Peter was a fucking marauder, just like James or Remus and Sirius didn’t hate any of them. 

Just because he ended up being a traitor doesn’t automatically negate the fact he was a Marauder, and one of their best friends.

It’s the most beautiful thing I have ever seen!” maybe not the best thing to say to his wife. “Guess I’m going with Joffrey. Besides. We can use it to practice for when we get a human one.”

“Does this look like child’s play?” he gripped his wand hard while his other hand held a knife. “We could always do it in the muggle way, obviously. Which is bloodier, slower… humiliating” he smirked and touched the other’s cheek with the blade. “Unless you decide stop being a bitch and cooperate.”

    “Presents can wait,” Lily said indignantly. It was incredible to her that her husband did not seem to take priority in the wonders of the snow. It was so dark outside that, looking up, the snow seemed to appear at the last minute out of the blackness before settling on the white blanket already on the ground. 

    But if he was so intent on not enjoying the snow; then she would just have to make him. And that, frankly, was all too easy. Unfortunately for James, he’d given up his jacket to Lily. And it was doubly unfortunate that Lily did not register he was without. And as he drew nearer to her, Lily reached out a hand and pulled him down into the snow, rather awkwardly. “The snow might not be here tomorrow! How can you not want to enjoy it now?”

Leave it to Lily to make them freeze at Christmas Eve when they could both be warm inside. What got worse when she pulled him down, increasing his contact with the devil snow. “Bloody hell Lily, since when do you love cold this freaking much?” he inquired, smiling all the same as this was just too amusing to himself. Frankly, he hated it. Cold, that is. It was painful, uncomfortable and far too limiting. A clear, blue and sunny sky was his favourite thing to wake up to in the mornings. 

But as he learned far ago, it was better to just go along with Lily’s ideas, even her drunk ones. “Here” James raised his wand, pointed at the ground and murmured a quick spell that sent sparkles into the snow, lighting up a small fire that looked like it was limited by an invisible dome; enough to warm them both even if just a little while not risking any burns. “I would rather not die frozen, thank you very much” the corner of his lips were curved up a little as he said that, his fingers playing with the fire.

headcanon that in fourth year snape saw james giving remus a back massage after the full and was like ‘haha are you guys boyfriends? haha’

it was totally supposed to be an insult but james, completely straightfaced, went ‘yes… remus and i are lovers’

so from that day on, it was an ongoing joke between the two that they were in love

like, remus would enter transfiguration late and see james paired off with peter and shout ‘wHAT DID I DO TO DESERVE THIS BETRAYAL JAMES POTTER? I THOUGHT YOU LOVED ME AND YET YOU KEEP CHEATING ON ME’ and mcgonagall is like ‘lupin sit down how did i ever think you were the sane one’

and whenever remus entered the great hall, james would run up to him and kiss him on the cheek like ‘my love i missed you’

and sirius and peter totally played along with it like if someone asked ‘why does potter grab lupin’s arse whenever they hug????’ sirius would sigh and look off into the distance and be like ‘that’s the beauty of love my friend’

and then in fifth year sirius and remus start dating and they act all sappy and smoochy in the great hall pretty much at all times and james pretends to cry because ‘my one true love has been stolen from me, how can i ever love again…’

until one day where lily comes up to him and is like ‘stop crying potter i’ll date you ffs’ and james is just a blushing grinning dork tbh

and so, despite sirius and remus being absolutely adorable together, and despite jily being shipped by pretty much everyone, remus and james went down in history as the best couple in hogwarts

driving me crazy that people think James asked Lily twenty three thousand times out bc haven't they even SEEN how insecure he was about his crush on her in SWM?? wbu?

I mean at this point I just tend to surround myself with people who have healthy headcanons about the ship, but yeah, for a lot of reasons I find it a bit strange that it would’ve become such a pervasive idea, all things considered. Granted, the way he asks her out in SWM is awful, but what sticks out to me in SWM in particular is the fact Lily actually lists James’s flaws. She chooses the things about him she considers most annoying and makes a point of calling him out on it:

“Messing up your hair because you think it looks cool to look likeyou’ve just got off your broomstick, showing off with that stupidSnitch, walking down corridors and hexing anyone who annoys youjust because you can — I’m surprised your broomstick can get off theground with that fat head on it. You make me SICK.” (OOTP28)

Lily’s clearly not afraid to tell him what she thinks. Her jibes are all concentrated at his arrogance. Why wouldn’t his arrogance in assuming she’d want to go out with him make the list if he were doing it all the time, just like those other things? I don’t think SWM is evidence that asking her out was habitual for him. If anything, I think the little we see of them as teenagers shows that James was just a disaster at hiding his feelings. Doodling her name on parchment, deepening his voice around her, unable to school his face when she tells him he makes her sick. 

In TPT, Snape even blurts out that James fancies her, and Lily’s reaction is to raise her eyebrows. Snape seems to think it’s a Big Deal by the way the ‘words are wrenched from him against his will.’ Nothing seems to evidence that James was constantly begging her to go out with him. Only that if you paid attention, like James’s friends or even like Snape, you’d see that his particular brand of stupidity was sometimes concentrated on getting Lily to notice him.

Here and there, winning could be difficult with Moony. Patiently, James looked at him and measured his next words carefully. “Alright buddy, how about this” he supported his forearms on Remus’ desk and flashed one of his charming smiles. “Give yourself three hours of break. Let’s have some fun with the mates, then you can come back. You will get to relax and it might even be good for your studying, how about that hm?”
