I have to respectfully disagree with this point of view.

I feel Hannibal is perfectly capable of friendships and relationships based on mutual respect, admiration, similar interests etc. The people that Hannibal kills and the people that he eats (and these two things don't always coincide) are not generally people that he likes. It seems Hannibal is capable of appreciating the beauty or value in person without necessarily being in awe of them, or even feeling particularly passionate about them.

And I know this post wasn't particularly about Hannibal and Will, but if we didn't know what happens between them in Red Dragon (and possibly the show could go down a different path there) then I think their relationship could go a number of ways.

I'd use Clarice Starling as an example but I think it's better to just use NBC's canon when talking about these things. We don't have too much to go on there when it comes to romantic relationships but I think the relationship he has with Agent Scully is an interesting indicator.
