my rant contains spoilers (text and screenshots) for tpot after ones appearance.
also i do love all of the algebraliens including four and one. loving ≠ accepting their actions.
this rant isnt meant to undermine anyones opinions. pls dont hate or harrass me for anything that u may disagree with. enjoy :P.
ONE WASNT NERFED (in my opinion)
ive seen a few ppl dislike how one was portrayed in this episode; weak, aka nerfed.
personally i dont think one was nerfed at all. she was enraged and out of her mind. there were scenes where she was shown to be confused as too many things were happening.
before we continue, lets take a look at her past. she was ignored by the other algebraliens untill her encounter with the yoylelite. but even then, three unintentionally took the glory for herself, making one get outcasted yet again. from ones past you could clearly see how immature she was. she doesnt think twice before doing anything and ended up damaging three big time.
when she was in the moon, she had been thinking about revenge without a second thought. she didnt think to change or apologize.
in a way the other algebraliens (four mostly) were also at fault. but she chose not to change. infact, her brash attitude got worse bcuz of her time in the moon.
now back to the present. in tpot 23, you can see how clouded and troubled her mind was. she wasnt built for so much power and those scenes show how inexperienced she is with this much power.
"oh but she can destroy planets and has caused so much damage with just her power."
extreme power ≠ higher iq
shes immature, bold and brash. she has no idea how to use this much power and she has no one by her side.
are you guys forgetting the scene where she couldnt even get leafy to talk, she couldnt handle how unexpected leafy was and gave up on her completely.
"oh but she was nerfed there too."
ones entire character is about how childish she is. and i dont mean that in a harsh, mean way or in an infantilizing way. she has had barely any good life experiences and she wants revenge and revenge only (wow ice cube uve got quite the competition).
also four isnt wrong here despite some major flaws in what he thinks of her. one is not evil, but shes not good either. both four and one have yet to learn about owning up to their mistakes.
what four did was wrong and was not the best way to handle things and it did trigger one to be this way. four isnt the only cause of her behaviour ofc. tpot 20 was alot for one and every other algebralien there. it was traumatic. its just disappointing that four chose to lock her away, but it does add up to how he treated the exitors. he also didnt change much. tho thats probably bcuz of his horrible memory (still cant be entirely excused). one IS selfish and she IS doing things thinking shes in the right. maybe she is, thats up to u guys. but whats shes doing is wrong.
also imo, saying one was nerfed kind of means shes been nerfed since her appearance. tho thats the thing, thats her CHARACTER.
i think my main critique for tpot 23 was how fast the pacing was. one showed up out of nowhere n i did not know what to expect lol. overall i rlly liked the ep, its ok if any of u guys didnt like it obvi.
