Political Party Ideologies Havent Changed Since Their Foundings
“The Big Switch”... “The Southern Strategy”,” Party ideologies have changed over the years”. Chances are you have heard one of these common lines. However, these taglines are simply not true! Since its founding in 1854 the Republican Party has argued against theft of one’s own labor. The presidential election of 1860 and the eventual election of Abraham Lincolhn divided and drove the divided nation into immediate war. Lincoln, an abolitionist, opposed the expansion of slavery, “each individual is naturally entitled to do as he pleases with himself and the fruit of his labor”. He argued for personal liberty and natural rights among all men. Today the Republican Party takes the same approach, often in the form of constitutional originalism, limited government/regulation as well as lower tax rates. Going forward I will outline the consistency of the ideas the parties were founded upon, including: Economics, Race, Governmental Purpose, Constitution, and later dive into current events.
