I can’t believe we’re here, years later, and it’s apparently still a big deal to some that Matt is Gabby’s ex-husband. Gabby left. She was going to leave without a goodbye to Matt before he walked in on her. She DID leave Sylvie without a goodbye. Neither of them owe her anything at that point. She’s not Matt’s owner. Nor is she Sylvie’s best friend, or even friend now.
And honestly? Even if Monica didn’t leave, that’s not a relationship that would have or should have lasted. No knock on Gabby, but she didn’t want a partnership. She wanted to be completely independent in a relationship. Independence is fine if you know how to compromise. You can’t tell your husband that you’re doing something no matter what without a discussion, especially something like a pregnancy that could very well kill you. It’s like she had this idolized version of Matt in her head and being with him was something totally different than she thought.
Matt and Sylvie make sense. They both want the same thing. For each other to be happy. That’s all. I think those two idiots finally figured out that only they will make each other happy. I get the feeling they’ll find a way to compromise to have each other again. Nothing else will do after how they wrote 11x18 and beyond. I can’t believe I’m excited for Chicago Fire again, but here I am. I’m so damn happy.
Matt gets into an accident out on a call in Portland. His helmet falls off, he gets knocked on the head and blacks out for a moment. The next thing he knows, he's in the back of an ambulance with a paramedic checking on him, filling him in on what just happened, asking him questions to check if he had a concussion. They bring him to the hospital despite his protests, just to be safe, and as he's waiting for a doctor, sitting alone in an emergency room bay, it hits him.
Another head injury.
How many of these was he supposed to get in his life?
There's this paralyzing fear that grips him for a brief second, expecting the worst possible outcome yet again. Old Matt might have sneaked out before the doctor came around and pretended that nothing happened, go back to work despite a raging headache, avoiding an MRI machine at all costs but old Matt was someone from the past. Matt had finally learned to lean on others for help and support.
He fishes out his phone as he waits, dialing Sylvie's number. She answers on the second ring, her voice chipper on the other end of the line.
"Hey babe, what's up?"
Matt smiles automatically. Just hearing her voice was already making him feel better.
"I, uh, got into an accident at work. I hit my head pretty hard and I'm at the hospital right now," he admits quietly.
"How are you feeling?" Sylvie inquires and Matt can sense the worry in her tone.
Matt sighs, "not too bad. I have a headache but the doctor hasn't come in to see me yet."
I wish you could be here, he thinks as he recalls the last time he had a serious head injury. Sylvie had been with him every step of the way, not taking no for an answer when he stupidly tried to push her away.
"Okay, why don't you put your phone on speaker then I can listen in with you - so you don't have to be alone," she offers softly.
Matt's heart skips a beat at the gesture. His first instinct is still to say no, to tell her not to worry because he's sure he'll be fine but he's scared shitless that this could be the time that the doctor finally runs the test that confirms that Matt can't be a firefighter anymore.
"I love you," he says.
"I love you too."
When the emergency room doctor arrives, he puts his phone on speaker and Sylvie asks a few questions here and there but more listening intently. The doctor tells Matt that he'd need an MRI and they could squeeze him in for one in the next thirty minutes. He excuses himself and Matt is left alone in the room again.
His phone pings and he laughs when he sees that Sylvie sent him another MRI playlist.
"Will you ever get tired of Taylor Swift?" He wonders as he scrolls through her playlist.
"You should know by now that I won't," she replies cheerfully.
Matt laughs despite himself and having Sylvie with him on the other end of the line makes the situation a lot less terrifying. As he listens to Sylvie recount a call, clearly trying to take his mind off his MRI, it makes him think that no matter the outcome, they would face it head on together like they always did.
Less than 24 hours later, she's at his door, grinning, a small suitcase by her side, telling him that she was staying the weekend to help him out and so she could be there to hear the results of his MRI with him. He smiles at her and not for the first time realizes how truly lucky he is to have Sylvie in his life.
But I’m afraid it’s all coming to an end tonight. No matter how hard I try not to I just don’t see Haas doing us right. I will crush if this is the end.
Me: Well, I guess it’s time to find a 100k fanfiction and keep reading till I lose all sense of reality and forget about all my problems and instead focus on the More Important Problems of imaginary people.
Matt brought the boys to Chicago so they could spend New Year’s with their family and he could spend it with Sylvie, refusing to not miss his first New Year’s kill with her.
Kelly is in a very intense but fun basketball game with Ben and Griffin, Sylvie and Stella are getting tipsy on champagne in the kitchen and giggly together. Matt is watching all the people he loves most having fun together, he couldn’t ask for anything more.
I find it VERY interesting that these two posted pictures today not very far apart of them both on the same boat 🤔🤔
Seems like over the weekend (maybe) Jay took Perdita out on the boat and possibly had a sweet date and did some sightseeing!!
Clearly these two do NOT know how to play the subtle game very well and like to hide right in plain sight!!
Honestly though, I’m totally here for it cause I love them both and ship not only Miggy but also Jay and Perdita…it’s clear they love each other, love being with each other and know how to have a good time
