“Thanks for the invitation,” Peyton began as her eyes darted around for her jeans. “But staying would mean acknowledging that this actually happened.” Because this wasn’t like her. But why couldn’t it be? Looking at him now, she tilted her head. Living in L.A. had truly begun to change her.“And besides, aren’t you done with me?”

Taking my mom to lunch in a little bit, so I don’t know how long i’ll be gone for but I will definitely be back within a couple of hours. 

On that note: Do you ever just want to eat something gross? Like gross/greasy/bad for you? Because we’re totally going to a Chinese buffet for that exact reason && i’m not sorry. yet.

Scowling at the sound of his voice as her hand grabbed the t-shirt that had been splayed on the ground, Peyton paused. She could still go, pretending like she didn’t hear him; but she knew that her conscience would get the better of her. Swallowing hard, she responded as she pulled her shirt up over her shoulders -- not looking at him. 

                           “I wouldn’t call is sneaking,                             just -- leaving.”

Wash wasn’t one for going on about a plan for everyone 

either–he didn’t believe in any of that. Not at this point. But that didn’t mean the universe didn’t have an interesting sense of humour.

“Still, though, don’t you ever wonder what it is that keeps you going?” 

Because Peyton knew that she did; constantly there was a question that begged and answer -- what was it that made her hold on so strongly? Perhaps it was that she had hope, beyond anything, that somehow things would always be okay in the end. It wasn’t that she was terribly unhappy; rather why she had lasted this long.

With adrenaline pumping through her veins, she could hardly gauge her injuries; although she was happy that someone had pulled over to help.
