using photoshop to develop original illustrations into pattern designs. may use to create promotional items for graduate show
portfolio index
as the majority of my portfolio work is being displayed in the exhibition, i have created two a4 contents pages that explain a little about each item which would be in the archive box. there will also be a few digital prints in my portfolio to show my abilities in painting and digital design.
i think this also makes a nice addition to the exhibition display, should any veiwers wish for a little more information about each item.
index pages made in photoshop.
promotional postcards
i may include these in the promotional packets, but this could compromise the balance and i think adding too much of a similar theme could be too much. if i don’t include them, then i can sell them at a later date.
experimentation with promotional packets
above are some of the various ways I could compile my promotional material. each pack will contain: - 1 business card - 1 sticker - 1 digital a6 print
the first two images show a paper bag constructed from an a4 sheet of one of my designs, then sealed shut with a sticker. whilst i really like this idea, i have chosen the tracing paper parcels in the following image. I think people will be more inclined to take one of the packs, if there is a little glimpse of the contents. the last image, featuring a plastic packet, was my least favourite presentation of merchandise. Whilst it protects the products, i feel that it lacks that special quality which can be seen in the others. it also doesn’t quite fit with the aesthetic of my project.
business card final design. i opted for this print, as each card cut from an a4 sheet will provide a unique design.
sticker designs, printed and cut to size! hoping to use as part of my promotional packs, or sell at the graduate show
part 3 of promotional packs (stickers to be cut to size and included in packets)
elopment of my illustrations of found objects. original drawings coloured using pencils, scanned and enhanced using photoshop. increased the saturation and made minor adjustments to errors in the drawings. added my name and small decorative details across the bottom, with the intention to give away as promotional a6 items at the degree show
This weekend I volunteered at the portsmouth comicon with a group of coursemates. together, we held workshops in clay model making, character design, storyboarding and making badges. We worked together to come up with fun approached to each task, and ensured there was something for each skillset. whilst model making required a lot of patience and delicate work, there was a badge machine which we taught ourselves to use, so that children with perhaps a shorter attention span could take part in arts and crafts also!
Not only did I have the opportunity to demonstrate my skills as a teacher, but I was able to have a look around at the artist stall. I was able to chat to other creatives and get an idea of how makers promote their own work, which will come in handy for the degree show.
in preparation for the degree show, I have started putting together some illustrations which can be turned into prints and other merchandise. in keeping with the theme of gathered things, i have drawn some of the items which feature in my recent work (bugs, shells and teeth).
i plan to add colour and perhaps digitally enhance the tones using photoshop.

horniman museum: exhibition display research
investigation into how displays incorporate aesthetics to create educational narratives. whilst these displays serve a predominantly as methods of teaching, their use of decoration, such as the moss, miniature rockeries and artificial mushrooms, create a visually pleasing display that captivates a wide audience. i like the use of natural materials, and particularly how the content has been arranged to mimic the natural setting, as seen with the field mice and goldfinches. whilst this will be challenging to draw upon in my exhibition space for the degree show, i hope to incorporate a similar aesthetic to act as a foundation to support my exhibited pieces of work.

wimborne reading scheme day 6
Today’s reading session took place during an art class for 3ST, whereby the students were learning about primary and secondary colours and their place on the colour wheel. Despite the children being happy to put the paints aside and take a short break to read, it was a little more challenging as they were clearly having a lot of fun in their art class and wanted to return to their sketchbooks. It required me to be a little more persuasive and on a few occasions we had to make compromises with how much reading material we were going to tackle today! Nonetheless, the 2 hour session went smoothly and even one of the students who doesn’t enjoy reading, wanted to join in. I have to spend a little more time with one child in particular, who’s reading abilities seem to be severely lacking in comparison to the others in her year group, but I’m glad to be able to provide that added support.
