I just know Dick Grayson is good in the director’s chair. He loves leading, he loves people, he loves watching your face as his best friend stretches your legs further apart. It’s like a dream to him.
“Does it feel good? Mm. Thoughts so.” He smiles before pointing with his chin forward. “Now, focus. You shouldn’t be looking at me right now.”
And how can you not? He’s sprawled in a chair, hard enough that all three of you can see it, but nothing is as distracting as the sparkle in his eyes when his gaze meets where his best friend sinks further inside you.

Nightwing has been missing for a few weeks and his confrontation is due.

Days later, very little changes. Dick still lays in an unfamiliar bed, curled around an old blanket they provided him, staring at his phone for the last ten minutes — t’s an improvement from the cracked ceiling, he supposes.
His theory is swiftly disproved when the radio station he insists on using to flagellate himself is interrupted by the chime of a notification.
He wants to close it immediately. Silence it, take the battery out, throw it out of the window and directly into the neighbors’ building wall facing his room. I’d be easier, he thinks, so he doesn’t allow that.
In this poor room, the one that prevents people from tracking him down, you find him through the screen. His heart drops at the call disappearing, followed by the text you send him.
Part of him knows he should answer to make sure his mask can continue intact for the most part. Play safe, reassure you, say he’s almost done and everything is doing great. Unfortunately, ever since his mask didn’t work on you on the first night you both met, he refused to pick it up again — so it simply doesn’t fit him anymore, not comfortably, not in a way he can pretend you are buying it.
Dick turns around on the bed, pulling the covers away from his body as he forces himself to sit up. He should be out there, fixing this mess and not overthinking a text message.
He should be out there, he thinks, fingers hovering the call button and cowardly running down the side of his phone to type a message instead.
He should be out there.
“Where are you?” You ask, first things first, but your tone is light enough that it pulls a tired laugh out of him.
Noticing it sounds odd is the second thing you do. Dick’s voice is hoarse despite the hour, exasperated and deeply tired. You’d recognize that tone from nights he came back after fighting with someone from his family, but Babs had assured you he had not been contacting any of them either, so that isn’t it.
He’s exhausted. The realization weighs more than it should, as most things do with him.
“Good try,” he says, because it’s the only answer he has got to give you. He knows if he tries to say anything else, he will give away anything you ask of him.
“Stubborn ass.” You answer, because it is what he is. At least this much hasn’t changed. “Have you been sleeping?”
“Enough.”
“Eating?”
“Enough.”
There’s a pause on your side. God, you wish he wasn’t that harsh on himself. This way you’d have a heart to scold him for it, but instead, he leaves yours shattered on your palms by his tone alone.
“I don’t like that,” your voice is lower now.
Dick hums on the other side of the call. You hear the loud squeak of a bed, probably giving away by his weight when he finally leans back — and despite his real bed not doing any of this in all the years you’d call him, he sighs in relief, as if finally comfortable now.
“I don’t either,” he whispers before another pause.
You don’t say anything after that, because you know that calling him was already a huge effort and there’s nothing in you that would like to push him further. He has been tested enough already.
As long as he knows you’re here, caring even more than he does himself, it should be enough. Not good, but enough.
And Dick has been content with enough lately, so you start: “I’ll let you get b-”
“Do you want to hear about the case?” He interrupts you quickly before he can change his mind, accompanied by the sound of him moving again.
The bed is loud when he gets up, the way he frantically moves papers on the other side is louder, but none of them are enough to distract you from the jump of your heart against your chest.
“Copycat?” He calls, and you laugh to distract yourself from the burnt sensation behind your eyes.
“Yeah, I’m here.” You finally sit down after pacing the apartment for the last hour, muscles easing as you hear his breath even out on the other side. “Walk me through it?”

Nightwing's priorities doesn't seem to fall into place lately. Most, if not all of them, get buried under the case files.

The worst and best part about moving in with
DICK GRAYSON is that he refuses to let go.
How could he? Anytime you’re both off-duty, he has you within arm's reach – and by God, does he take advantage of it.
You were always his first thought in the morning, but now he is able to wrap his arms around you at the start of every day and ask for a few more minutes (which you both always take – you start setting your alarm half an hour early). He is always thinking about you, now he gets to pull you into a kiss every time you walk past your shared (he insists on saying it) living room. You always had a hard time deciding what to eat on date nights, now it’s easier since you both do groceries together.
Cooking dinner doesn’t feel like a chore anymore, nor does cleaning the house or running errands. Richard is a simple man who insists on having his hands around you every chance he gets.
The days are still tiring, they will always be. Patrol still takes a lot of his time, but it’s so much better to make up for it when he has you to come home to.
You might insist he doesn’t need to, that he should rest, but how could he? His hands find you instinctively by now – slowly pulling your underwear to the side as he kisses your smile into something softer. Dick gets to hold you while you fall apart from the way his fingers curl inside you, swallowing your words that slowly turn more intelligible by the second. They echo through your shared living room, and somehow, encourage him to keep going, even when exhaustion threatens to take over, even when you're both already spent.
The giggles you share, your breath catching against his, the kiss he presses to your neck just to make you laugh harder before you finally manage, “Welcome home, Dick,” as he eases you back into the nearest surface.
