warm mornings when its a little foggy and there’s dew on the grass, or after a fresh rain. that and the scent of cigarette smoke brings back some memories, but he doesn’t like the shit right up in his face. roman himself smells like this pleasant mixture of fresh linens and coconut along with a little hint of leather and HARD WORK.

he’s an early riser, only because he has an alarm set to do so. actually, two alarms. he tends to sleep through the first one, but he gets up easily enough at the second one. he’s a relatively firm sleeper, noises don’t bother him, but he wakes up to touch in a heartbeat. he starts every day with a run so he tries to get to bed at a relatively decent hour. gets back home, takes a shower, starts his day.

          an abrupt hand on her shoulder was withdrawn quickly, realizing that the crown of red hair adorning her wasn’t exactly the one he’d thought it was. he’d mistaken her for someone else, and he could already feel the warmth spreading across the hollows of his cheeks. “sorry,” murmured, wringing tattooed hands briefly before thumbs were pocketed in a more casual manner. “definitely thought you were somebody else. that’s -- really embarrassing.”

          he’d never worked with this one before, little blonde thing in the drivers seat; but if there was one thing his mother-in-law had taught him, it was not to underestimate women. darling was a force of nature, and he could only expect this one to be the same. femme fatales. 

          the shotgun between his legs, gripped by the handle was traced by gloved thumbs, green eyes peering over the brim of dark sunglasses at the bank across the way. they were waiting for their cue, that subtle gesture that waved the car forward and roman to bust out, guns blazing against the hoard of cops that were inevitable. a distraction to keep the others safe until they could load up into the back of the car. hopefully this one could get them away from the fray as effectively as baby. he’d caught her name -- well, codename -- by an off chance, only by hearing her spoken to back at the safehouse. angel. cute.

          “this is taking too long.” spoken beneath his breath, leg bouncing with nerves and uncertainty. they should’ve been signaled by now, or the others should’ve been out. “something’s wrong.”

          the last nineteen years of the life had been spent like this, working jobs, taking what he could get: at first, it had been the vulnerability aspect, hostage situations -- he was young back then, a child, and nobody ever expected a child. as he’d grown, he became a more dominating force, able to take anyone down hand to hand and fast as hell on his feet. unfortunately, he couldn’t outrun a bullet. 

          hands pressed against the hole in his side, he managed to stumble to his feet in the vault of the bank, hauling ass out and to the getaway car waiting in the lot. the pain hadn’t sank in yet, roman was running on adrenaline at this point, but he just hoped that monica and jason had gotten out alright. but, he still had a very full duffel bag over his shoulder, enough to take care of them for another month of two. that was what mattered, right?

          “fuck --” thank god for mouthguards, or roman was pretty sure that hit would’ve knocked a few teeth loose. wiping his lower lip with the back of his hand, he shook out his posture, balling up his fists as he bounced on his toes. “hell of a hook you’ve got, man. who taught you how to fight like that?” another swing, aimed at derek’s middle, trying to connect knuckles with his obliques. it was nice, having time to let out a little bit of primal rage and aggression after hours in the gym, especially with someone who could handle his hits.
