Mick Mundy sighed as he led his horse into town. Van had lost a shoe during a bit of trouble, but Mundy knew the local blacksmith and was certain he could get a good price and have his horse back in a minimal amount of time.
He noticed people eyeing him, and he didn’t blame them. He was tall and wore a long leather overcoat that swished around his legs without tripping him up. A sniper rifle was strapped to his back in full view. Basically, he looked dangerous.
There was something happening down the street. A young man was being held at gunpoint. Now, Mundy was not the heroic type, but he was pretty sure that he could clear this up with minimal effort on his own part.
He dropped down onto one knee while swiftly pulling his weapon off his back. Sighting down the barrel of his rifle, he pulled the trigger and the gunman down the street fell to the ground with bullet in his skull.
“Oh my god, you’ve been shot. Did you catch a look at the handsome rogue what did it?” He muttered mockingly as he lowered his weapon, paying no more attention to the young man he just saved.
Sniper delivered Van to Dell, and, after a short conversation, paid the Texan and left. He considered just ditching the kid and hiding out somewhere until Dell was done with Van... but he couldn’t do that. Jeremy was talkative enough to get on Mundy’s nerves, but the sniper was a man of his word. He said he would meet the kid at the saloon, so he would have to live through having a drink with him.
The saloon was a small one, so Jeremy wasn’t difficult to pick out of the so-called crowd. “Hey, kid.” He greeted as he sat down next to the younger man. “They serve anything good here?”
