"Dianna Agron’s birthday is one week away, and the "Glee" star's birthday has been turned into an opportunity to raise money for the Somaly Mam Foundation in effort to fight human trafficking.
Dianna, who’s been Tweeting updates on her birthday campaign, was happy to share how much money has been raised through a group of fans, Project Let Love Reign.
Somaly Mam, the founder of the organization, was trafficked herself as a young girl in Cambodia. Now she helps girls who have been trafficked, and describes all of this in her book, The Road of Lost Innocence. Dianna has visited the foundation in Cambodia, and her fans wanted to join in. "In honor of Dianna's birthday, we have decided to extend our efforts toward helping to raise much-needed funds for The Somaly Mam Foundation," Project LLR posted to the donation site. While any bit helps, Dianna’s link give some specifics on what donations can do -- for example, a $30 donation can supply a medical exam for someone who’s been rescued from trafficking. On top of that, they've also set up an online store of goodies and the proceeds go to SMF.
Trafficking might seem like a distant and surreal thing, but it’s estimated that as many as 27 million people are modern-day slaves. When it comes to taking action to help, Dianna and her fans are in good company -- I interviewed Shay Mitchell specifically on her involvement with SMF, and AnnaLynne McCord told me about it and other forms of activism she does.
Birthdays don’t just have to be about cakes and presents -- as Dianna's fans show, they can also be an opportunity to shine a light on a global issue and get together the funds to help fix it.

As an individual who has studied human rights law, I find it quite shocking that there are people in this world who are still fighting for basic human rights. No, I’m not referring to those children being murdered in Pakistan by United States’ drones or the masses of civilians trying to stay alive in Syria; I’m talking about those fighting for marriage equality in the United States of America.
Americans (and even some other people in the world) consider the United States to be the greatest nation on Earth. What makes it so great? The nation is in a deficit which it cannot climb out of. The unemployment rate is so ridiculously high that one cannot imagine how many families are going hungry every single day. There are houses sitting empty just because the banks don’t want to lend a helping hand. However, what I find to be one of the most ridiculous and shocking facts of all is that this nation - the nation which thinks that it is the greatest nation of all - doesn’t even afford its own citizens basic human rights. The United States of America is not the greatest nation on Earth. Not even close.
When it was decided that the state would be separate from the Church, it meant that the laws of that state should not be reflective of any religion. Unfortunately, this very simple concept has been lost on many Americans. Due to the fact that you live in a secular state, you cannot infringe on anyone’s human rights just because your religious beliefs do not match theirs.
Everyone has been granted the freedom of speech and the freedom of religion but this does not mean that your religious beliefs trump basic human rights. You have the right to believe whatever you’d like, but the moment that you think your beliefs should apply to anyone other than you, you’re wrong.
If you’re a man and you don’t want to marry a man, that’s fine. All the more power to you. But, if you’re a man who wants to stop a man from marrying another man, you have to take a step back and stop concerning yourself with someone else’s personal life. Now, you may think that this lifestyle is ruining your life but here’s some news for you: people don’t have to listen to your opinions about their personal lives.
Every single person has a right to marry whomever they wish. If their actions do not sit well with your religious beliefs, that’s not their fault. They may not agree with your beliefs but you are entitled to them, just as they are entitled to theirs.
Thus, as the eloquent Pierre Elliott Trudeau once said, “[t]he state has no business in the bedrooms of the nation.”

So, we have passed our half-way mark and raised over $3,200 for our campaign benefiting the Somaly Mam Foundation, in honour of Dianna Agron's birthday! We have been telling all of you that we have a big announcement and here it is: WE ARE CLIMBING A MOUNTAIN AND YOU'RE ALL INVITED!
Yes, that's right! A couple of our cause leaders are planning on climbing a mountain when we hit the $6,000 mark in our campaign and all of you are invited! We have not yet made a decision on which mountain we are climbing, so we are open to suggestions (let's stick to the United States of America, at the moment). As everyone knows we launched all of our products for the Dianna Agron Birthday Project on Valentine’s Day, before the launch a total of $1,720 had been raised for the cause. After an incredible weekend of sales and the amazing folks at Faberry Con, I am so blown away and amazed to say that a total of $3,230 has been raised!

Wildlife Waystation: Dianna Agron Project
Hey guys! As everyone knows we recently ran a campaign for the Wildlife Waystation and over $9,000 has been raised to date. The Wildlife Waystation is a great organization and they have some incredible animals at their facility. Even though we are not actively campaigning at this time, we wanted to let you know there are several ways that you can help support them and one of those ways is by sponsoring one of their many animals!
You can choose from over 30 species and if you know of a particlar animal by name, you can request it and you can sponsor them! It is just $120 for the year or $10 a month to help sponsor an animal. You’ll receive a picture of your animal as well as an info sheet on them and you’ll also be featured in their monthly magazine.
As a holiday gift, the causes team got together and we sponsored Rowdy the capuchin monkey in Dianna’s name for the year. We all also are sponsoring our own animals, mine is a gorgeous male Jaguar named Tabu!

Hi guys! We’re here to officially launch the Dianna Agron Birthday Project benefiting the Somaly Mam Foundation! As you all know, Dianna made a trip to Cambodia back in December and visited the Somaly Mam Foundation. From their website:
“The Somaly Mam Foundation is a nonprofit organization committed to ending modern slavery and empowering its survivors as part of the solution. Human trafficking, a multi-billion dollar industry, is the fastest growing criminal enterprise in the world. With an estimated two million women and children sold into sexual slavery each year, it is a global crisis that must be stopped.”
In the past, we have raised over $9,000 for another of Dianna’s favorite non-profit organizations, Wildlife Waystation. In honor of Dianna’s birthday, we have decided to extend our efforts toward helping to raise much-needed funds for The Somaly Mam Foundation. The website notes that it costs roughly $3,000 “to rescue and recover one victim of the commercial sex industry and help her to build a life of dignity and independence.” Please take a moment to note that this is the amount required to assist only ONE woman out of the many women that the Somaly Mam Foundation aids in fostering a better future for themselves and their families. As such, our starting goal for this campaign is $6,000 – enough to help two women (long-term) through the efforts of the Somaly Mam Foundation.
