Jack was sitting on the couch, reading through a newspaper of some sort, when he heard Sally enter the room. With a smile, he rose to his feet, but moved no further.
“Ah, good morning.” He craned his skull to check for Zero, noting that he clearly fell asleep on the job. “I do apologise for the clutter but I, ah… Didn’t know which one to choose.”
And what did he mean by that? Well, between Sally and himself, there was fabric. Rolls and rolls of fabric. All different colours, different materials… Just… Fabric.
He said nothing, but simply waited for her reaction, ready to help her if she wanted to walk over to them.
Her eyes went wide at the sight of his gift, and at first she didn’t fully register his words. Her gaze darted between various rolls of fabric, her hands slowly rose to hide her open mouth, but he could probably definitely see the stitches upon her cheeks shifting and rising as she began to smile quite brightly.
“Oh Jack- I-It’s lovely!” She stuttered, feeling her excitement rise as she continued to look over the fabrics. “I-I’ve been running low on supplies for months.. So it’s perfect..” But then she realized- his gift! She had to fetch it. “Oh- um. Give me a moment…” Quickly she scuttled off (Hopefully her sewing room was not past the sea of fabric….) and shortly returned with a small basket.
“….” Nervous grin oh dear now she’s all the way over here and he’s over there… She’s just going to try and slowly clamber of the fabric, and not disturb any of it too much….
The skeleton said nothing, but gave Sally plenty of time to register what was in front of her. In his mind, she deserved an entire shop’s worth of material - and more! He wanted to get more, but he was afraid her curiosity would lead her to it before the right time.
“Wait, Sally, I-” He started, before realising she was gone. However, she did return, and he did help her across the various rolls that separated them. “You didn’t have to get me anything...” he sighed, but not in a dismissive way.
