true f r i e n d s weren’t something katherine had many of, but after the little stint in hell? kai parker had in fact been something close to that. two of the worlds most c h a o t i c and villainous people. the brunette smiled, easily throwing back some of the drink in her hand as her finger tips brush over the glass before setting it down. her chocolate tinted hues were very quick to catch the nice layout, those who lived here definitely had t a s t e. “little ole me? oh you know, little of this.. little of that.” a devious smirk settled instantly and hidden intent was laced in every word she spoke, her body began to sway at the beat of the lizzo song pumping through the room. “i took a year to myself before coming back o f f i c i a l l y, used that time wisely and to my advantage for a little knowledge and to gather all my cards.” her jimmy choos press against the hardwood floor as she moves, looking over the family portraits hanging and turns back to face kai. "i’ve also moved into a mansion with a man.” she said, a nonchalant tone as she spoke and her head tilts to the side. “what about y o u? there must be something going on in the world of kai parker.” 

    “  a  man.  ”  he’s  a  sucker  for  gossip,  especially  when  katherine  pierce  is  at  the  forefront  of  it.  “  tell  me  all  about  THAT.  ”  he’s  all  ears,  waiting  to  hear  details  of  the  MYSTERY  MAN  katherine  has  allowed  into  her  world.  (  he  has  high  expectations  but  he  can’t  imagine  they  won’t  be  met.  )  he  goes  to  lean  against  the  back  of  the  couch,  legs  crossed  at  the  ankle  as  he  takes  another  sip  of  his  drink.  “  well,  a  little  of  this,  a  little  of  that.  ”  his  smile  spreads,  making  himself  comfortable  where  he  stands.  “  i’ve  been  mentoring  my  niece.  ”  mentoring  is  one  way  to  put  it,  but  it  stands  to  the  fact  it  isn’t  entirely  untrue.  “  she’s  coming  along  nicely,  showing  a  LOT  of  promise.  ”  promise  for  what?  he  can  practically  hear  her  asking.  and  he’d  provide  a  worth  while  answer  if  he  truly  knew.  his  plan  is  unravelling  before  him  and  it  is  a  truly  beautiful  sight.  who  wants  to  drag  it’s  progress down  with  details?

it’s been a few weeks. a few weeks since she decided she’s had enough of jack and his reign of torment on will and her ( will especially, of course ). a few weeks since she stared death right in the eye, quivered, and saw the darkness with regret in her heart. ever since, she’s been wondering just what happened ;  but it’d be futile to seek answers in the wrong places. she knew her uncle might know something   —-   but also refused to reach out to ask him. ( she’s been dreading the answer, clearly. ) so, is it kind of hypocritical that she’s angry he hasn’t reached out himself? yes. but that’s his job, isn’t it? the only reason why she’s kept silent and done his bidding: he’s helping her. good to know he dipped on that too. “ and you have no idea how good it is to see you haven’t been sucked up by a black hole. where the hell have you been? ” if she’s agitated, it’s only because all the questions, confusion, and fear are exploding all at once ( in a sick, twisted way, she could say she’s reeling from his …  absence ). “ well? it went well? i don’t know if you’re aware, but i died. things would’ve been fine if i didn’t lose control, but i did and everything was screwed to hell. ”

   he’s  already  moving  the  chess  pieces  again,  falling  back  into  the  LATEST  phase  of  his  plan.  he  listens  to  her  attentively  (  careful  not  to  undo  all  the  work  he’d  done  pre  death  )  and  waits  until  she’s  finished.  until  she’s  gotten  out  the  righteous  anger  at  his  absence.  he  can  see  it,  from  her  perspective,  but  he’s  already  planned  for  it.  were  this  conversation  taking  place  six  months  ago,  he’d  considerably  more  anxious  than  he  is  now.  he’d  have  to  excuse  himself,  would  have  to  think  on  his  feet  to  MAINTAIN  her  trust.  but  ...  this  isn’t  six  months  ago.  (  he’s  confident  that  she’ll  take  everything  he’s  about  to  say  under  consideration,  at  least.  because,  as  always,  it’s  a  VERSION  of  the  truth.  )  “  except  it  wasn’t.  ”  he  waits  a  few  moments,  lets  her  digest  what  he’s  obviously  referring  to,  before  he  continues.  “  screwed  to  hell,  i  mean.  ”  THERE’S  his  in.  he’s  cultivated  enough  that  he  feels  confident  to  dive  into  his  long  winded  explanation.  (  he  has  been  working  on  it  for  weeks  after  all.  )  “  i’m  sorry  that  i  haven’t  been  around.  ”  first  step,  an  apology.  it  has  to  make  sure  this  rapport  they’ve  built  is  still  there,  gently  touch  on  it  now  and  then.  an  ever  flowing  thread  between  all  his  thoughts.  “  but  i’m  not  exactly  popular  with  the  family.  i  thought  i’d  take  the  attention  away  from  you.  ”  and  regardless  of  whether  he  was  trying  to  help  her  or  not,  that’s  never  been  his  intention.  “  imagine  the  black  sheep  strolling  back  into  the  family  dinner  and  announcing  that  you  might  be  okay.  ”  there  it  is.  “  i  had  an  insurance  plan,  a  little  something  to  make  sure  that  if  you  went  too  far,  you’d  walk  out  of  it  to  the  other  side.  ”  unscathed.  just  as  she’s  standing  here  before  him.  “  it  worked.  ”  he  cracks  a  smile,  a  genuine  sincere  one  ;  it’s  still  a  strange  shade  on  him.  “  obviously.  ”  there’s  a  gesture  to  her,  standing  before  him,  alive.  “  but  i  couldn’t  guarantee  it  would,  so  ...  ”  he  offers  her  a  shrug,  the  smile  stays  in  place.  “  i’m  glad  it  did.  ”

    “  how  long  is  a  piece  of  string?  ”  she  has  a  perpensity,  as  far  as  he  can  tell,  for  OBVIOUS  questions.  (  he  can’t  say  he’s  particularly  fond  of  that,  but  hey,  live  and  learn.  murder  and  punish.  he  gets  the  idea.  )  “  it’s  a  snowstorm  actually,  ”  he  corrects,  as  he  pinches  another  chip  from  the  bag  he’d  procured  earlier.  there  isn’t  much  entertainment  around  but  being  overly  pedantic  might  fill  some  of  the  void  left  by  the  unfortunate  turn  of  events.  “  and  you  ever  heard  of  blankets?  they  have  them  around,  they’re  meant  to  provide  warmth.  probably  invented  by  some  village  genius  who  looked  stood  up  and  say  hey,  it’s  cold.  ”  he  spares  her  a  smile,  condescending  but  still  a  smile.  (  beggars  can’t  be  choosers.  )  “  by  that  logic,  your  future  looks  bright,  kid.  ”

an a m u s e d smile curls on her lips, the brunette extends her arm to take the bottle of whiskey, a glass nearby is also taken, filled with the a m b e r liquid and she glanced up to the other. “you know, u s u a l l y i am the first to correct and say i’m t h a t  b i t c h. but lizzo may just be a close second, and you a close third.” katherine hummed, lifting her glass to clink with kais. 

    happily  clinking  his  glass  against  hers,  hips  still  swaying  to  the  music  booming  through  the  room.  “  the  highest  honour.  ”   he  takes  another  sip  of  his  drink,  gives  the  chorus  a  few  moments  to  reach  it’s  apex,  before  he  speaks  again.  “  hm,  ”  he  puts  his  drink  to  the  side,  on  one  of  the  assorted  side  tables  that  he  could  only  imagine  belonged  to  the  clearly  very  rich  inhabitants  of  this  house.  (  he  isn’t  BANKING  on  them  coming  home  anytime,  but  if  they  did,  well  ---  he  was  no  MONSTER.  he  could  extend  an  invitation.  )  “  so  kitty  kat,  ”  a  charming  nickname  naturally,  “  what’s  news  in  your  world?  ”  he  has  his  own  BULLETIN  BOARD  of  worthy  gossip  he’d  like  to  think,  but  he’s  always  open  to  her  world,  at  least.

    some  would  call  this  a  crisis,  he’d  call  it  a  breakthrough.  he’d  fallen  down  a  hole  of  shaved  eyebrow  videos  around  three  am,  and  by  six  am,  he’d  officially  parted  with  his.  they  grow  back  perfectly  he’s  heard  and  he’s  got  an  eternity  to  waste,  so  naturally,  he  likes  it.  around  eight  am,  he’d  also  found  out  that  regina  george  was  quite  possibly  a  very  good  (  but  still  budgeted  )  version  of  him.  he’s  seen  both  movies  now  and  he  was  disappointed  to  learn  that  not  only  was  regina  george  noticeably  absent  from  the  sequel,  but  that  it  was  garbage.  he’d  REDEEMED  the  series  by  watching  the  musical  (  he  regrets  nothing  )  and  learning  almost  all  of  the  words  to  apex  predator.  his  final  act  of  appreciation  was  a  trip  to  the  local  party  city,  to  buy  one  of  those  ridiculous  pink  skirts  and  wear  it  over  his  otherwise  entirely  pink  outfit.  “  alright,  ”  he  thinks,  as  he  looks  at  himself  in  the  window  like  well ....  a  man  in  crisis,  “  i  think  we’re  good.  ”  a  nod  before  he  goes  back  to  belting  the  opening  line  to  apex  predator.

    “  woah.  watch  out  guys,  this  is  the  fun  police.  ”  his  voice  drops  two  octave  for  the  overdramatic  sentiment.  he  walks  past  him,  unaffected,  and  making  a  beeline  for  the  pantry.  “  don’t  worry,  officer  steve,  ”  his  voice  is  only  slightly  muffled  by  his  head  in  the  pantry,  brushing  past  various  uninspiring  snack  options  and  rustling  through.  “  i  don’t  want  to  get  out  of  here.  ”  what’s  on  the  outside  for  him?  certain  death?  hypothermia?  he’s  good,  thanks.  (  besides,  he  has  always  wanted  a  tour  of  where  his  darling  nieces  go  to  school.  )  “  big  foot  and  i  are  having  a  disagreement.  ”  he  stretches  out  further,  reaches  to  the  back  of  the  pantry  and  pulls  a  bag  of  chips  free.  it’ll  do,  he  deduces,  as  he  turns  it  over.  “  yetis,  am  i  right?  ”  he  pushes  the  door  closed  and  rips  the  bag  open,  taking  heavy  liberties  with  the  amount  he  pours  into  his  mouth.

    everything  was  perfectly  in  place.  lizzie  was  alive  (  again  ),  her  family  had  stopped  weeping  (  profusely  )  and  someone  had  yet  to  claim  responsibility  for  her  mysterious  resurrection.  ding,  ding,  ding.  that’s  where  he  comes  in.  he’d  had  to  wait,  had  already  spun  a  story  about  the  disappointing  child  and  how  he  wouldn’t  be  welcomed  or  believed.  it  wasn’t  his  fault  ;  it  was  theirs.  (  and  of  course,  he  didn’t  want  to  cause  trouble  in  such  a  turbulent  time.  )  “  lizzie.  ”  he  walks  over,  is  careful  to  put  the  compassion  that  is  somewhat  genuine  and  somewhat  practiced  into  the  flow  of  his  motions.  (  he  cares  about  her  ;  that’s  why  he  saved  her  life.  he’s  simply  going  to  enjoy  reiterating  that  fact.  )  “  you  have  no  idea  how  good  it  is  to  see  you.  ”  somewhat  genuine.  it’s  good  to  see  her  alone.  without  her  entourage  of  appreciative  family  and  friends.  seriously,  she  seems  to  be  in  constant  company.  “  i  see  the  spell  went  well.  ”   he  cracks  a  smile,  and  then  leans  over  in  a  gesture  to  say  well,  “  well,  it  worked.  ”  he  remembers  not  to  understate  the  spell,  because  it  may  have  killed  her  but  it  was  a  damn  impressive  plan.  “  pretty  impressive.  ”  @geminislegacy​

the woman looks at him with the wounds on her neck still bleeding and a terrified look in her eyes. klaus doesn’t feel any particular way about it. “are you going to kill me?” 

“have you not heard a word?” he snaps at her, irritated. “of course i’m going to kill you.”

    “  excuse  me,  ”  he  strides  up  to  klaus  mikaelson  -  the  great  evil,  the  name  whispered  in  hushed  tones  in  darkened,  quiet  rooms.  the  man  who  would  tear  out  your  heart  and  smile  as  the  reality  became  clear.  (  we  all  have  our  hobbies,  he’s  somewhat  of  a  fan  boy.  )  “  if  i  may  interject,  ”  he  leans  over  to  get  a  better  look  at  the  woman,  wearing  fear  well  as  the  blood  trickles  down  her  neck,  and  smiles  maliciously  at  her  before  he  turns  back  to  the  action  at  hand.  “  not  that  i  have  kids,  but  i  do  have  nieces.  ”  there’s  a  degree  of  difference,  but  he  too  shares  the  desire  to  have  gotten  to  them  sooner.  and  then,  perhaps,  they’d  be  wearing  the  spines  of  their  ex-boyfriends  around  their  necks.  (  he  doesn’t  think  lizzie’s  far.  if  that  was  his  intention.  )      “  and  i  have  to  say,  i  get  it.  ”  he  waves  his  hand,  a  gesture  of  i’ve  been  there.  “  i  think  they  have  an  overdose  of  compassion.  i  tell  you,  it’s  like  they’ve  never  heard  pride  in  their  lives.  ”  another  dismissive  wave  of  his  hand.  “  but,  but,  ”  he’s  always  had  a  flair  for  the  dramatic,  holding  one  finger  up  to  indicate  something  is  coming,  “  i  have  found  great  success  in  continuous  positive  reinforcement.  you  give  a  little,  you  push  a  little,  they  give  a  little.  ”  he  leans  back,  content  to  watch  once  more.  “  that’s  my  two  cents,  anyway.  as  you  were.  ”

    what  prison  worlds  lacked  in  company  they  made  up  for  in  alcohol,  at  least. sometimes entertainment  (  thank  you,  jade  )  but  definitely  alcohol.  he’s  pouring  a bottle of  some mixer  down  his  throat,  gleeful  with  abandon.  he tips  his  head  back, wipes  under his  chin and swallows  thickly.  the  display  is  gluttony  as  much  as  it  is  pride, knowing  that  many  of  the  patrons  of  this  bar  were  likely  to  have  issues  of  one  kind  or  another.  (  likely  that  they  refused  to  give  into.  unsurprising.  )  he’s  shooting  the  bartender  another  look,  knowing  as  he  taps  his  palms  on  the  bar,  before  he  leans  back.  he  catches  sight  of  a  particularly  invested  patron,  trails  over  their  form  with  unremarkable  interest.  “  what?  ”  he  hits  the  bar  again,  a  truly  trademarked  smile  taking  over  his  features.  “  you  never  seen  a  man  try  to  drink  himself  under  the  table  before?  ”
