Asperger’s Syndrome (Level 1 Autism Spectrum Disorder)
Asperger’s Syndrome, now known as Level 1 Autism Spectrum Disorder, is one of 5 types of ASD. Level 1 ASD is characterized by the inability to express ones emotions, difficulty interacting with peers, and having vast knowledge in certain topics. The syndrome is commonly found in those who are higher functioning.
Is ASD contagious?
Hello and thank you for your question! No ASD is not contagious! It is a neurological disorder that can be inherited genetically (through a mutation of cells) or happen spontaneously in others.

Autism Spectrum Disorder : What is it?
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a disorder that causes an impairment in the ability to communicate and interact. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), ASD is reported to impact 1 in 44 children in the U.S. in 2021, and reported by the World Health Organization (WHO) to impact 1 in 100 children in the world. ASD characteristics are different and varies, the environment they are in can also impact this greatly. Along with ASD, some children may experience coexisting mental issues such as anxiety, depression, and attention hyperactive disorder (ADHD).
About me (Owner) : Laniya Martin is a high school senior at Dr. Henry A. Wise Jr. High School apart of the Biomedical Science program at her school. The creation of this blog is stemmed from an idea for her upcoming capstone project. They dedicated this blog to raise awareness about ASD with an interest rooted from real life connections with those who have ASD and their families. Martin envisions that even though this is a small gesture, there will be a huge impact in the future where those with ASD are respected and have a safe space where they are free of judgement.
