SUN COMES OUT

The fleeting sunlight of grey days behind Rinses the room of the darkness upon us. A gentle breeze calls me to the window. I hold out my hand to survey the conditions.

Swinging blinds splinter the blue sky As I lose myself in the inviting Warmth of our benevolent star. Long was the wait for her to re-appear.

I turn to my frail mother And declare the shadowy chill broken. “Finally.” She at long last whispers.

She locks me in a stretched out gaze, Looking long into my eyes, silent, One last time, Forever.

PERSPECTIVE

Our friend Léonore did the french translation of this text and when she did so her words inspired me to make changes to the English version. She was so correct when she expressed that there is a never ending oscillation between writing and translating. What a fun collaboration!

Sécurité, ahhh la sécurité.

S’il y a un mot qui est gonflé plus gros

Que la taille de son écrit,

C’est le mot sécurité.

Sécurité ?

Un mot dans le dictionnaire,

Un mot plus grand qu’ordinaire,

Seulement un mot dans notre vocabulaire.

La sécurité, un mot,

Du texte mis en contexte

Entre perceptions opposantes.

Réalité ? Ahhh…

Est-ce opposante ou semblante ?

Comment puis-je former un juste opinion ?

Trouveras-tu de la contradiction ?

Bien trop de questions.

Tu écoutes les actualités ?

Tu regardes la télé ?

Son et image

Fragmenté par la télécommande.

Les habitudes d’inattention.

Change le canal de la télévision.

Ahhh…

Divertissement.

Pas seulement des mots…

Ces images nous montrent

le dommage de nos actions.

Est-ce la perception ?

Moi je ne sais pas.

J’ai que des questions.

L’incertitude de la sécurité,

Mot gonflé, chaque journée.

Circonstances ? Expériences ?

Les mots qui propagent les pensées.

Je pose la question…

Doit-on ignorer les sentiments attachés

Aux mots d’une pensée pas vécu soi-même ?

Ou, doit-on considérer ?

Il fait longtemps que nous, hommes, femmes,

Sommes prises avec la guerre.

Manque de capacité de résoudre les difficultés,

Manque de patience,

Réactions à l’incompréhension d’idées.

Conflit…

C’est quoi la réponse ?

Je ne sais pas.

On regarde les faits d’aujourd’hui

Comme ils n’existent pas parfois.

Image, son, vidéo, texte.

Transmission,

Consommation.

Conciliation ?

Crieurs du village

Nous informent le mieux qu’ils ou elles peuvent.

Comment réagir à cette embouteillement ?

T'es pas le seul à digérer ça.

Je considère qu’une certaine confiance entre nous

Peux faire une différence.

C’est un saut de s’exprimer.

N’est-ce pas une chose qu’on a tous le droit ?

Dès qu’on est né ?

De s’exprimer ?

Ahhh…Sensibilité.

C’est une autre chose ça.

ATTITUDE

I posted the French version of this poem yesterday with my personal attempt at translation. Shortly after posting it our friend Léonore was kind to point out the translation had several mistakes. I took it down right away and Léonore was super patient with me today as she helped me do a correct translation. Thank you Léonore for your amazing help!

We Discuss

C: We're collaborating on some poetry that you've written and combining that with some visuals that we’re creating together, and we've posted the first one and it's called Trust. What can you say about this?

B: A lot of the poems I've written are kind of a dialogue with my inner voice. Many were written at a time when I was going through a difficult time in my life, trying to make sense of what was going on. 

C: So this poem, Trust, what can you say about it?

B: "You catch me when I land on the moment your heart kicks in."  I guess what it is, is self-compassion. Giving yourself a break and not being so hard on yourself, knowing that, you have heart and that there's something in you that will always look out for you. 

C: That's a thing that's happened in your life... 

B: Yeah, there were times during the dark times of losing both parents in a short time period, going through a divorce, breakdowns, loss of employment etc., I kind of hit a bit of a low in my life. And when I would remember to go easy on myself it helped me keep going.  

C: That's good wisdom for all of us. 

B: It came from the fact that I had supportive people around me that were helping and caring for me at that time. Having that support allowed me to be able to reflect and actually practice self-compassion.

C: You discovered the power of a good support system.  

B: Yeah. And in the end I think you got to look out for yourself in a lot of ways but without the help of others that can be a lot more difficult.

C: What would you like people to know if they're going through hard times?

B: I think to understand that you're always hardest on yourself and to know that there's often someone out there that's willing to help you get back on track. Sometimes we need that extra bit of help to get there.
