My SKAMverse masterlist
because I just rewatched all the season 3s and have once again fallen completely in love with this show in all its universes ✨
SKAM (Norway)
The OG, so what can I say? Forever iconic.
The references to the Romeo and Julia film, the kiss in the pool, the way they hold each other the next day, the church with the neon light… makes me weak.
That kosegruppa meeting at the start, and the thing with the paper towels, I just freaking love it.
The song sang in the church over the scene where Isak goes to even at the end of ep9 is incredibly gorgeous, so tender.
Special shoutout to Magnus, who is very very adorable :)
But it’s actually so difficult to say what the best thing about the OG skam is because it is the original, so it’s every moment, every single one, because they did it all first, the minute for minute, the 'that’s why your mum wants to "meet me"', the swimming pool scene, the hotel, the breakdown, the coming out, the school doctor, the neon party kisses, all of it is so incredibly dear to me and so incredibly iconic and they started it all. So I know it’s a cop out but I love all of it.
Special shoutout to "kardemomme", my beloved.

Yasmina’s apology is the cutest.
Love love love the flatmates, they’ve got such a wholesome vibe. And Milan is very precious to me (dare I say he's my favourite of all the Eskilds?!)
There’s something incredibly tender about the relationship in this version, something fragile and so intimate, I can’t describe it any better, but it’s particularly visible when at the end of episode 9 Robbe goes to sander at the art school, and holds his hand, and Sander pushes him away because he’s scared that everything and everyone he touches breaks, and then Robbe just holds him there on the floor, surrounded by Sander's paintings of him…
But it’s also fragile in a joyful sense, like that scene where they bike through the tunnel, the song they put over that scene, there’s something so delicate about it. I really don’t know how to describe it…
Love that it’s both internalised and actual homophobia that gets brought up and dealt with. Even though I hate watching Sander and Robbe go through it and get beaten up.
That moment when Sander spirals is incredibly well acted, maybe the best of the them all, the way his eyes twitch and his breathing is uneven and fast. It's so real I can't actually believe that it's acting.
Also, I'm so fucking normal about the fact that the mural painting is still there, and that it’s a mural painting, for everyone to see, not just a little note tucked into Robbe's pockets.
And a plus that they swim naked, there’s something extra vulnerable and ethereal about that.
SKAM Italia
This version scores so many points because Martino's friends are THE BEST! The way Gio handles the coming out scene made me cry… the way they support him immediately and when they’re on the trip away and Niccolò is coming and they’re just immediately heading out, giving them two hours :) and then they’re all dancing while cleaning up the next day and singing and it’s the most wholesome wonderful thing I’ve ever seen… and they all come with martini to the psychologist after Niccolò has a crash. Honestly the best (boy)friend group in all of SKAM…
Love that martino wants to know how Niccolò is doing the next morning, wants to see him, doesn’t just immediately give up on him.
Martino and his mum are so important to me. That conversation through the door, the way they both cry and don’t resolve anything but still connect… the fact that Martino's mum is a real character who is there throughout is really cool, like we actually see the relationship they have instead of her just being an off-screen presence who sends religious texts every once in a while.
I'm very sorry to say it, but I don’t think Martino and Niccolò have the best chemistry. I’d actually go so far as to say I don’t think they have good chemistry together at all…
shoutout to the school psychologist though - an icon with his trust exercises and the celery!
but yes, just to say it one more time, this version is particularly beloved by me because the friends are the most wholesome and wonderful group out of all of them and I could watch them dance round the kitchen singing and cleaning up for ten whole episodes.
DRUCK
I might be biased because this was the first SKAM I ever watched and so this cast will always be incredibly dear to me, but I also just have to say this about DRUCK in comparison to the other SKAMs - it has the best music. I don’t make the rules. That's just the way it is! Their playlist is always fire!
German flirting is incredibly awkward but when Matteo and David do it it’s somehow charming ☺️
Love how wholesome David and Matteo are together. That scene end of episode 7 where David comes to Matteo and they just hug when in every other version they get straight to it... I love it!
The way Matteo is completely uninterested in everything and seems hardly alive sometimes but when David is near it’s like his whole soul lights up!
The swimming pool scene end of ep9, the way every other version of SKAM has a very gentle Isak coming to Even and it’s very beautiful, and Matteo just asks ‚"what the fuck?!" - its amazing! And then when they argue, the way Matteo shouts and it echoes. Takes a moment for each beat of the conversation to reverberate around them and then sink in, it’s beautiful!! And then Matteo getting all shy when he realises he will say he loves David, turning away, mumbling, but saying it TWICE because he loves David so much… And then they play take me to church…. That’s poetry. Scene of all time.
"Ich kann Pfannkuchen machen. Ich weiß wie das geht." -> Jonas & Hans friendship supremacy 🙌🏼
Something needs to be said about Matteo's charisma. This boy is stoned for half his season and still manages to be so incredibly charming. Like, I totally get why David likes him. When he's present with you, when he's actually himself, he is the most adorable and gorgeous human. And like, on paper it shouldn’t work, but it DOES. I think he's my favourite Isak out of all of them actually…
Also, every little glimpse of Hannah and Jonas makes my heart sing. There just such magnets to each other, there’s always something there with them. And I love that they’re both aware of it and not afraid to be around each other like that even when they’re not together. (And now I want to rewatch their season again… 😭)
SKAM France
I think this version takes the original SKAM and turns it into poetry. SKAM France is not just a teen show, it’s a work of art. You know, like the 21:21 scene, in the rain under this bridge with the music, the way they circle each other, and then Eliott standing there in the rain and Lucas reenacts Polaris with him and they meet each other there at the border of their two worlds getting soaked by the rain while Lucas drinks in Eliotts kisses like they're the elixir of life… poetry ✨
Or that scene where they make out and talk about the parallel universes. The lighting, the slow motion, the music, and then the way the different parts of that scene are all cut together and layered on top of each other, and then Lucas is whispering rather than speaking, which gives it this ethereal quality and makes this thing between them that they are discovering, tasting, cherishing, all the more precious… and the way the images are layered on top of each other with Lucas whispering how they’re together in lots of different universes, and we see them in this one but we know they are together like this in so many of them… it’s just so incredibly poetic and beautifully done, it’s like watching a piece of art unfold itself in front of your eyes in live time…
That scene where Lucas says "I don’t need crazy people in my life" - Eliott's acting in that scene is SOMETHING ELSE!!! You can really see it in his face how it hits him and how he takes a step back. He starts that scene sooo overjoyed and elated, and ends with such a sad resigned look on his face, it breaks my heart. -> and in the same vein, Lucas breaking down (and breaking his hand) at the end of that episode is so well done too, like there’s a whole world of emotion on his face in the space of like 20 seconds!!
Also can I say, I think these two have the best chemistry out of all the Isaks and all the Evens… They're like magnets and you just believe they get on and love each other so easily...
That moment between Lucas and Manon crying together on the couch means a lot to me. Because sometimes the pain is too big to be spoken aloud, but to not be alone with it, to share it with someone means you can actually let it out. Sometimes it doesn't need to get better, sometimes it just needs to be felt.
I remember I was shooketh when I watched that scene at the end of episode 6 for the first time and Yann just walks away… but I actually really love that they did this because it gives us that amazing scene with them in episode 7, where they really talk about it all, without ambiguity… and it makes me cry every time... you know, *friendship* 💙
Ok, I’m going to write about the paint scene but I’ll try to keep it brief. It’s exactly what I meant about them taking the original and making it poetry. Literally making it art. You can see them both breathing a sigh of relief to be near the other again, to realise that that thing between them is not lost. And then they are playful with it, they fool around with the paint, they laugh and just have fun with each other before it gets more serious. And then they’re there, covering each other in all the colours of the rainbow, bathed in bright soft light, just skin and colours everywhere, and everything’s in tune with the music and it’s just… poetry ✨
Dont even get me started about the scene at the end of episode nine. A fucking masterpiece. The use of that song, the memories of Elliott, the priest's words about faith and forgiveness and refuge and feeling safe layered with images of Lucas and Eliott together. The way the song's rhythm starts when Lucas leaves, the way he runs like it’s the last day on earth, still remembering Eliott and knowing instinctively where he'll find him. In the tunnel, and all the references not only to the earlier scene but also to Polaris and joining each other's worlds, and Lucas makes sure he sees him and makes sure Eliott knows he’s not alone, that he is there. And then the music cuts on that last line and I'm struck to the ground by what I've just seen.
Ok, this is turning into a declaration of love for SKAM France but I don’t care because it’s true. It’s perfection. I also think they are one of the few remarkes that handles Eliott’s illness well. Like, we see him being short with Lucas, to push him away and this is given the space to just be and exist and we get the time to just sit with it and realise what the day-to-day is going to look like for them before it all gets resolved - and through an actual conversation (in which, by the way, the acting is once again god-tier good) where we see how much Elliott cares, how he’s fighting with himself and doesn’t want his issues to mess up Lucas life. And Lucas finds the best possible answer to this, comes up with the minute by minute thing by himself and the scene ends on both of them smiling into the embrace and it’s like the sun has come out again - plus Elliott looks incredibly good in that burgundy shirt…
That goodbye scene too, by the bus stop, always, always without fail makes me cry. That’s all I have to say about it.
So overall, I think SKAM France takes the winning spot, but it also just exists on another plain of perfection… particular highlights also include the whole common room story, the Basile & Daphne story which is adorable, the drawings and the fact that they are a hedgehog and a racoon (I mean, how incredibly accurate is that?!?), the scene where they’re hanging out in episode 2 and Lucas plays the piano (pure magic), the way they integrated Manon's story and the incredibly beautiful reaction to Lucas' coming out from Basile and Arthur, but also Lucas' mum.
I might add thoughts about SKAM España at some point but there's something about it that stresses me out, so I haven't been able to watch it since the first time which was a few years ago and I barely remember it. But I'm also VERY excited to see how the Croatian SKAM reinterprets this season and gives us Isak and Even in another universe...✨
thinking abt eliott’s entrance in skam france…iconic 🙂↕️
Isn’t it always so heartwarming, so special, to watch the Even characters fall in love with the Isak characters?
I mean, there’s this undeniable charm to the Evens. They’re charismatic, cool without trying, bold and loud and beautiful. They have their little artsy hobbies, their eccentric quirks, their confidence that fills a room. They take up space. But the Isaks… the Isaks are different. They’re the quiet ones. Introverted. Sad on the inside, numb on the outside. Carrying so much weight through their lives while no one around them really seems to notice. No one truly sees them. They’re just there; existing in the lives of their friends, their moms, their (sometimes shitty) dads. Loving people they think they’re not supposed to love. Keeping everything locked inside. Bottling it up until it hurts too much. Using substances to dull feelings that are already too heavy. Convincing themselves that this might just be it. That this is life now. That it won’t ever really change.
We often tell the story this way: the Isaks are the ones who save the Evens. Who love them through their darkness. Which is true. But what we miss, what happens so quietly it almost goes unnoticed, is that it’s the other way around first.
Because long before the Isaks learn how to love loudly, how to fight, how to be, the Evens see them. They choose them when no one else really does. They pull them, gently, back into the world. They show them that being seen doesn’t have to hurt. That being loved doesn’t have to be something earned through suffering. The Evens save the Isaks in small, almost invisible ways. And then, only then, the Isaks learn how to save them too.
