WASHINGTON, D.C. â The National Music Publishersâ Association (NMPA) today announced the honorees and speakers for its upcoming Annual Meeti
WASHINGTON, D.C. â The National Music Publishersâ Association (NMPA) today announced the honorees and speakers for its upcoming Annual Meeting on June 9.
Following the record-breaking release of her three award-winning albums in a single year, NMPA is thrilled to honor Taylor Swift with its Songwriter Icon Award. Her achievements are legendary: 11 Grammy Awards, one of only four artists in history to win three Grammy Album of the Year awards (and the only female ever to have accomplished this historical feat), and 76 NMPA Songwriting Gold & Platinum Awards. Known for her relentless advocacy on behalf of music creators, no one is more influential when it comes to writing music today.
NMPA President & CEO David Israelite commented on the event saying, âTaylor Swift has had an unprecedented year of success. She gave the world incredible songwriting when they needed it most and she continues to rewrite the rulebook when it comes to her career. She has always identified as a songwriter first, and in doing so inspired and elevated countless other creators. Her advocacy has lifted the entire creative community, and she has done it at great cost and risk to her own career. The risks paid off, not just for her but for our entire industry, and there is no one more deserving of our Icon award.â
Congratulations Taylor on yet another award for your continuing stream of outstanding achievements!

Taylor Swiftâs Re-Recorded âFearlessâ Album Debuts at #1 on Billboard 200 Chart With Yearâs Biggest Week
More than 12 years after Taylor Swift notched her first #1 album on the Billboard 200 chart in 2008 with her second studio set Fearless, sheâs back atop the list with a re-recorded version of the album, titled Fearless (Taylorâs Version). The new set is her ninth #1 and scores the biggest week of 2021 for any album. It launches with 291,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in the week ending April 15, according to MRC Data.
The original Fearless album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart dated Nov. 29, 2008, and spent 11 nonconsecutive weeks on the chart. It has sold 10.28 million copies in the U.S. and is Swiftâs second-biggest-selling release, behind her 2014 album 1989 (10.44 million).
On Feb. 11, 2021, Swift announced she had re-recorded the 2008 album Fearless as Fearless (Taylorâs Version). The new 26-track album has re-recordings of all 13 songs on Fearless, along with the six bonus songs added to a 2009 reissue of Fearless (dubbed the Platinum Edition) and the 2010 single âToday Was a Fairytale.â Beyond those 20 re-recordings, Fearless (Taylorâs Version) also boasts six newly recorded âfrom the vaultâ songs that were written for the original Fearless album, but were never recorded and released until now.
Fearless (Taylorâs Version) is the only #1 album of its kind: a re-recording of an artistâs (own or anotherâs) previously released album. Of Fearless (Taylorâs Version)âs 291,000 equivalent album units earned in the tracking week ending April 15, album sales comprise 179,000 (making it the top-selling album of the week), SEA units comprise 109,000 units (equaling 142.98 million on-demand streams of the albumâs tracks) and TEA units comprise 3,000. Re-recordings of older songs or albums are treated separately from their originals, with independent chart histories for each version. Thus, Fearless (Taylorâs Version) charts separately from the original album. The 2008 Fearless album falls off the new chart, after having re-entered a week earlier at No. 157 (chart dated April 17). In the latest tracking week, the 2008 Fearless album earned 6,200 equivalent album units (down 19%).Â
Ninth #1 Album: As Fearless (Taylorâs Version) marks Swiftâs ninth Billboard 200 #1, she ties Madonna for the second-most #1 albums among women. Swift is closing in on Barbra Streisandâs all-time record among women of 11 #1 albums. Among all artists, The Beatles have the most #1s, with 19. Among all soloists, Jay-Z leads with 14.Â
Biggest Week of 2021 by Units Earned: With 291,000 equivalent album units earned, Fearless (Taylorâs Version) scores the largest week for any album in 2021. It jumps past the previous high-water mark, set when Morgan Wallenâs Dangerous: The Double Album bowed at #1 with 265,000 units (chart dated Jan. 23).
The Three Largest Weeks for an Album in the Last Eight Months All Belong to Swift: Since August of 2020, Swift has not only claimed three #1s, but also the three biggest weeks among albums in units earned. On the Aug. 8, 2020-dated chart, Folklore debuted at #1 with 846,000 units. Evermore arrived at #1 on the Dec. 26, 2020, chart with 329,000 units. And now Fearless (Taylorâs Version) starts with 291,000 units.
Biggest Week for a Country Album Since 2015: As Fearless (Taylorâs Version) bows with 291,000 units, it logs the largest week for a country album since 2015. The last country set to post a bigger frame was Luke Bryanâs Kill the Lights, which debuted at #1 with 345,000 units. Fearless (Taylorâs Version) has the biggest week for a country album by a female artist since the Billboard 200 chart transitioned from an album-sales only ranking to an equivalent album units-based chart on the Dec. 13, 2014, survey.
Strong Sales: With 179,000 copies sold in its first week, Fearless (Taylorâs Version) logs the largest sales week for an album released in 2021, surpassing the opening week of Wallenâs Dangerous (74,000). Fearless (Taylorâs Version) also has the biggest sales week for any album since Swiftâs last release, Evermore, sold 102,000 in its second week (Jan. 2-dated chart).
Largest Streaming Week for a Country Album by a Woman: Fearless (Taylorâs Version) bows with 109,000 SEA units - totaling 142.98 million on-demand streams of the albumâs tracks. That hefty sum marks the biggest streaming week for a country album by a woman. Â It surpasses the previous record of 44.67 million streams tallied by songs on the Brenda Lee collection Rockinâ Around the Christmas Tree: The Decca Christmas Recordings (Jan. 2, 2021, chart). Swift also scores the biggest debut streaming week for a country album by a woman, blowing past Maren Morrisâ former high-water mark of 23.96 million streams earned by Girl on the March 23, 2019-dated chart.
Swift Now Has 3 of the Top Five-Selling Albums of 2021: In terms of traditional album sales, Swift already has three of the top five-selling albums of 2021 so far. Fearless (Taylorâs Version) is #2 with 179,000, Folklore is #4 with just over 111,000, and Evermore is #5 with a little under 111,000.
Shortest Wait Between New #1 Albums by a Woman: Swift waited just four months between the first weeks at #1 for Evermore (Dec. 26, 2020) and Fearless (Taylorâs Version) (April 24, 2021). Thatâs the shortest gap between new #1 albums by a woman. Swift beats her own record, set with the four months and two weeks between the first weeks at #1 for Folklore (Aug. 8, 2020) and Evermore.
First Woman With 3 New #1 Albums in Less Than a Year: With eight months and two weeks between the first weeks at #1 for Folklore, Evermore and Fearless (Taylorâs Version), Swift becomes the first woman in the 65-year history of the chart with three new #1s in less than 12 months.
Congratulations Taylor!!
Honestly country music was suffering without Taylor and this is absolutely wild⊠(x)
You cracked the codes and guessed all the From The Vault titles. đđđ
Hereâs the full track list, my friends. Iâm really honored that Keith Urban is a part of this project, duetting on Thatâs When and singing harmonies on We Were Happy. I was his opening act during the Fearless album era and his music has inspired me endlessly. Iâm counting down the minutes til we can all jump into this brave world together, filled with equal parts nostalgia and brand newness.Â
Head first, Fearless đ
Iâm elated to tell you that my 9th studio album, and folkloreâs sister record, will be out tonight at midnight eastern. Itâs called evermore. To put it plainly, we just couldnât stop writing songs. To try and put it more poetically, it feels like we were standing on the edge of the folklorian woods and had a choice: to turn and go back or to travel further into the forest of this music. We chose to wander deeper in. Iâve never done this before. In the past Iâve always treated albums as one-off eras and moved onto planning the next one after an album was released. There was something different with folklore. In making it, I felt less like I was departing and more like I was returning. I loved the escapism I found in these imaginary/not imaginary tales. I loved the ways you welcomed the dreamscapes and tragedies and epic tales of love lost and found into your lives. So I just kept writing them. And I loved creating these songs with Aaron Dessner, Jack Antonoff, WB, and Justin Vernon. Weâve also welcomed some new (and longtime) friends to our musical kitchen table this time aroundâŠ

We are absolutely ready to feel all of our feelings when folklore: the long pond studio sessions begins streaming tonight at midnight PST on Disney+!!! đâšÂ
Canât wait to watch this!
Ruth Bader Ginsburg Through the Years
A groundbreaking litigator for womenâs rights before being appointed to the bench, Ruth Bader Ginsburg has worn many aspects in her eighty-five years. On the Justiceâs birthday, flip through some photographs of her as a girl in Brooklyn, as a law graduate who left Columbia as co-valedictorian (but with no job offers), as a young mother, and as an advocate whose greatest legacy may be in the cases that she argued before what was then an all-male Supreme Courtâand won. (Photographs from the collection of the Supreme Court of the United States.)

Farewell to RBG, a true American hero and icon.
her đ power đ
Most of the things I had planned this summer didnât end up happening, but there is something I hadnât planned on that DID happen. And that thing is my 8th studio album, folklore. Surprise đ€Tonight at midnight Iâll be releasing my entire brand new album of songs Iâve poured all of my whims, dreams, fears, and musings into. I wrote and recorded this music in isolation but got to collaborate with some musical heroes of mine; Aaron Dessner (who has co-written or produced 11 of the 16 songs), Bon Iver (who co-wrote and was kind enough to sing on one with me), William Bowery (who co-wrote two with me) and Jack Antonoff (who is basically musical family at this point). Engineered by Laura Sisk and Jon Low, mixed by Serban Ghenea & Jon Low. The album photos were shot by the amazing Beth Garrabrant. Before this year I probably wouldâve overthought when to release this music at the âperfectâ time, but the times weâre living in keep reminding me that nothing is guaranteed. My gut is telling me that if you make something you love, you should just put it out into the world. Thatâs the side of uncertainty I can get on board with. Love you guys so much â„ïž
Just the filip I need here in covid lockdown. I canât wait for it to arrive!
@taylorswift Having already cancelled my plane and accommodation bookings today I reluctantly requested a refund on my Lover Fest East and West tickets. Ticketmaster would not guarantee a refund if for example it was still not possible to fly from Australia to the USA at the rescheduled dates, and although I had taken out insurance on my tickets it expires at the originally scheduled concert dates. I still very much hope I will be able to make it to see you for the 21st time at Lover Fest at the new dates you announce iin due courseÂ
Taylor Swift, the Hold Steady, Megan Thee Stallion, and more
1 - Taylor Swift, âLoverâ
It was the end of a decade, but the start of an age. The pop visionary of the 2010s tops off her twenties with a career-crowning suite about adult romance. Itâs her most emotionally voracious and musically confident statement, from the country twang of âLoverâ to the punk venom of âThe Man.â Nobody, absolutely nobody, thought Taylor wasnât writing enough melodramatic bridges, but Lover is her most bridge-intensive tour de force since Speak Now â these songs take twisty detours that stretch on forever like the Verrazzano Bridge, threatening to devour the rest of the song, and you keep wondering how the hell sheâs going to escape from this one. Until she jumps back into the final chorus to slam it all home. Hereâs to Taylorâs twenties â and hereâs to the even better decade to come.
#the only man we trust (via she-so-swift)
Wife and I hae been up in Sydney this week helping our son in law wrangle his three kids aged 8 months to 6 while our daughter was working out of her firmâs Sydney office.
All went well until the start of the drive home yesterday afteroon - evening. About 100kms out of Sydney the oil warning light came on in our 2016 Skoda. Â
Then I got out for a leg stretch and the ground which appeared solid wasât and my feet slid from under me and I fll into a puddle. My new Gazman shorts are now a little worse for wear as is the shirt I was wearing.
Having nursed the car to our overnight stay in Yass we went to check into the motel I had booked only to discover I had somehow booked for Friday 25th JULY. This was particularly bad news as the entire town was booked out for a touch football tournament.
Fortunately with the great assistance of the Mobil Yass servic station staff we got the oil topped up and proceeded to Gundagai where our luck changed we were booked into room 13 (ping @taylorswift)Â
consistent legend
Yet another great achieevement @taylorswiftâ
Taylor Swift Bent the Music Industry to Her Will
By:Â Lindsay Zoladz for Vulture Date: December 30th 2019
In the 2010s, she became its savviest power player.
n late November 2019, Taylor Swift gave a career-spanning performance at the American Music Awards before accepting the statue for Artist of the Decade. (Swift was perhaps the perfect cross between the awardâs two previous recipients, Britney Spears and Garth Brooks.) Clad in a cascading rose-colored cape and holding court among the younger female artists in attendance - 17-year-old Billie Eilish, 22-year-old Camila Cabello, 25-year-old Halsey - Swift had the queenly air of an elder stateswoman. After picking up five additional awards, including Artist of the Year, she became the showâs most decorated artist in history. âThis is such a great year in music. The new artists are insane,â she declared in her acceptance speech, with big-sister gravitas. That night, she finally outgrew that âWho, me?â face of perpetual awards-show surprise; she accepted the honors she won like an artist who believed she had worked hard enough to deserve them.
Swift cut an imposing adult figure up there, because somewhere along the line sheâd become one. The 2010s have coincided almost exactly with Swiftâs 20s, with the subtle image changes and maturations across her last five album cycles coming to look like an Animorphs cover of a savvy and talented young woman gradually growing into her power. And so to reflect on the Decade in Taylor Swift is to assess not just her sonic evolutions but her many industry chess moves: She took Spotify to task in a Wall Street Journal op-ed and got Apple to reverse its policy of not paying artists royalties during a three-month free trial of its music-streaming service. She sued a former radio DJ for allegedly groping her during a photo op and demanded just a symbolic victory of $1, as if to say the money wasnât the point. Critics wondered whether she was leaning too heavily on her co-writers, so she wrote her entire 2010 album, Speak Now, herself, without any collaborators. In 2018, she severed ties with her longtime label, Big Machine Records, and negotiated a new contract with Universal Music Group that gave her ownership of her masters and assurance that she (and any other artist on the label) would be paid out if UMG ever sold its Spotify shares. Yes, she stoked the flames of her celebrity feuds with Kanye West, Kim Kardashian West, and Katy Perry plenty over the past ten years, but sheâs also focused some of her combative energy on tackling systemic problems and fashioning herself into something like the music industryâs most high-profile vigilante. Few artists have made royalty payments and the minutiae of entertainment-law front-page news as often as Swift has.
