âIâm a little older than some, I know,â Dhani gave a shrug, though hardly seemed embarrassed by that confession himself. He had a very valid reason for skipping what would normally be college years for a student that had done as well as he had in high school. He would not have traded any of it.
Dhaniâs smiled broadened at the mention of the man infront of him being a Lit professor. And noticed the professor seemed more nervous than anything. On edge. Dhani appreciated that, welcomed it even. It meant the man had feeling, anxious or otherwise. It was a good thing. Dhani had been an absolute mess on his own arrival; the collar he wore around his neck was nearly a year old, a little sun bleached and cracked from salt water and spending as much time as he could this summer on the beach, when they were given the whole day and not just an hour to themselves.
âWell, um, thereâs on campus stuff, like the library, places like that or kind of off campus stuff? Like Qhuinnâs bakery or Ravenâs tea shop or the beach? What would you like to see first? And,â Dhani made a sweeping gesture with his hand, âany questions you want to ask, please, feel free. I remember when I first came I had someone just bluntly tell me the worst of everything, so I donât intend to repeat that experience with others.â
His eyes lit up at the mention of a library. âThereâs a library here? Well, of course, there is, I mean this is a school...â he continued excitedly, half talking to himself. Amidst the chaos that had been moving in and then realizing how much he had left behind, the thought hadnât occurred to him. He could already envision himself spending hours in the library, reading and checking papers. Already, he felt much better.Â
Hearing the otherâs offer, Dougal nodded, replying, âWhy, thank you. Thatâs very gracious of you. Iâd love to see the library first, actually.â He beamed at Dhani, already excited to see the campus. âThe...worst of everything? Like what?â he asked, not sure if he even wanted an answer.
