Rowdy the labrador’s owners are often asked if they painted white patches around his eyes but the white patches are actually attributed to vitiligo, a disorder that strips the skin of pigment. 13-year-old Rowdy developed vitiligo just last year after enduring a very eventful and dramatic life. Having previously survived drinking poisonous water and even being shot by police during what they believed to be a robbery, this disorder is a walk in the park for Rowdy!

One of the vets I work with hates getting call outs for horses. She says that it’s not so much the horses but the owners that she has a problem with. Here is one of her latest stories:

Vet: Your horse is going to need antibiotics and bute. Owner: What! I don’t give my horses bute! They can’t race if it’s in their system! Vet: But your horse isn’t racing. Owner: Yes but she is a racing horse. Vet: But she isn’t being used for racing. Owner: Ok fine. But I don’t know about the antibiotics. She isn’t good with needles. Vet: I can give you some to mix in with her food. Owner: I’m not feeding her at the moment. She is in a good paddock so I don’t need to give her extra food, Vet: Okay well just put some honey on bread and give it to her with that. Owner: What! I’m not giving bread to my horse! Bread is not good for people and it’s no good for horses! There’s no way I’m giving her bread! Vet: Alright then just give them to her with a bit of chaff- Owner: I TOLD you I’m not feeding my horses at the moment! To be honest, I’m not sure how this ended but I was really proud that the vet managed to not murder the owner.
