About: The Disney College Program allows you to live, earn and learn from a top Fortune 500 company in various roles from attractions to front desk. I worked at Epcot as an attractions host, took classes in Corporate Communications and Hospitality Management, as well as lived in a complex with 5 other roommates. You get the opportunity to network with leaders across the Walt Disney Company and you get a ton of work experience. While it may not be public relations, your role will allow you to improve on your communication skills, team skills and professionalism in the real world. I currently am seasonal with the company at Blizzard Beach waterpark at a lifeguard, and plan on returning to work for corporate in public relations or with theme park management through Disney's Professional Internships

Global Grind

About: Global Grind, an entertainment website owned by Russell Simmons, was my first internship. Daily responsibilities consisted of day-to-day management and execution of social media campaigns, monitoring and measuring the growth of the community, analyzing and reporting on effectiveness of new initiatives, collecting/monitoring/distributing social media metrics on a weekly basis, and reviewing and editing web content posted in various channels to highlight, tag and like for maximum visibility. I was involved in everything from entertainment news to politics. I was also responsible for attending and covering both private and public events. A few of the many events I attended included; Atlantic Record artist’s new music video releases, Brisk Ice Tea’s Pre-Bodega Concert Event, movie premieres and a Harlem Basketball Tournament for professional NBA players. To say I loved this internship would be an understatement. Music artists such as Sammy Adams, Mario, Labrinth, Mike Posner and Lyfe Jennings would be in and out of the office all day, every day for interviews with the editors. The music artists would play acoustic sets for the Global Grind staff as well which was very exciting! The staff was incredible to work with and extremely helpful. I learned and improved on many skills of which a classroom setting does not teach. If given the opportunity, I would go back in a heartbeat. Working in NYC was and still is my ultimate goal; therefore my advice for anyone would be that no dream is too big if you set your mind to it. Always be open-minded and take full advantage of every opportunity that arises.

Spector & Associates

About: Spector & Associates was my first internship, and worked there the summer before my junior year at YCP. It's located in downtown Manhattan right by Wall Street, and the commute was a total of 2 hours just to get there and received no pay besides a pre-paid monthly metro card (You have to bite the bullet every now and then). My daily responsibilities consisted of compiling press clippings related to our clients, manage their social media, take notes during interviews, draft press releases, research potential clients, fields, and trends, use the Cision program and basically be on my toes for something that they need done within the next 5 min. I went into this internship nervous as anything because I lacked major experience, but Spector knew it was an internship and they helped build my writing, research, and task management skills to the point they asked for me to return (Took a different path). Apply to any position you can despite your experience level, and be confident. The worst that can happen is they turn you down and you get interview experience for the next time.

About: This was a smooth introduction to a PR-focused internship. My responsibilities included writing press releases, helping with their e-newsletters, and managing social media posts. It was helpful to be eased into the position and doing things I'll ultimately be responsible for in my future career. Everyone there is super nice, which is a bonus, and since you're working with numerous York County attractions, a perk of the internship is tons of local goodies! I also helped write some content for the Visitor's Guide which is the huge "magazine" about all the different things to do in York County. This internship is another way for you to expand your knowledge of the area and see that it's a really great place to be! It's a nice mix of fun and work, but be assured, you will work! You should also get some experience working with the media list software, Cision, which many other companies use. The team is great about giving you an opportunity to work on something that excites you and helps beef up your resume!

About: This was a summer program I participated with eleven other interns. We were responsible for community involvement and volunteering, as well as special groups such as disaster preparedness, early education and truancy prevention, and specific volunteer opportunities. We learned about the problems facing York County, and served initiatives by creating magazines and brochures and other materials to assist different programs. It was a great first experience to work in an office setting with my peers, but we had a ton of fun getting involved with organizations like Bring on Play, The Senior Games, and more!

Hello from La Torre Communications!

We're a Harrisburg-based public relations firm with an award- winning internship program. Currently, we're seeking applications for our summer internship, and would like to invite your students to apply.

La Torre Communications’ internship program strives to create an enhanced learning experience for motivated young professionals by immersing them in the day-to-day activities of a public relations firm. At the end of the internship, the student will have a greater understanding of how media, government and business work together to create meaningful change.

La Torre Communications' internships are writing intensive. Duties include, but are not limited to:

Drafting press releases, op-eds and letters to the editor;

Pitching stories to the press;

Managing social media programs;

Compiling media reports; and

Assisting with daily office tasks.

In addition, interns may have the opportunity to attend press conferences, media events and client meetings.
