Sad Halloween for Romanians
Last night, around 400 (some say 500) people, most of which teenagers, decided to attend a Halloween party at a heavy metal concert in a pretty popular nightclub in Bucharest (Romania’s capital city), called “Colectiv”.
Some time around 11 pm, an explosion caused by the pyrotechnics occurred, causing the walls to be lit on fire and a general panic. The building had only two exists, one of which, the survivors say, was not open at the time of the explosion.
What happened next is not hard to imagine. 27 deaths and 180 badly injured (with burns covering 70-80% of their body) so far.
The tragedy came as a shock to all of us, to the parents waiting for their children to come home, to their families, to the president of the county (who decided upon three days of national mourning), to the hospitals which now organise blood donations campaigns, but also to every teenager (including me), who could’ve been there.
This could’ve happened to any concert or party, in any city, in any country. It could’ve happened in any of the many nights I spent in nightclubs. It could’ve been me. It could’ve been anyone.
No one should every die on the dance floor.
More Romanian bands postponed their next concerts, the clubs cancelled the parties for the time being.
I’m not implying anything. I’m just spreading the sad news and you a reason why I won’t be so active these days.
