This scene in the Sherlock: The Untold Stories special!

When the restaurant owner came to Wakamiya's flat and made him food and told him he was opening a new restaurant and Wakamiya and Shishio really had to come... when Shishio was missing at that time, suspected dead... The way Wakamiya just froze for a moment and then tried to smile and promise that, yeah, yeah, they would come...

I love this drama so much. When you watch it, it doesn't seem like much, that's true, but after the special, when you look back, there's so much food for thought there, things that the drama didn't really delve into but I would just adore to explore in fics.

Like the hints that Shishio kept dropping that maybe Wakamiya should see a psychiatrist because he was way too easily hurt, the way Wakamiya then broke down after Shishio's apparent death or the fact that at the end of the special, Wakamiya pretty much molded himself after Shishio, taking over his mannerism and even the way Shishio dressed.

Or just how far Shishio - who always seemed so uncaring - went to keep Wakamiya away from Moriya; seriously, he even got Wakamiya arrested once to make sure he and Moriya never crossed ways. And the goodbye letter to Wakamiya where he said that he would make sure that Wakamiya couldn't follow him.

And then there was Inspector Eto who finally put a stop to the search for Shishio because, like Detective Kogure said, if he did not do that, Wakamiya would wait for Shishio forever...

I just can't stop thinking about this drama. There was so much unexplored potential there, it's just ripe for fics! I haven't written anything in ages but, gosh, do I adore to explore the really dark stuff...

You know what I loved about Sherlock: The Untold Stories? How they all basically "adopted" Wakamiya Junichi.

When they first met him, Wakamiya was their prime suspect in a murder case. But then he piqued Homare Shishio's interest - and at the end of the first episode, Shishio moved in with "Wakamiya-chan" - Junichi protested very loudly, of course. Then Shishio dragged him with to the mortuary - while Junichi was still protesting very loudly - and it wasn't because Shishio saw that Wakamiya-chan was slowly sinking into depression, of course not.

And then, Inspector Eto and Detective Kogure just sorta got used to Wakamiya being Shishio's "plus one". Like everywhere. Inspector Eto even started calling him "Waka-chan" at the end. And after Shishio's "death", they still let Wakamiya tag along - see the special. And again, it wasn't because they were worried about him, of course not.

I also loved the slight shift in Shishio's attitude when Moriya started being involved in their cases. At the beginning, Shishio simply took Wakamiya-chan everywhere with him, he let Wakamiya drive him on his bike etc. But then, whenever Shishio realized that their case was linked to Moriya, he cleared Wakamiya away, sending him on a wild goose chase etc., once he even went as far as getting him arrested just to make sure Wakamiya would not get involved.

In the course of the drama, you don't realize that's what Shishio has been doing, it's not till the special and his flippant goodbye message to Wakamiya-chan that you look back and you see it, that Shishio was doing his best to keep Wakamiya off Moriya's radar, making him seem unimportant, just a lackey, not a friend because Shishio doesn't have friends, after all. And, you know, no wonder, because the one time Moriya did notice Wakamiya? His little smile? Creepy!

Yeah, I might be thinking about this drama way too much 🤷🏻‍♀️
