By now I know how this goes. I will ask you again if you are ever going to stay, and you will not answer. Youâll tell yourself it is safer to be missed than loved, and I canât pretend to be something youâre afraid of. I donât know why I keep trying to write a story that will never unfold, but every time I think weâre over you come back reciting something that sounds like hope, and I swear there is a way to make this work. I imagine a life without your eyes. I exist as usual, but there is no color blue. No spring forget-me-nots. No ocean. No sky. I am wise enough to know that no response is a response, but my God, nothing feels more like a promise than the way you look at me when we are in the same space at the same time. Here is where the answers are found. I hold your face in my hands and words mean so little. You kiss my wrist and I know you have found a home in me. Fear can not exist in all this light. You will leave and the sky will go black. Youâll fly away, but youâll always come back.
