Korean Grammar - Conjunction Particle(접속 조사)
Hello everyone! This is Admin Sun here, today we’re going to talk about Conjunction particles! It’s the last category of the particles. Conjunction particles basically connect things. They are the particles that show that two words are the same status/state. It’s easy if you think of it as words like ‘and’.
Today I’m going to talk about basic conjunction particles that you need to know while learning Korean! Because in the end learning Korean is half learning all of our particles :D
There are three main conjunction particles I will talk about today! Just a warning though. All of them are translated into ‘and’. One is usually used in literary/Written style and the other two are mostly used in colloquial/spoken style. We’ll learn the literary style conjunction particle first!
1. 와/과 (usually used in literary style)
와/과 basically translates into ‘And’. For example, 책과 연필 translates into Book and Pencil. Like most particles this one has two forms, 와 being used after no final consonant and 과 being used if the word has a final consonant.
*Examples:
철수가 사과와 포도를 사요. (철수 buys apples and grapes)
식물이 잘 자라려면 물과 햇빛이 필요해. (For a plant to grow well it needs water and sunlight.)
*Differences from the adverbial marking particle 와/과
Noticing the difference from the adverbial marking particle 와/과 and the conjunction particle 와/과 can be hard. Even native speakers have a hard time. The adverbial particle 와/과 translates into ‘with’ and is usually used with words that mean together like 함께 or 같이. For example,
철수와 영희가 학교에 가다 (철수 and 영희 go to school)
In this sentence, the 와 is a conjunction particle.
철수가 영희와 함께 학교에 가다 (철수 goes to school together with 영희)
In this sentence, the 와 is NOT a conjunction particle but an adverbial particle.
Usually if there is no noun that comes after a 와/과 or if there is a 함께 or 같이 in the sentence it means it’s an adverbial particle and should be translated as ‘with’.
For more information on adverbial particles go to this post.
2.(이)랑 (Usually used in colloquial style)
(이)랑 also translates into ‘and’. If the word ends with a consonant then the form is 이랑, and if the word ends with a vowel the correct form is 랑. Unlike 와/과 which only sticks to the first noun, sometimes people stick (이)랑 to all the nouns as this one is usually used in conversation. For example,
나는 빵이랑 과일이랑 먹었다 (I ate bread and fruit)
3.하고 (Usually used in colloquial style)
This is also a particle that means ‘and’. It only has one form!
*Examples:
저기 그림하고 연필이 있다. (There is a drawing and a pen)
영희하고 민아가 걸어간다. (영희 and 민아 walk by)
That’s it for today’s lesson! I hope our lesson could help you learn Korean :D

reblog if you should be practicing
Hi guys I need help for adulting and becoming a hag
I'm pretty sure most of you are older than me. And like in college. I have some questions about said college.
Ok so imagine you're a struggling american high schooler with very little money and basically no way of paying for college other than scholarships. Where does one apply for said colleges. I know about the ones offered at individual colleges and the ones offered at my school. And I know that there are like scholarships offered by college board and different companies but what about other general scholarships. Where do you apply for those?
Pls help
Hello this is Nina, your local depressed college girl that’s decided to work on turning her life around and starting the new year with a more positive and happy attitude.
I know there a hundreds of similar lists and tips out there but I just thought I’d get all my favourites in one place and that way maybe motivate myself to actually follow them for once. I know my wording isn’t the best but I tried.
Here’s the few tips I’ve picked up so far and I hope they might help some of you if you are struggling a bit also:
Physical:
Space - your personal/work/study space plays a big role in making you feel productive and motivated. Doesn’t matter if its your dorm room, bedroom, office…you should make it your own as much as you can. Put a plant on your desk, get a nice picture for the wall, hang some fairy lights, get a fluffy blanket for your bed, repaint your walls in your favourite color if you can, just make it cozy and comfy and nice to look at and I guarantee you’ll start to feel better. Try to keep it clean and neat, I know it’s hard sometimes, but working in a clean space makes you ten times more productive.
Self care - start with physical things, drink those 8 glasses of water and keep a tab on it until you get used to it, use handcream everytime you wash your hands, put on moisturizer every morning and sunscreen when you go out, go for a walk around the park at least every other day, and for fucks sake go to sleep at a reasonable hour, you’ll be so grateful in the morning if you do. Show your body some appreciation.
Mental:
Take some ‘me’ time - we might we don’t have time for this, but it’s so important we make some time. First thing in the morning, during the day or before bed, just take a few minutes and relax. Put on your favourite song, burn a scented candle, drink a hot cup of tea, sit down and just breathe.
Be proud of yourself regardless - take that ‘me’ time and reflect on your day, pat yourself on the back for everything you did even if it was just getting out of bed. Life is a bitch sometimes and you should be just as proud of yourself for the little things. It’s okay to sometimes be lazy, to procrastinate, to not do anything. You aren’t a machine, you’ll burn out if all you do is work.
Appreciate the little things - on those lazy days it’s sometimes hard to not feel miserable about it. That’s when you should appreciate the little things in life. Get yourself that coffee you love so much and enjoy it, go to a roof, watch the sunset and appreciate the colors, take a photo of anything you find pretty and look back at them when you feel down…make yourself believe those moments made your whole day and suddenly it’ll feel like your life’s meaning isn’t just getting up and working/studying all the time, but enjoying everything you get to do and see in between too.
Other:
Find your interests - and stick to them!! We all like to give up on things if we aren’t immediately good at them. But no one was born an expert. And as cliché as it sounds practise does make perfect. Join a drawing class, a dance club, a writing class, get a course book on your target language, download editing softwear and play around with it, watch documentaries about your favourite subject. If you fall out of your hobby in the end it’s no big deal, but you’ll know you gave it a try and didn’t miss an opportunity to learn something new.
Journaling - this might not be for everybody, but I found it helps me clear my mind a lot to put my thoughts on paper and have everything organized in written form. I just love having all my things in one place where I can just look and see where I’m at, whether it’s plans for the day, my thoughts, my playlists, pretty pictures, anything really. It’s also a great way to be creative.
Start now - this is the most important one! Kick yourself in the ass and start taking care of yourself today! Get that glass of water right now, light a scented candle, read that book you’ve been putting off, watch that documentary about your favourite thing. Start enjoying your life right now, even if it’s only for a second, tommorow it’ll be two and three the day after and hopefully soon it’ll be a whole day.
Study Log [02/24/2020]
I got everything done! I'm very proud. And its before bedtime :D
I did like 4 pages of apush notes and finished up my english stuff and did all my chem homework. I still need to review for calc and bio but those will be my goals for tomorrow.
could you tell us about you electrocuting your entire physics class??? I'm a bit scared and curious
Because I’m in a good mood and you’re the first person I remember not just demanding I share, I will.
A dumb little “kid” science thing people like showing off is a Van der graaf generator - a mildly electrified ball you can put your hand on and you hair stands on end.
The major issue is you don’t want to accidentally ground yourself while doing so or you could get a nasty shock.
You can have a whole line of people, e.g., a high school physics class, one touching the generator and each one touching the next person, to get that mild static effect on everyone, AS LONG AS NO ONE TOUCHES ANYTHING METAL
The last person in line has to be the person everyone thinks is least likely to impulsively touch metal, or not be the sort of person who would cause themselves a mildly painful shock in order to electrify an entire classroom.
By virtue of being quiet, I was believed to be that person.
I was not.
So school right
Super mandatory and 100% needed and extremely efficient and superbly effective and without it the world would collapse. Idek. The school board needs to review public schooling. I wrote a whole leq in apush on everything but the topic but then related the last paragraph to the prompt and got a 100 on it. A complete waste of time. And omg chem is soooo boring. Like my teacher is really trying but she just can't get the class's attention and I feel so bad but I'm not helping her (sorry) and it's terrible. I study at home but never really do my homework but still score 5's on the AP scale. I feel terrible but that class is so easy I don't have to do anything except take the tests. Band is great though. Most people hate it because our director complains a lot and gets stuck over the littlest things but I don't mind. I like the class a lot actually (until the A/C breaks then I want to die). Bio is really chill I just have to study more because paying attention in class is not cutting it. Calc is terrible but that's just because I also need to study more (I've never had to study for math unless it was memorizing formulas so it's still new to me even though we're like 3/4 done already 😬🥴). Oh and english is straight up busy work. I have to study and learn all on my own. Which tbh is better because then I can make it more geared toward me.
Homework wise, I'm doing ok. I'm still behind on my chem assignments but it's not affecting my grade so it's on the back burner right now. I need to write up some history notes and finish up some calc work. Maybe study bio, if not I'll do it tomorrow. I already finished all my english stuff for now.
Oh and here's this weeks bujo:
(I still need to color it but otherwise here she is)
Study Log [02/23/2020]
Ok so I actually forgot but that's not the point. The point is that I did do my studying.
I speed read a whole book and finished up that assignment (~45 min) and then worked on my calc stuff (~30 min) and also made some food and tea (~15 min). So I do think I did pretty well.
humans really fuckin love squares huh
Rubix cubes are the single most top selling toys of all time.
Hi! It's been a terrible weekend
Ok so like I havent done ANYTHING productive so far. That's kind of a lie bc I did study my languages BUT school wise I havent done anything. So here I am. Gonna start my hw. Also, I think I'm getting sick :(((.
In fun news my friend and I are tryna sell a dress and so far we've had the most success on ebay but the buyer wanted a $300 ebay gift card??? And it was kind of sus so I'll keep you guys updated (also if you know if this is actually a scam pls tell me).
I'll be back with my study log.
Tips about Professors, student emails, and syllabuses (syllabi)
1- Once you get your syllabi put all of the due dates in your calendar
2- Make an assignment sheet for each class that you can look at throughout the year
3- Make a full assignment sheet with all due dates from all of your classes (organized by date)
4- Don’t be afraid to email your professors if you have a question that you can’t answer on your own
5- Be sure to send thank you emails to your professor when they help you with something
6- Don’t be afraid to go to your professor’s office hours. They exist for a reason (if you are not available during the professor’s office hours email them to find a time when you are both free)
7- Check your email! Seriously just do it! Check at least once a day!
this is part 1 of 6 links will appear as the rest of these are posted

Ok so update
I didnt do the apush notes but hey, I'm not going to class tmrw so it's fine. Instead i worked on our apush culture project and wrote up my code. I consider my culture project as notes since it's on what I'm studying so I'm pretty ok with that. The language will have to wait. I'm still working on getting myself back on schedule.
I'm going to bed now (it's like 00:06 rn). I always try to get my lovely 6 hrs of sleep but sometimes (like today) it's a little less. I already have lunch made for tmrw and only need ab 10 min to make breakfast. I just need to get, yk, out of bed in the morning.
I shall update again tmrw. In the meantime, heres a rly late update of my bujo weekly (plus random filters bc I'm bored):
Ok so I'm gonna try and get back into logging my study logs on here. I never did it much in the first place but seeing it online makes me feel a bit more accomplished. The goal for today is to write up some code, write up some apush notes, and mb study some languages.
Outside of school and languages, I wanted to also hit up my hobbies again. I'm feeling a lot better. J hit a bad low but I think I'm getting better finally. So here I am. I'm gonna pursue my dreams again :) . As for hobbies, I was gonna try and get back into dance and art. Reading would be great as well as writing. So we'll see how that goes. I'll try to update as much as I can but idk if I'll remember nor if I'll care enough in the moment to post ab it.
I will come back in a couple hours though with an update ab my study log.

Okay so I think I might be addicted to Sibelius Violin Concerto. I've been crying to the last movement a few times. The interpretation... I have no words, so emotional. This piece is the best thing that happened to me in January.
