Hey! Sorry I'm so slow with tags right now, I'm moving this week and there might be a gap in my internet starting tonight? shouldn't be long though and I might try to tag from my phone but...semi-hiatus until next week?

"Professor Ackerman? You in there?"
Looking up from his desk, Levi quickly removed his reading glasses and stowed them into the top drawer. He looked at the clock hanging on the wall and straightened his papers, placing them in a neat stack out of the way. “Come in and close the door behind you,” he said, bidding the the student enter.
“How you stir isn’t the important part,” Levi said, leaning back in his chair. “You should be asking why you stir particularly. Have you looked up the section on moonstone and its properties? Cross-research your other ingredients too and learn the common components they add to various brews.” Taking her textbook, he flipped through the pages of the chapter before snapping it closed and handing it back to her. “The numbers aren’t significant on their own, but when you take the ideal mixing method for each ingredient and factor combination using the mathematical equations for potions, it makes more sense. That’s really not something you will get into until Advanced Potion-Making, so don’t worry about it for now. I’m really asking why it’s so important to follow directions more generally; Fifth Years need to learn why you ought to be precise and how to do so instead of the nature of the reactions that cause the consequences themselves. Does that make any sense?”
"Oh. Yeah, a lot actually." Maybe she should ask teachers for help more often. "Thank you very much, sir." So, it was really just a bunch of math? She actually wasn’t too bad at math. Maybe if she thought of potions like that she could do better? Certainly worth a try. “Really, thanks.”
“Thank me by working hard and not exploding your cauldron in my classroom,” Levi grumbled, mostly to cover his fluster at being thanked so sincerely. He was glad to have been able to help though, since many of his explanations were often met by blank stares and slack mouths. “If you have any more trouble you may swing by Tuesday and Thursday afternoons during tutoring and make-up sessions and get in some practice.”
"Professor Ackerman? You in there?"

Levi relaxed inwardly a little, glad it was an academic question rather than anything difficult. He really hated trying to relate to anybody, but most especially teenagers. “It’s not a bother, it’s my job,” he told her bluntly. “What would you like to know?”
"Well, one of the questions you had listed was the consequences of not following the directions precisely." She carefully sat down in one of the chairs and brought out her textbook to the page marked. "I think I’ve managed to figure out why some things with the ingredients would make it dangerous, but I can’t find anything for some of the things? Like the precise way you have to stir?" Along with the potion’s obsession with the number seven. Seven stirs clockwise. Seven stirs counter-clockwise. Simmer for seven minutes. What was so great about the number seven anyway? "So, I was wondering why that was so important for the draught?" And whoever thought it was hilarious to make the ‘Draught of Peace’ so freaking complicated and stressful to make, she had a few choice words for.

As Erwin left his office and walked down the dark corridor, he noticed a very familiar backside of someone pacing further up ahead. With no students around, why not take the opportunity to indulge his playful side? Taking quick steps, Erwin was soon right behind the shorter man and promptly bumped shoulders with him. "Ugh," he feigned annoyance and then surprise, "Oh, Levi, where did you come from, didn't even see you there?"
Unaware of his pacing, Levi was deep in thought. He’d received a letter earlier in the day that had preoccupied him even somewhat through his first block of classes, but now that he did have some time for mulling, he found that it really wasn’t getting him anywhere particular. Suddenly rousted as someone knocked into his shoulder, Levi jumped noticeably and tried to hide it with a scowl that would have been much more intimidating had the interrupter not been a ridiculous giant. “Irwin,” he said, looking up. Damn the man, how could somebody so huge walk around quiet as a cat? “That’s because you weren’t looking where you were going,” Levi replied dully, though the glint of humor in his eyes betrayed his annoyed tone.
Levi thought about the letter, under his pillow, unopened. He frowned. “I was trying to decide something. It’s none of your business.” He shifted his weight and crossed his arms, trying for irked rather than anxious. It seemed like a good time to change the subject. “Are you just roaming about knocking into people or are you headed somewhere specific?”
He could tell Levi definitely had his mind preoccupied. And such was always typical of the man. Here Levi would be, seemingly listening and looking at him but his mind would always appear to be elsewhere, miles away. Erwin began to speculate the reason he had become so sensitive to Levi’s habit was because it was growing into a pet peeve of sorts. Levi was just always mysterious and Erwin although usually not the curious type, couldn’t help it in this case.
He decided he’d give it one last go before dropping it. “I only knock into people who deserve getting knocked into,” he quipped, “but you know…you can always talk to me if something is on your mind.”
“On what authority do you make that kind of judgement?” Levi scowled wryly, though the retort was more for the point of it rather than an actual question. He shrugged and averted his eyes from the taller man then, scanning the hallway for nothing in particular. It surprised him in that moment to realise that he probably really could talk to Erwin if he wanted; the permission not the surprising part, but that the Ravenclaw was so easy to talk to that the idea wasn’t as laughable as it seemed coming from anyone else. “It’s not interesting,” Levi said, still not terribly inclined to explanations. “And you didn’t answer the question before.”

She did as he asked, and looking around the room. Even neater than she expected. Even his PAPERS were perfectly orderly, and she rarely saw that on a teacher’s desk. “Sorry to bother you, sir,” she said after a moment. Professor Ackerman wasn’t exactly known for being the most personable of teachers, but she was determined to do at least decently in his class this year. Partly to try and move on, and partly to… make up for the horrible accident last year. Completely ruined her pot. “I had a question about the essay on the Draught of Peace.”

"Guess I wasn’t paying attention," Erwin murmured as unnecessarily straightened his cloak. "So tell me," he said as he glanced down at Levi, realizing that his scowls never really looked like scowls the more he stared, "what had you thinking so hard that you didn’t even hear me coming around?"
