How to Pick the Best Dye-Sublimation Printer for Beginners
I guess those who are planning to purchase a dye-sublimation printer are already familiar with products of such companies as Mitsubishi, Sawgrass and DNP. These manufacturers produce really great devices often successfully used in large enterprises. Smaller companies usually can’t afford this kind of equipment, yet if they do purchase them at a lower price, it’s most likely that printers have been already used by someone else.
The situation with beginners here is even worse, needless to say they don’t have enough money for buying expensive dye-sublimation printers.
So what do you need to know when picking a dye-sublimation printer that will serve you a lifetime? How to choose the best sublimation printer you really need? What brand is the best choice? By the way, Epson, Canon, and Hewlett-Packard produce awesome devices for printing, but this is not what we’re going to talk about right now.
If you’re just a hobbyist or amateur in sublimation printing, PrizedReviews.com recommends to try ink-jet sublimation printers. Of course we can have a long and never ending discussion about pros and cons of different models here, but we don’t want an ordinary ink-jet printer, we need a specialized one for sublimation printing. Thus we should consider buying only piezoelectric ink-jet models offered by Epson only, which really makes the choice much easier now. Keep in mind that Canon produces bubble jet printers, while Hewlett-Packard works with drop-on-demand inkjet technology.
Now you just can buy any model you like and start working. But if you would like to avoid some possible minor troubles in printing, we could still narrow the list of devices available on the market.
In order to avoid nozzle clogging and, consequently, frequent head cleaning which can lead to ink excessive consumption and print delay, you need to consider such factor as the drop size.
Photo printing is better achieved with small drop size (the less the better, actually), while bigger drop sizes, for instance, 4 picoliter (pl) are good in dye-sublimation printing. This will not dramatically affect the printing quality, of course, yet you will avoid frequent head cleaning and save ink wasted after nozzles cleaning.
Some people print with 1.5 pl drop dye-sublimation printers, and it doesn’t trouble them at all. But don’t forget that ink quality is another major factor to consider here.
So, it’s really up to you to choose. The printing quality will be relatively the same (yet with 1.5 pl drop it would be better though), but using the 4 pl drop size printer you will be quite sure the device will serve you longer. By the way you don’t have to rack your brains about what kind of ink to choose in this case. Probably such parameter as ink fraction size will not be your headache at all.
So, let’s sum it up! You will need the following items for dye-sublimation printing:
Ink-jet sublimation printer (Epson preferably).
4 pl drop size.

My brother had Microsoft Flight Simulator in the mid-1980s. He was good at that kind of thing, he had insight. He was a real nerd: glasses, Beatle hair, and a big digital watch that displayed all the different moon phases. He could land a plane.
