to be afraid of the Hubun,â
Keith suddenly yelped and smacked the bug off his face. It flew away into the distance, no longer interested in any of the paladins.
âLance! What the hell?â Keith whipped his head around to glare at Lance. âWhyâd you have to throw it at me?â
âI didnât mean to throw it at you, I didnât want to get bitten!â
âYeah and now Iâm the one who got bitten!â
âI didnât realize there was so much discord between your paladins.â The Queen said, though she didnât seem the least bit disturbed by this. If anything, she seemed amused. âPerhaps the Hunbun chose them for a reason.â
âWhat exactly are you talking about?â Allura asked.
âThe bite of a Hubun causes uninhibited infatuation with the first person the bitten person sees, only for a few days. In this case it seems your red paladin has fallen for your blue paladin.â
Keith blinked a few times, then stared at Lance, his glare softening. âWow, Lance Iâm really sorry, I shouldnât have yelled at you like that.â
 âOh no.â Lanceâs face paled.
âOh yes.â Pidge slapped her hands together.
âShiro!â Lance yelled across the crowd to where Hunk was getting his hair braided and Shiro was being covered in woven wreathes with all the colors of Voltron.
Shiro looked up immediately at the tone of his voice and quickly pushed through the crowd to make his way over to the rest of his team, followed shortly by Hunk who was very unhappy that the Ouliken didnât get to finish doing his hair.
âWhat happened? Is something wrong?â Shiro looked around quickly, looking for whatever could have caused Lanceâs obvious distress.
 âPlease help me.â
In the short time it took for Shiro and Hunk to rejoin the rest of the group, Keith had made his way over to Lance and was now standing behind him with his arms wrapped loosely around his waist and his pressed against his neck.
âI. Um.â Shiro stammered, unsure of the sight before him.
âGet this.â Pidge said happily. âKeith got bitten by some alien love bug and now heâs even gayer than usual and completely into Lance.â
âHelp. Please.â Lance said again and Keithâs hands started to roam.
âAre you uh, are you doing okay there Lance?â Hunk asked.
âDo I look like Iâm doing okay?â Lance practically shouted.
âCalm down, Lance.â Keith said softly into his hear, eliciting a shiver from the other boy.
âOkay, Keith, please let go of Lance. Youâre clearly making him very uncomfortable.â Shiro ordered after processing what exactly was going on.
âIn our culture,â The Queen cut in, âWe typically reciprocate the Hubunâs effects by having the other party become bitten as well. We believe strongly in the free exchange of love. Iâm sure it wonât be hard to find another Hubun for your blue paladin here. The experience will bring them closer than ever.â
âI like that idea.â Keith pressed a kiss against Lanceâs shoulder. He then said, quietly so only Lance could hear him, âI know you donât like bug bites, but how about a love bite from me?â
Lance figured out how to get his legs working again after hearing that and immediately pushed himself out of Keithâs arms and stumbled forward. Shiro got between the two boys before Keith could reattach himself to Lance and held him back.
âI think the best course of action would be to get everyone back to the castle.â Shiro said.
âWe thank you for your hospitality, truly.â Allura bowed to their queen. âIf I may, could we take a specimen back to our labs? We want to be able to do some tests to see if the bite will have any unexpected symptoms on our paladin due to his different biology. Any information you have on the Hubuns will be greatly appreciated.â
âOf course dear! Come this way.â She ushered Allura back towards the village center. âThank you and continue to spread the love.â The Queen said with a wave to the rest of team Voltron.
Once they were back at the castle they had time to try and figure out what exactly could be done about Keithâs situation. Figuring things out, unfortunately, meant that Coran was needed for his knowledge on alien biology, Hunk and Pidge were needed for their combined extensive knowledge on pretty much everything else, and Shiro was needed for leadership. Actually, Lance was pretty sure that Shiro wasnât needed all that much and really wished that Shiro would come help keep Keith off of him. They could have at least made Keith a part of the think tank trying to find a way to end the love infection sooner instead of just taking a blood sample and leaving it at that. Lance resorted to locking himself in his room. Keith tried a few times to convince him to open the door but he refused and Keith eventually went away.
Lance buried his face in his pillow and sighed.
âWhy did this have to happen?â He moaned. Of course his crush would get space roofied into falling for him, the universe was just out to get him like that. He couldnât handle it. Keithâs hands on his body made his skin feel like it was catching on fire even through the paladin armor. The memory of it burned in his mind and felt like that fire of emotion had left scorch marks on him and he could feel himself blushing. Lance wanted nothing more than anything to fully give in to Keithâs insane infatuation with him, but he wasnât that kind of guy. âObviously Keith would never like me without some stupid alien bug bite,â he told himself.
âLance? Buddy?â Hunkâs voice called through his door.
 âIâm not here.â Lance answered.
âI fixed up some dinner if youâre hungry. I made some of your favorites!â
Lance crawled out of bed and opened the door. âFine. Iâll come out for food.â
âOh and also we have some new information about the Hubun love bite.â Hunk said very quickly, grabbing Lance by the arm and tugging him away from his door before he had a chance to retreat back inside to safety.
âYou lured me out with food just to tell me bad news? Hunk, youâre demoted. The mice are now my best friends.â Lance huffed.
âItâs not that bad! Itâs not like, best case scenario news but itâs better than we thought.â Hunk admitted. âFrom what Allura gathered about the Hubun it only lasts a few days, but thatâs on Ouliken. On Keith, it might be a bit less. We think a larger body is going to work through the toxin faster, but weâre not entirely sure. The only thing weâre really sure about is that thereâs no way to lessen the effects artificially, so we can only hope it wears off in a day or two instead of taking even longer. The Queen said it can sometimes last up to a week with Ouliken.â
âHunk!â Lance cried. âIâm gonna die. This is it. Iâm going to die of being too bi to function. I bequeath to you all my hair supplies. But Pidge gets my face masks. If Iâm dead she canât get mad at me for thinking that she needs them.â
âItâs not that bad.â Hunk said. âI thought you said you got over your crush on Keith anyways.â
âI might have underestimated the size of that crush and the whole âgetting over itâ was a bit of wistful thinking and storytelling.â
âOh, Lance.â His friend sighed. âItâll be okay. Shiro can help keep Keith away from you if he goes too far. And Iâm pretty sure dying of a crush isnât an actual thing.â
âYes it is!â Lance insisted. âIâll have a heart attack! All my blood is gonna rush to my face and then my head is going to explode. Itâs going to be super gross and I canât do this!â
âYou donât really have a choice, man.â Hunk said awkwardly. âLike I said, thereâs not really anything we can do but wait this out.â
Hunk continued to lead Lance to the dining hall. Lance could feel his heart pounding in his chest, still stuck on the thought of Keithâs hands on his hips. Luckily, Keith was missing from the dinner table when he and Hunk arrived. Allura and Shiro were chatting and Pidge was fiddling with her phone while Coran set the table with the amazing food that Hunk had made for them. At least Hunk was a good friend who knew just the right foods to make for Lance when he was on the verge of panicking.
They all sat down to eat. Shiro was looking at the door, clearly concerned. They all chatted like nothing was wrong but even then, the nagging feeling remained. It wasnât just Lance who was trying to stay calm. Hunk didnât say it, but Lance knew he was worried about Voltron. They couldnât form Voltron if Keith was completely out of it like this. Allura and Shiro were likely worried about the same thing, and Shiro was worried about Keithâs well-being on top of that. Pidge actually didnât seem all that stressed out. She was more amused than anything else by the whole situation.
âHonestly this whole thing is great.â Pidge said, grinning. âNot only can I make fun of Lance for being so scared of a cute little pink heart-shaped moth â â
âI wasnât scared! I just didnât want to get bitten by some alien bugs right on my face!â Lance exclaimed. âLook at this face! Bug bites are a bit fat no no with the amount of time I spend looking this good.â
 âYou do look really good.â
 âOh quiznack.â Lance said.
Keith had strutted into the room, Lanceâs green jacket hanging off his thin frame. He took a seat next to Lance and grinned at him.
âHow did you get my jacket?â Lance asked him.
âYou left your door open. I was looking for you, and you werenât there.â He was pouting and oh no, Lance could not handle that.
âKeith.â Shiro chastised. âYou really should give Lance his jacket back.â It was like he was talking to a child, but Keith wasnât having it.
âNo way. It smells like him.â
Lance moved his seat a bit away from Keith, or tried to at least. Keith hooked his ankle around the leg of the chair and pulled him back even closer than before.
âKeith.â Lance whined. âJust let me eat in peace, please.â
Keith didnât respond. He took the fork out of Lanceâs hand and finished the bite Lance had been about to eat. He withdrew the fork slowly from between his lips, never breaking eye contact with Lance before handing it back.
âWell thanks for dinner Hunk Iâm just gonna grab some of this and head back to my room.â Lance said very quickly, his voice cracking as he did. He went to grab a few bread rolls but Keith got to them before him. Keith took a bite of the one he was holding before handing it over to Lance.
âI um,â Lanceâs eyes darted between the roll and Keithâs lips. He grabbed the offered roll and darted off before anything else embarrassing could happen.
Lance needed a break. His heart was pounding in his chest, and not from running back to his room. He needed a shower. A very long, very cold shower, followed by about ten hours of sleep to hopefully clear his head.
It worked, a little bit. When Lance woke up he felt a lot better. Nobody was waiting for him outside his door as he left to get breakfast. Keith usually got up early to train, though Lance had no idea if he was still doing that in his current state. Everyone was already at the table when he got there. There was a spread of leftovers and food goo for them all to enjoy. Keith smiled as soon as Lance entered the room. He thought for a moment, contemplating his choices in his mind. If he didnât sit next to Keith, Keith would probably end up moving next to him, right? So maybe it would be for the best to sit next to him from the start.
âLance, sit here.â Keith waved him over.
âYeah, fine.â Lance grumbled. Keith was giving him puppy dog eyes but that definitely wasnât the reason why he was going to sit with him. Nope. Definitely not.
âI got you a plate.â Keith pushed a plate filled with first picks of Hunkâs leftovers. It was a nice gesture, and Lance was very hungry after ditching halfway through dinner the night before.
âAre you feeling alright?â Keith asked him, leaning in close. âYou left in a hurry last night.â
âDeep breathsâ he told himself. âIâm fine.â
 âIâll say.â Keith grinned.
Pidge groaned and dropped her fork. âI canât believe Keith is worse than Lance!â
âHey! Youâre the one who was enjoying this yesterday!â Lance shot back at her.
âItâs funny watching you be in pain.â She said.
âCome on guys, letâs just eat our food and then we can get some training in.â Shiro ordered. âAnd Keith, please try to behave yourself.â
 âNo promises.â
Lance elected to ignore Keithâs flirtations as he ate his food. It was hard though, and it wasnât even just the flirting that was killing him. The soft looks and the quiet sighs from Keith as he stared at Lance like he was the most beautiful thing in the world made his head spin, but he had to get ahold of himself. If Keith couldnât control himself, Lance had to at least be able to control himself. It wasnât helping that Keith was still wearing his jacket.
At least today Keith wasnât taking any food from Lance. Lance wasnât really sure if heâd be able to handle that display a second time. Maybe he saw how uncomfortable Lance was yesterday and decided to stop? Lance had no idea what was going through the guyâs mind. Across the table Shiro was shooting Keith stern looks. Brotherly fear must trump alien bug bites, Lance figured. Keith was inching very close to Lance, however. He got close enough that their arms brushed together every so often and Lance could feel the blush creeping back onto his cheeks. Pidge had her phone out and was not so subtly taking pictures of the two of them.
 Training came next.
Lance immediately made a beeline for Hunk for his sparring partner. He actually did think for a second heâd be able to train in peace, but he should have known better.
âLance.â Keith grabbed his arm and tugged him backwards. âYouâre with me today.â
âI always train with you! I want to train with someone else today.â Lance said, trying to get out of it.
âWe train together because weâre the closest in fighting level.â Keith replied, still pulling Lance over to their area of the training room. âPlus Iâd really like a chance to get my hands on you.â He winked at him.
âShiro!â Lance called for their leader.
Shiro was, however, completely distracted by Allura. âThe heteros have failed me again.â Lance thought bitterly. The two were sparring and Lance was pretty sure they managed to make it more romantic than even Keith could manage in his current state. Itâs not like Lance could really blame Shiro though. Being pinned by Allura was a fantasy anyone with eyes had.
âIâll taze him if he gets weird!â Pidge yelled across the room. Keith stuck his tongue out at here and yeah, okay, that was really cute. Lance wasnât going to make it through today alive.
âYou always end up with your ass on the ground, letâs see if you can hold me down for once.â Keith said.
Lance did his best to push the double meaning out of Keithâs taunt so he could focus on sparring. He hoped that Keith had his mind on sparring as well, but given how easy it was to get under him to flip him over and pin him to the ground, his mind was anywhere but fighting.
âI knew you had it in you.â Keith grinned. Lance sat up quickly and backed away from the boy laying underneath him. âAw, come on. I know youâre shy, but youâre so cute you canât expect me not to want this.â
âBut you donât want this!â Lance hissed. âGod, youâre so smart Keith, how has this thing infected you so completely that you canât even realize that these feelings youâre having never existed before yesterday?â Keith looked like he was about to say something but Lance didnât give him the chance. He stood up and stormed out of the training room, calling out over his shoulder to Shiro that he needed a break.
Footsteps sounded in the hall behind him as he made his way back to his room. Keith. It had to be Keith.
Lance turned a corner, then another, heading away from the rooms and hoping that Keith wouldnât know where he went. He pressed his back against the wall to make himself fit in a small crevice there and held his breath as he heard Keithâs steps stop in the hallway, then return and grow louder.
 âLance? Where did you go?â
Lance struggled to make himself as small as possible inside his hiding spot but he knew that if Keith got close it wasnât going to matter.
âThere you are!â Keith said happily when he caught sight of Lance hiding. âWhat are you doing there?â
Lanceâs first thought was to move â get away from the wall and run to his room before Keith did something Lance wouldnât be able to resist. He couldnât. Keith was in his space immediately and pressed himself up against Lanceâs chest. His face was as red as Lance knew his own must be, and his eyes were dilated past what would be normal for this light.
âI know you donât think what Iâm feeling is genuine.â Keith said softly, his breath warm and intoxicating against Lanceâs face. âBut I feel it, Lance. Youâre all I can think about.â He wasnât even looking Lance in the eyes, he was staring down and to the side. âIf what Iâm feeling isnât real then why does it hurt so much to be apart from you?â
Lance could feel his breath catch his throat. He wanted more than anything to lean forward and kiss Keith. He wanted to let Keith kiss him, have him in any way that he could imagine but he couldnât.
Keith raised his gaze to look Lance in the eyes. âPlease Lance.â He breathed. âLet me kiss you.â
He wasnât thinking, he couldnât think. Lance nodded before he could stop himself and suddenly Keithâs lips were on his. This had to stop, Lance knew that. He tried to push Keith away but Keith just took his wrists and pinned them back against the wall so he keep kissing the object of his infatuation.
âKeith stop â â Lance tried to say against his lips. That was a mistake, Keith took his chance to push his tongue between Lanceâs lips and deepen their kiss. Lance could feel his face burning. âThis must be what dying feels like,â he thought. He had to be dying. His brain was on fire and he couldnât think about anything except the electricity shooting through his veins as Keith continued to kiss him and press up against his body.
Finally, Keith pulled back. He licked his lips and smiled softly at Lance. âLance, I,â
Lance didnât wait for him to finish. It was becoming habit to run away from these situations with Keith at this point. There wasnât much else he could do. He shoved Keith. Hard. Keith stumbled backwards and tripped, falling hard on the ground. Lance didnât care. He had to get away. He just ruined everything real he could have ever had with Keith and he had to get away. So he ran.
Once he was back in his room where Keith couldnât flirt with him and make him feel weird all over, he tried to force himself to relax. He pulled out a box of sewing supplies heâd found in his closet as well as some old clothes he was using for scrap fabric and began to stitch pieces together. Since heâd gotten into space heâd tried to make souvenirs for his family for when he one day got to see them again. Now he was sewing a small Queen Luxia for his niece. She loved mermaids even more than he did. His hands were shaking and he could barely see straight as he looked at the fabric swatches in his lap.
There was a knock at the door and Lance dropped the needle he was holding.
âGo away Keith! Iâm not opening the door until youâre better.â He yelled.
 âItâs Shiro.â
âMy bad. Go away Shiro. Iâm not opening the door until Keith is better.â
âI actually ran into Keith in the hallway.â Shiro said. âI heard about what happened. Iâm sorry Lance, I should have followed you sooner after you left. But if it makes you feel any better, I may have accidentally locked Keithâs door from the outside. He canât get out until I let him.â
Lance got up and opened the door. âYou seriously gave him a time out?â
Shiro chuckled. âYes. He needed it. Can I come in?â
Lance hesitated for a moment before stepping to the side to let Shiro come in. He sat down on Lanceâs bed and motioned for Lance to join him.
âWe need to talk about whatâs been happening with Keith.â He said. âI should have been monitoring the situation more closely, and Iâm really sorry youâve been put through all this, Lance. I hope youâll be able to forgive Keith for his behavior once this is all over and out of his system.â
âThatâs not the problem.â Lance mumbled.
 âWhat?â
âI said. Thatâs not the problem.â Lance repeated a bit louder.
 âWhat are you talking about?â
âI kissed him!â Lance hid his face in his hands. âIâm a bad person, Shiro! God I liked him so much and I knew it was wrong but I let him kiss me! What kind of person does that? Heâs been infected by some sort of space love potion and I was enjoying it! He kissed me and he never would have done that if he had been in his right mind, and I know that and I still let it happen!â
âI heard he kissed you, I had no idea,â
âNo idea how awful I am, I know, right?â Tears were burning behind Lanceâs eyes as he spoke. âHeâs going to hate me. Iâd hate me. Hell, I already do hate me. You probably hate me now, too. I took advantage of your baby bro because Iâm selfish and weak and â â
âHold on Lance, you need to calm down.â Shiro put his arm around Lanceâs shoulder and tried to hold him steady as his body began to shake. Tears started to drip down his cheek but at least Shiro couldnât see that with his face buried in his hands.
âLance, listen to me. Youâre not a bad person.â He paused. âYou have a crush on Keith?â
 Lance nodded.
âYouâre right when you say itâs wrong to take advantage of someone who canât think straight, but nobody can expect you to be perfect when someone you like is acting like that towards you. Itâs the Hubunâs fault, okay Lance?â
Lance took a shuttered breath and uncovered his face. Shiro wiped a tear away with his thumb and smiled at him.
âHave you heard of the bro code, Lance?â
Lance snorted. âYes dude, of course I have.â
âWell, thereâs a funny thing about it. It only really applies to friends. For example, Iâm not going to turn around and tell Keith that you have a crush on him when he gets better because weâre friends. Keith on the other hand, isnât a friend. Heâs a brother.â He was grinning mischievously and Lance wasnât sure he trusted it. âWhich is why itâs my duty to tell his secrets if theyâre embarrassing or if I think itâll make things better. So Lance, I have no obligation at all to hide the fact that Keith actually does have a crush on you, and has for a while now.â
âYouâre lying.â Lance said almost instantly.
âScouts honor.â Shiro held up three fingers in a scout salute. âWhen he gets better, you two should have a talk.â
  -oOo-
Best case scenario seemed to be the one that happened. Lance woke up the next morning to find his jacket folded up neatly by his door, which Lance took as meaning that Keith was back to normal. He knocked on his door and while there was no answer, he could hear shuffling coming from inside.
âKeith?â He called out. After there was no response, he tried again. âKeith, buddy. We need to talk.â
A couple of ticks passed, then a few more, a dozen more; Lance was about ready to leave when the door finally slid open.
âLance Iâm so sorry I canât believe how I was acting oh quiznak you must have me Iâd hate me and I â â
Lance decided that after all the hell Keith had been putting him through he deserved the opportunity to deal back exactly what had been done to him. So he stepped into Keithâs room and silenced him by grabbing his face and kissing him.
Keith stepped back, eyes wide like a deer in the headlights. âYou just â but â Lance after what I did â â
âI really, really like you Keith.â Lance said. âI have for a while and thatâs why I was freaking out with how you were acting. I thought you couldnât possibly like me without that stupid bite but Shiro said â â
âShiro is a traitor!â Keith was blushing furiously.
âOh come on, you canât be that mad.â Lance laughed. âDo you want to try to kiss me without being all love potioned and overly aggressive about it?â
âYes. Hell yes.â Keith grabbed the front of Lanceâs shirt and pulled him back for a passionate kiss.
If they ever went back to Oulike, Lance might have to thank them for this.
okay so I decided that drabble from before wasnât finished so hereâs a quick little part 2 with increased levels of gay
itâs never too soon for season 3 inspired klance fics
[part 1]
[ao3]
Lance tried to think of something, anything to say, preferably something witty and stupid that would kill the moment before he had to deal with any sort of real emotions that were being brought to the surface but nothing came to mind. Keith pulled on his hand and tugged him closer and Lance was sure he had stopped breathing. Keith stared at his face, his eyes darting down to his lips and then back up.
âI told you, weâre getting back to the other thing you said.â He said.
âOh. Oh right, uh, that, that was,â Lance let out a breath he didnât even realize he was holding. âI donât think itâs that important.â
Keith furrowed his brow. âIt is important, Lance. Youâre important, and you said that you thought you should step down as a paladin!â
âWell I should have!â Lance said, much more firmly than he meant for it to come out but he went with it, staring coldly at Keith to make his point. âYou actually stepped down for Shiro to take the Black Lion and let me keep Red. Thatâs â why did you do that?â
Keith dropped his hand, but didnât let go of Lanceâs. He let their hands dangle in the empty space between and shrugged. âI donât know. You deserved it more, I think.â
 âDonât be stupid.â
âYouâre the one being stupid!â Keith tugged on Lanceâs hand again, pulling them even closer together until there was only a few inches between them. âI never wanted to be the leader, youâre the only reason I was even able to handle it. You showed me that I can do this when I have someone helping me, when I have you helping me. I donât know if I could handle being a Paladin of Voltron without you. But you, god you can do anything you put your mind to Lance, and I think thatâs amazing. You donât need me to hold you up, but I need you hold me back before I get myself and everyone else killed because I just donât think.â
âYouâre so stupid.â Lance said softly. âYouâre just describing yourself. Youâve always been amazing at everything, and I donât need you to pity me and talk me up just so I donât feel so bad. Iâm thankful, Iâm really, really thankful for what you were willing to give up for me, Iâm glad that you didnât have to, I feel bad for Shiro losing his lion, and Iâm thankful that youâre trying to make me feel better here but,â
âBut nothing, Lance.â Keith said, his voice stern. âIâm the leader now, and youâre my right hand man. And as leader, I say that youâre invaluable to the team. We could never have Voltron without you.â
Lance looked down, staring at the floor tiles and tried to hold back the tears he felt burning behind his eyelids.
âHey man, donât do that, you need to smile.â Keith used his free hand to gently lift Lanceâs chin. âYouâre our goofball. If youâre sad how are you going to keep the team from going stir crazy? Make a joke or use a bad pickup line, câmon. Lighten the mood for us.â
Lance sniffled and forced a big smile. âHey there cowboy, are you from Tennessee, because youâre the only ten I see.â
 Keith chuckled. âIâm from Texas.â
âOh gross, I canât hit on someone from Texas!â
âItâs too late, you already did.â Keith was grinning, and it didnât take long before Lance was smiling right back.
âFine, fine.â He thought for a second. âI donât have any Texan in me, but you know I sure would like some.â Lance winked. Keith looked like he was going choke laughing at that one.
âSo, Keith,â he continued. âYouâve had your hand on my face for an awfully long time now. Are you going somewhere with that?â
âIs that a pickup line or an actual question?â
âLetâs mark it down as both.â Lance grinned.
âAlrighty then.â Keith pulled Lanceâs face towards him and pressed a soft to his lips. âMy right-hand man.â He said softly. âMine.â
I just had to write something for all those sweet, sweet klance moments season 3 gave us so hereâs a little drabble I threw down
âYou know Keith, youâre doing a lot better at this whole leading thing than I thought you would.â Lance said, leaning against Keithâs doorframe.
âIs that a compliment or an insult?â Keith crossed his arms and raised an eyebrow.
âItâs whatever you want it to be man.â Lance shrugged, taking another step into Keithâs room and letting the door shut behind him. âI just uh, I kind of wanted to talk to you.â
Keith uncrossed his arms and tilted his head. âThis isnât about your math problem from before, is it?â
 âNo â well, kind of.â
 âLance, I told you,â
âItâs not that! I mean, I still kind of feel like,â Lance rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly, âI still feel like I should step down. Even if nobody asks me to, but Iâve always kind of felt like that so thatâs not what Iâm here to talk about.â
âLance! You,â Keithâs eyes widened but Lance made a âzip itâ motion with his hand and Keith obeyed.
âIâm glad to be the Red Paladin.â He said. âIâm glad to be your Red Paladin.â
Keith smiled fondly, a smile that Lance was slowly starting to love. âIâm happy to hear that, Lance. But donât think for a second weâre not circling back around to that other stuff you were saying.â
âUgh, leave it alone for now!â Lance whined. âI didnât come in here to talk about my problems, I just wanted to say, you were always really great as Shiroâs right hand, and I like where Iâm at in the team now. Iâm, Iâm really happy to be yours.â
The two stared at each other for a moment, Lanceâs face slowly heating up. âI just meant uh, the Red Paladin is the right hand of the Black Paladin, and Iâm yours, I mean, Iâm your right hand, the Red Paladin, and you know,â He waved his hand around erratically. âIâm â weâre â â A pause. âWeâre a good team, Keith.â
Keith snatched Lanceâs hand out of the air and squeezed it tightly. âIâm glad to have you by my side.â He took a step closer to Lance, and Lance followed suit. Neither was entirely sure what it was that they were planning on doing but they both felt that something should be happening.
Luckily Keith, the fearless leader, took his role seriously enough to make the first move. He pulled Lanceâs hand towards his face and pressed a soft kiss to Lanceâs knuckles. âAnd Iâm glad youâre mine, too.â
Iâll be honest I went into this intending it to end a bit gayer but I kind of loved where it went so I kept it like that donât worry Iâll probably write something gayer soon or maybe even a short sequel to this since Keith still has some shit to say to Lance
