Water Propulsion

Have ever seen a big fire hose spraying water? Then you may have noticed that it takes a lot of strength to hold the hose. The hose is acting like a rocket engine. The hose is throwing water in one direction, and the firefighters are using their strength and weight to counteract the reaction. Here we show you how water propulsion and air propulsion work together and give the bottle a thrust.

Air propulsion

When you blow up a balloon, you let it go and it flies all over the room before running out of air, you have created a rocket engine. In this case, what is being thrown is the air molecules inside the balloon. When you throw them out the nozzle of a balloon, the rest of the balloon reacts in the opposite direction.

Understanding how Spacecraft Propulsion works is easier than you think. The mechanism is based on Newton´s principle "to every action there is an equal and opposite reaction." In a rocket engine, hot exhaust gas is produced through the combustion of a fuel with an oxidizer. The hot exhaust gas flows through the rocket nozzle and is accelerated to the rear of the rocket. In re-action, a thrusting force is produced on the engine mount. The thrust accelerates the rocket as described by Newton's second law of motion.
