Their life in Carricklea, which they had imbued with such drama and significance, just ended like that with no conclusion, and it would never be picked back up again, never in the same way. NORMAL PEOPLE (2020) dir. Lenny Abrahamson, Hettie Macdonald

IN THE CUT’S TOP 10 MOVIES FOR THE MEMBERS OF THE LONELY BROKEN HEARTS CLUB
We knew we were headed for nowhere faster and quicker than a sinking ship with looser lips. Our romance was headed for the iceberg, full speed away and drowning on the choppy waters, much like our maiden voyage on the Titanic. Why does it hurt so much to love somebody who has yet to love himself instead of the version I have configured of him in my silly little stupid head. I am an adult woman refusing to leave childish things behind because, unlike the Biblical sense, I too want to be free and not submit to your various variations of me. You won’t speak to me now because I called you out on your lack of public displays of affection for me. I want you to show me you love me and not just talk football with me. I should have let you go when I judged you correctly during our initial five hours late Saturday night phone call. Am I asking for too much when I said I wanted you to hold my hand in public, and not because I demanded you to grab it, but out of your volition? Was that too forward-thinking to demand? From your words, I motivated you and made sure you were always taken care of, and now you ghosted me because I asked you to hold my hand in public and talk to me about anything else outside of football. I know nobody will read this because I lost my following last October (around the time we started talking to each other), but I need to talk to somebody because my eyes brim with hot tears every night since Monday evening. Can he please lose his pride for one second and speak to me? I am begging God, but God lost my number.
