Loving the shift towards vertical gardens, it's such a great aesthetic and practical solution to those who are limited with space and want something a little inspiring.

Andy Doig has been creating neon artworks since starting his apprenticeship in 1992.Now, from his own studio, under the arches on the Brighton seafront, he has create a huge portfolio of light-up installations that have been exhibited all over the UK and beyond.

These are pictures from Andy’s art installation Alphabet City which caught my eye on a visit to Brighton earlier this year. I love how the medium’s limitations has forced a range of character shapes and styles (note the outlined ‘i’ and ‘r’ verses the script ‘C’, ‘L’, ‘P’ and serif ‘d’ and ‘n’). It’s also amazing to see what a diverse spectrum of colour is possible.

“The idea came from a 1960’s child hood memory of playing with plastic alphabet building blocks.

None of the letters are recognised fonts, instead we worked to what the glass and space permitted, and of course like all neon it had to flow. During the final installation we began to notice how the colours and letter styles complimented each other.

Each letter has also been placed in a frame painted and gilded using traditional fairground techniques. So, each letter now has elements of light colour, font weight, style, and frame detail. It was fun playing with all these elements.”

Walked down Oxford St, Darlinghurst and stumbled across this amazing collection of books tucked away in BEAUTIFUL PAGES (Graphic design concept store). Such an inspiring store dedicated to the art of Graphic Design. Protohub loves you.

Our event  Cycle-O-Rama has rolled into town again. This year we've turned up the gears and are pedaling full throttle into our 2nd ever event.

Our event will run from the 10th-19th October with host to a selection of Bike/Art related components running over the course of the 9 days.

This year we are also feature highly on Sydney Rides (Sydney Council initiative) program. Scoring in pole position! Shine your bikes, strap in your boots and get ready for a wildly creative shindig. We're open to the public and encourage you to drop by and check it out.

Swing past for our art exhibition, day rides, swap meets, workshops and "turn down for what?!?!?!"... well our launch and wrap up parties, of course.

In August our very own designer Zev Bianchi (Bcompact), showcased a few of his latest designs at the WORKSHOPPED 14 Exhibition, held at the Supa Centa- Moore Park, Sydney. "WORKSHOPPED is an organisation that identifies great Australian design and brings it to local and international attention." We are honoured and forever grateful for the opportunity to showcase Zev's hard work and had a great time participating in the WORKSHOPPED 14 Exhibition. Zev showcased 'The Dom' desk lamp and the brass edition of the 'Dodecah Twist' facet pendant light series. 'Dodecah' also featured at the Melbourne  Vivid Design competition.
