It wasn’t your fault
May you blossom again, when you are burnt out. P.S. I dated the piece wrong and wrote 2016 instead of 2017. My bad!
A reminder: you are alive.
twitter stay verifying pedos tho
“Healing is our birthright. It was not our birthright to be sexually harassed or assaulted or raped … (but) it is our birthright to know in our bones that it wasn’t our fault. We humans hurt each other and sometimes we hurt ourselves, but we can make decisions and take actions that free us.” - Ashley Judd
Tweet from @kellyblaus: JUST BECAUSE A GIRL IS OPENLY SEXUAL DOES NOT MEAN SHE WANTS TO BE SEXUAL SPECIFICALLY WITH YOU
You didn’t deserve it. You weren’t “asking for it.”
Today is Canada’s National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. It marks the anniversary of the Montreal Massacre, where women studying at the École Polytechnique were targeted and murdered. 14 women died. These are their faces, their smiles, their joy. In Canada, violence against women continues to be a problem. Half of all women in Canada have experienced at least one incident of physical or sexual violence since the age of 16 according to research done by the Canadian Women’s Foundation. And every six days in Canada, a woman is killed by her intimate partner (CWF). In addressing violence against women, we shouldn’t feel that progress from the past means that the work is done. There is still more to do. These statistics also do not reflect the disproportionate targeting of Black and Indigenous women by racist misogynists. It does reflect the realities of trans women, queer women, of women with disabilities, of women without homes, of women with mental illness, of women who are newcomers and refugees. The further society pushes you to the margins, the more vulnerable you become to violence. Violence against women happens across cultures, languages, and socioeconomic statuses. It often happens behinds closed doors, and is rarely reported because the police are also perpetrators of institutional misogyny and racism. When we talk about violence against women, we must talk with compassion, with nuance and understanding of the various intersections in identity, and in a way that is survivor-centric. Every story is different, and the pain from all of them is valid and real. Let us take a moment today to remember.

“But I really want to” “But I asked nicely so you’re supposed to say yes” “But I waited a long time so you have to let me” These are things that the 4-year-old I babysit tells me, when he wants to climb on my back or play with my hair. It makes sense for him to think like this, because he’s four. This is the mentality of a very small child who does not yet understand that other people’s bodies are their own.
If you’re a grown man applying this logic to something as adult as sex, there’s something very, very wrong with how you’ve learned to see the world. And also? You shouldn’t be having sex at all until you get your shit figured out.
May every year take you further from trauma and closer to healing.
