OCTOBER 8, 1991: BIRTH OF PRINCESS GENEVIEVE

Genevieve Vera, Crown Princess of France, was born on October 8, 1991. She is the eldest child and only daughter of King Louis XXVI and Queen Clarissa Elizabeth, and is first in line to succeed the throne. On March 3, 1991, the Palace of Versailles announced that the King and Queen were expecting their first child and before the birth, there was speculation the event would boost the French national economy and provide a focus for national pride. The Queen was admitted to Saint-Louis Hospital in Paris, in the early stages of labour on October 8, 1991. She gave birth to a daughter weighing 8 pounds 14 ounces at 6:28 AM. Gun salutes and church bells signaled the birth all across France, including the bells of Notre Dame. Today, the princess is now twenty-five years old and has achieved worldwide popularity.
