Throughout her many long years at Briarcliff, it was no surprise that Remington had developed her own daily routines. But, to say that the living only altered that a little would have been an understatement. She had practically built her new “life” around the breathers and their habits. Particularly the ones she was fond of.
And Isla was no exception. The two had been friends for as long as Remi could remember. Hell, she’d probably met her just after move-in day. It was easily noticed that they fell into a familiar pattern rather quickly, and had been damn near inseparable since.
On this particular day, afternoon rather, the blonde was click-clacking her heels against the halls more quickly than usual, as she made her way up to Isla’s dorm, letting herself in and plopping down on the corner of the sleeping brunette’s bed.
“Isla!” She chimed, though her voice was more alarmed than usual. “Wake up! You missed lunch!” For Remington, missing a meal was never an issue. Being dead kind of took care of that. But, she didn’t see how a breather could ever turn away the taste of food, after losing that ability herself. Plus, she had been excited to spend the bright day out in the front lawn, nibbling on sandwiches she didn’t enjoy with a girl she did. Reaching out, she shook her a little, shoving her once and pulling away the blankets. “Wake up!”
The sound of her name being called pulled her from her peaceful dreamless state, she'd been so tired since she got back to school, being at home was difficult ever since her father decided he wanted to be senator again. Most of her summer days which she wanted to spend relaxing and catching up on studying were completely stolen from her. Instead she had to help her father with his campaign. It's something she was used to, having dealt with his campaigns her whole life, but this time it was different. Being around her family was different, it was emotionally draining, she was forced to listen to her parents drone on about ideals and politics that she herself no longer believed in. The whole ordeal was made a thousand times worse by the tremendous amount of guilt she felt she was lying to everyone and the weight her lies were starting to drown her. Every time her father would mention how 'proud of her' he was her or how wonderful it was that she was following in her footsteps, she'd beg ground to open up and shallow her. Needed to say that her time spent home was stressful, leaving her with barely any sleep.
Isla groaned squeezing her eyes tighter clinging to the comfort the darkness brought her. She was desperate for a few seconds more of relaxation, away from all her responsibilities. "Rem. It's early." She choked out, completely ignoring everything her friend had said, Isla wasn't aware she'd missed breakfast or lunch. food was the last thing on her mind these days.
She didn't open her eyes until her warm blankets were ripped from her body, she winced as a wave of cold air washed over her. "Give me!" She whined reaching, helplessly for her stolen sheets, noticing Remi's look of determination she knew it was hopeless. With a huff the girl sat up stretching her arms over her head and shaking out her tousled hair. Isla had missed Remi over break more than words could ever describe, she would always miss her but somehow it had been worse this time. It was the little things she missed the most, like Remi's endless pestering about how she worked too hard, or how she wasn't taking care of herself. With no one else to tell her to take a break, she rarely had times for things like food and sleep.
After a second of comfortable silence Isla let her eyes trace over her friend taking in every small detail, her eyes moved down her face, to her chest, her stomach, legs, moving lower and lower until they reached the floor. When she looked back up, she had a bright smile on her face, she was finally back at school a place she considered more of a home than her real one these days. "You win I'm up, what is it?"
