you were on the couch, wrapped in the comfiest blanket you could find, finishing up the latest episode of love island, when you got the text from jimmy.
a huge pit took over your stomach, thumbs trembling as you rushed to your contact list and pressed his number.
jey hasn’t been hurt in over ten years.
your mind begins to race with a million thoughts per minute.
how bad is it?
is anything broken?
how long will he be out for?
will he even be able to wrestle again?
everything finally stops when the second ring is cut off.
“sis?” jimmy greets you, his usual cheery and goofy tone replaced with an extremely rare worry.
that alone is enough to scare the shit out of you.
“y-yeah,” you reply, hot tears beginning streaming down your face. “is he okay? what happened?”
“no word on his status yet,” he replies, the receiver echoing as if he’s in an empty hallway. “i wasn’t out there to see much, but the broadcast shows him taking a hard landing on a dive over the ropes. refs helped him backstage after the match.”
your chest tightens. “oh my god, jimmy.”
suddenly, muffled sounds of a door creaking open and words you can’t quite pick up take over.
soon enough, they stop and jimmy lets out a “thanks, doc.”
“what’s happening?” you ask nervously.
“just spoke to medical,” he replies, the sound of the door closing again in the background. “they’re still ruling out the severity but he’s definitely gonna need crutches.”
you allow your head to fall into your hands.
“this can’t be happening,” you mutter quietly, a sniffle escaping you.
you hear jimmy let out a deep breath on the other line. “i should’ve been out there with him.”
“jimmy, please. don’t blame yourself.”
“i was out there the first time, eleven years ago. told myself i’d never let my twin get hurt again. and i fuckin’ failed.”
your heart aches at his words.
jimmy has always been protective of his brother, it’s how he was raised as the older twin.
but to blame himself for something he couldn’t - hell, no one could control? you simply can’t allow it.
“jimmy,” you say again, your voice more stern this time. “you said it yourself. you weren’t out there, you weren’t meant to be. how the hell were you gonna prevent this if the people that were physically by his side couldn’t?”
he responds with a sigh and, suddenly, the muffled voices come back.
you press the phone closer to your ear, hoping to understand even a singular word.
the noise of the door comes again and, soon enough, you hear a muffled but unmistakable voice. jey.
“here,” you hear jimmy say, his voice becoming distant.
rustling noises come through the line before you hear the one voice you’ve been dying to listen to since you got the text.
“baby?” jey greets you, a deep rasp in his tone.
not the kind you love when he’s first woken up in the morning, his curls messy from sleep.
not the kind he serenades you with while he’s fucking you deep into your guys’ mattress.
this time, it’s heartbreak. it’s pain. it’s a nightmare.
“hi baby,” you reply, trying and miserably failing to hide the nervousness in your voice. “are you okay? what happened?”
he groans, probably trying to sit up, before letting out a sigh.
“fucked up my ankle in my match with cody tonight,” he informs you. “went to dive and met the floor instead. doc says i gotta be on crutches and keep it elevated for at least six weeks.”
you curse under your breath, running a hand through your hair.
sure it could be a lot worse, god it absolutely could.
but jey is the biggest workaholic you know.
not scheduled to be on tv? you’ll absolutely catch him in the building anyway.
home for two days before traveling? he’s without a doubt working out in your home gym that he set up in the garage.
big segment or match coming up in his next appearance? he’s most definitely been on the phone with jimmy for over an hour planning and perfecting every second of it.
the truth is, you’re absolutely terrified of the person he’ll be when he’s forced to relax and do absolutely nothing.
“i’m so sorry jey,” you exclaim, your tone laced with empathy.
“it’s alright,” he replies. “could’ve been a lot worse, you know?”
that throws you off.
as much as you love jey, as much as he makes you happy, the man can also be one big ball of negativity.
especially during times like these, he’s a hot head and always thinking the worst.
“i know that. do you?”
the hesitation that comes after pretty much answers your question. he’s miserable and trying to hide it from you.
without pushing too hard, you continue. “jey, baby, i’m here. talk to me. what’s on your mind?”
“i just…” his voice trails off, before you hear a quiet sniffle come through the line.
you swear you can feel your heart shatter.
jey has always been an emotional guy, never failing to wear his heart on his sleeve. that’s one of the many reasons you fell for him.
but him crying in such a vulnerable state like this? knowing he was trying so hard not to upset you just moments ago? it tears you to shreds.
“this shit….i-it just fuckin’ sucks man,” he begins again, managing to get the words out through hitched breaths. “just when i’m finally gettin’ back t-together with my family. just when we was about to g-get goin’ again. i gotta fuck up and do this shit to myself.”
you usually know how to comfort him, knowing exactly what he wants and needs to hear.
but right now? you’re too broken. too broken for him to speak.
“maybe it’s a sign,” he says, full blown crying now. “i thought i was strong enough to go another f-few years but….but maybe it’s time to hang it up.”
your own breath hitches this time, chest tightening at his words. “jey, what are you saying?”
he sniffles again. “i’m sayin’ i’m done. i-i’m retiring from professional wrestling.”
the world around you comes to a screeching halt.
professional wrestling isn’t just his profession.
it’s his life. his passion. it’s all he’s ever known.
after an entire childhood of watching and sixteen whole years of fighting, you can’t let him throw it all away.

“jey…” you begin to respond, but he keeps going.

this is the original thread i saw + i asked a friend how long the match went on for after jey recovered from the dive and she said around five minutes or so.
i know wwe is infamous for ending matches quickly if there’s a legit injury and, while i have no idea what they’re doing with jey from here on out if he is okay, i’m just praying. 🥲

the morning sun peeked through the open slit between the sets of your floral curtains, causing you to let out a groan and turn onto your back.
once your eyes are finally adjusted to the light, you look up and a quiet gasp exits your mouth.
dozens of pastel pink and gold balloons cover the ceiling above your bed, swaying ever so slightly in reaction to the fan spinning a safe distance away.
before you could call out his name, jimmy walks in carrying a tray of food, that gorgeous smile spreading across his face the second he notices that you’re awake.
“morning birthday girl,” he coos gently, setting the tray down on the bed next to you and a glass of a yellow liquid onto your nightstand.
you smile sleepily, opening your arms. “morning, daddy.”
he chuckles and lifts you like you weigh nothing before sitting back down onto the sheets, holding you tight in his arms.
he kisses you slow, his warm palms sliding up your pajama shirt and slowly down your back. 
you hum against his lips, keeping your arms wrapped around his neck and hands in his curls.
“someone slept good,” he teases when you two finally pull apart, brushing a strand of hair out of your face.
your smile fades immediately, a pout replacing it. “ugh as if you wake up any neater! leave my bed head alone!”
he smoothens out his beard full of black and gray hairs. “i’ll let that slide, but only because it’s your day.”
you roll your eyes, climbing off of his lap to grab your favorite pastel pink scrunchie at your dresser.
“anyway,” he begins again after watching you for a few moments, a not so subtle smirk plastered on his face. “i made your favorite: an omelette with enough cheese to make a lactose intolerant person drop dead, hash browns, extra crunchy bacon, fresh fruit, and pineapple juice to drink.”
as much as he teases you, especially in the morning, you simply can’t deny how insanely good of a cook jimmy is.
anything you want - pasta, pizza, even taco bell that you once didn’t wanna get out of bed to go buy because your cramps were about to be the death of you - he’s in that kitchen cooking like you guys invited over gordon ramsey himself.
but the problem was, as amazing as it all sounded, you didn’t want any of what he just listed. hell, you didn’t even want breakfast in general.
there was one thing on your mind: birthday cake.
last weekend, you overheard him on the phone with a nearby bakery placing the cake order ahead of time while he thought you were still in the bath that he spent over ten minutes perfecting for you.
you almost came on the spot at the sound of the requests he was making: a red velvet base, layered and topped with strawberry cream cheese icing.
and the best part? sparkly, heart shaped, pastel pink, and bordered with bows in the exact same shade.

you find yourself playing with the drawstrings of your pajama pants before taking a nervous breath.
“c-could we have some cake first?” you ask, staring through the baby pink rug beneath your feet like it owed you ten million dollars.
when he doesn’t give you an immediate no, you decide to push your luck a little further.
“breakfast looks amazing but i just want my birthday cake. i waited sooo long for it! almost four hundred days! pretty, pretty please?”
a few moments of silence pass, jimmy still giving you nothing but an occasional blink, before he finally speaks.
“you do realize i’ve been up for over an hour cooking you all of this food, right?” he asks, crossing his arms over his chest and nodding towards the breakfast tray. “making sure your bacon is damn near charcoal? making sure your juice came straight from a fruit and didn’t taste like some processed bullshit?”
you nod immediately. “i’ll eat it all after, daddy. i promise!”
he lets out a quiet sigh, running a hand over his face. “fine. go get the cake.”
you squeal, jumping back into his lap and peppering his bearded face with what must’ve been a hundred kisses.
he playfully taps your butt, signaling to sit back up. “i’m changing my mind in 3….2….”
you cut him off by sprinting off of the bed and out of the bedroom, straight to the fridge downstairs.
you open the doors and quickly grab the beautifully wrapped white box labeled with the bakery’s name and speed-walk upstairs, wisely deciding not to run.
after all, it’s too pretty to accidentally drop.
“hurry, daddy! hurry!” you chant after handing the box to him and taking a seat on the bed, your legs criss cross applesauce.
jimmy just chuckles, carefully unwrapping it before unveiling the cake.

“alriiiiight,” jimmy says, setting the cake back down to remove the candles.
“it’s so pretty daddy,” you coo, scooping up the tiniest bit of icing with your finger before bringing it to your mouth.
the sweetness of the strawberry and tanginess of the cream cheese combined are heaven sent, causing you to throw your head back and express how good it is with an “mmm!”
he smiles, grabbing the knife from your breakfast tray before cutting you a perfectly sized slice and placing it on a plate. “i’m glad, baby. here.”
you take the plate from him and immediately dig in, the fluffiness of the cake now being added making you damn near ascend.
“it’s soooo good,” you say dramatically, bouncing in place. “you gotta try some.”
jimmy chuckles, reaching out to remove a red crumb from the corner of your lip.
“let’s see,” he says, opening his mouth soon after, signaling for you to feed him a forkful.

the air in the elevator is surprisingly cool, filled with the aroma of jey’s freshly applied dior cologne and the quiet hum of the air conditioning.
tonight is a huge night for jaz as, not only is she finally getting to meet his co-workers and colleagues, but shes making herself known.
well, making them known.
jaz and jey have been together for nearly ten years, married for close to five and the way she saw it, she’s never experienced the full “married to a wrestler” effect.
sure jey was gone for two, sometimes three days out of the week, occasionally more when a big event was coming up.
and yes his titles, gears, and air forces from memorable matches were framed in various places around their home.
but she was never known to the world as his.
he never publicly made her known. not with a quick televised kiss after a title match, an anniversary post on instagram, or even a faceless selfie of them out to dinner on his story. nothing.
and though it sounds miserable and maybe even fishy, jaz was content with all of it. simply because she was afraid of what everyone would think.
“you excited for the meetup, baby?” jey breaks the silence, stroking the strip of bare skin that disconnects her black corset top and denim jeans.
jaz chews on her bottom lip softly, squeezing the strap of her LV bag tighter. “mhm. a little nervous though.”
he gives her an empathetic smile, turning so that he’s fully facing to her. “you ain’t got a thing to worry about, mama. i know this a new thing for us, but if you change your mind, all you gotta do is utter them words out your pretty mouth.”
she rolls her eyes playfully, nudging his side as he smirks and pulls her in for a kiss on her temple.
as if on cue, the elevator dings, signaling that they’ve reached the 3rd floor.
from the second the doors slide open, at least 30 fans formed in a single file line cheer and begin to record.
the pit in jaz’s stomach forms again, thinking about all the videos that are without a doubt including her, and will soon be posted for thousands to see.
jey never lets go of her hand, giving it a gentle squeeze as they make their way towards the beginning of the line.
the more staff members he greets, the more staff members finally meet the infamous mrs. jey uso.
“what up, uce?” he asks, dapping up a fellow co-worker of his, who jaz recognizes as danhausen from the weekly shows. “this is my lady, jaz. jaz, this is-“
“danhausen!” he calls out, cutting jey off and immediately going to shake her hand. “very nice, very evil! pleasure to meet you!”
jaz smiles, accepting his embrace. “you too! i’m a big fan!”
“ah!” he lets out with a proud smile, soon leaning into jey. “you better keep this one, jey. seems like a lovely ladyhausen.”
jey chuckles, letting go of her hand to slide his across her waist. “i plan on it, man.”
she smiles again, reaching up to kiss his cheek before heading towards a table with various colored sharpies.
time goes by and the line gets shorter and shorter, each fan more excited to meet jey than the last.
it fills jaz’s heart as she watches on, watching him make everyone’s days in real time.
about an hour later, a pair of teenage girls are second to last in line.
“hi, excuse me?” one of them calls out, causing jaz to look up.
“hi there,” she greets with a friendly smile. “you girls alright?”
the girl smiles back. “yeah! my friend and i were just wondering if you have any advice for meeting jey? this is our first time at a meet & greet and we’re pretty nervous.”
jaz’s smile deepens, as she sets down her phone. “aw, well congratulations! meeting a wrestler, or really anyone famous for the first time is super exciting.”
the girl nods in agreement, bouncing from excitement.
“but it also can be super nerve wracking,” jaz continues. “but with jey, there really isn’t anything to worry about. he’s super sweet from the second you walk up to him.”
the sparkle in her eyes gets brighter. “really?”
“really!” jaz replies, nodding. “you’re gonna do awesome!”
the girl smiles. “thanks so much! you seem really chill about all of this. have you met him a bunch of times already?”
suddenly, the realization hits jaz like a truck.
these girls think she’s a fan.
jaz chuckles nervously, still trying to keep the friendly smile that has clearly faltered. “y-yeah! i guess you could say that.”
the other girl’s head tilts to the side. “what do you mean?”
just tell them. they love jey so surely they won’t judge you, right?
jaz takes a deep breath before replying. “i’m his wife jaz. it’s lovely to meet you both.”
their faces fall quickly, causing her heart rate to pick up just as fast.
“wife?” the first girl repeats, jealousy practically reeking from her pores.
“as in you’re married to jey?” the other girl butts in, her attitude almost identical.
jaz nods, her smile looking rather nervous now. “for almost five years now, yes.”
the girls turn to each other, sharing a look.
“i don’t blame you guys for not knowing,” she continues, causing them to look back at her. “we like to keep our relationship kinda private, that’s all.”
the first girl huffs under her breath, scanning jaz’s body up and down. “yeah. we can see why.”
jaz’s smile completely disappears as the second girl quickly covers her mouth, audibly snickering from behind it.
“you can start heading over girls!” the cheery staff member interrupts, allowing them to walk through and over to jey.
jaz watches on with teary eyes and they both take turns hugging him without a care in the world.
as if everything is fine and they didn’t just subtly body shame the living shit out of his wife ten seconds prior.
anxiety quickly turning into nausea, jaz climbs off the chair and quickly walks to the bathroom, trying not to throw up her guts on the way.
about ten minutes later, there’s a knock at the door. “jaz? baby? you in here?”
“y-yeah!” jaz calls back. “i’ll be out in a minute!”
recognizing that tone of voice from anywhere, jey’s concern grows. “everything alright?”
“mhm!” she replies, her voice betraying her with the biggest crack.
“babe let me in,” jey demands, knocking again.
not wanting to make a scene or cause suspicion, jaz unlocks the door, allowing jey to open it.
from the second he sees her face, all red and puffy from crying, he closes the door behind him and pulls her into his chest.
soon, he pulls away, gently taking her face in his hands. “what’s wrong? someone say somethin’ to you?”
realizing that lying is absolutely pointless, jaz nods as best she can, chewing on her bottom lip softly.
a look of anger comes over jey as he narrows his eyes, pressing his thumbs deeper into her chubby cheeks.
“who was it?” he demands. “i swear i’ll kill ‘em.”
“j-jey please,” jaz begs, taking his hands and lowering them, never letting go. “i-it’s really not a big deal. we knew this was a p-possibility.”
“nah fuck that!” he calls out. “nobody in this bitch gets to…”
remembering that his temper scares her to death, he turns around, running a hand down his face.
“nobody gets to put you down,” he repeats, turning back around. “not when yo ass belongs to me.”
stray tears roll down jaz’s face as she chews on her bottom lip nervously.
“so ima ask you again,” he says softly, holding her face once more. “who was it and what’d they say?”
she takes a deep breath, looking down. “the two girls. the last ones you met.”
his eyes narrow, waiting for her to continue.
“they came to me for advice on how to approach you,” she explains. “said it was their first meet & greet. when i went into detail about how sweet you are, they pointed out how chill i seem and asked if i’ve met you multiple times.”
when he still doesn’t respond, she explains more.
“i told them that we’re married and that’s when they…” her voice trails off, breaking softly.
his eyes soften, finally putting the pieces together.
“oh baby,” he says just above a whisper, pulling her into an embrace, pressing his nose into her hair.
tears uncontrollably roll out of her eyes, as she sniffles quietly into his shirt.
“i’m so fuckin’ sorry jaz,” he whispers, rocking them back and forth. “you ain’t deserve that shit.”
“don’t take the blame jey,” she replies quietly, kissing his shoulder before placing her chin on it. “please don’t say it’s your fault. i love you so much.”
he pulls away and brushes a strand of hair away from her eyes. “i love you too, baby. more than you know.”
she gives him a soft smile, sniffling again.
“you’re so fuckin’ beautiful, jaz,” he reassures her, stroking her cheek with his knuckle. “hell, you’re fuckin’ perfect. never let anyone tell you otherwise, you hear me?”
she nods, reaching up to run a hand through his curls. “i don’t need anyone else to tell me anything but you.”
he matches her smile before leaning in, pressing his lips to hers.
she kisses back, gently tugging on his bottom lip as she pulls away.
“if it’s okay,” she begins, arms never leaving his neck. “i’m just gonna head back to the hotel for the show. and we can meet back up later?”
he nods, tracing her bottom lip with his thumb. “course it’s okay. you want me to drive you?”
she shakes her head. “it’s alright, you’re already here. i’ll walk the ten minutes, it’ll be good for me.”
he gives her an empathetic smile. “you sure?”
she nods, insisting.
“at least lemme walk you downstairs,” he offers, taking her hand. “i ain’t want the last time i see yo pretty face in three hours to be in a stank ass bathroom.”
she giggles, intertwining their fingers. “fair enough. come on.”
it’s only about a half hour into the show and jey is already set up for a match tonight.
it’s with his twin brother jimmy against their younger brother solo and his faction.
tag matches with the twins are jaz’s absolute favorite because jey is visibly the happiest during them. she’s also just adored jimmy from day one of their relationship.
as jaz is about to head to the bathroom to do her skincare, there’s a knock at the door.
by the time she gets there, the hall is empty.
well, empty aside from the bouquet of red roses and YSL gift bag on the ground.
“what on earth?” she mutters to herself, bending down to pick everything up before walking back in the room and locking the door behind her.
while climbing onto the bed, she notices a white paper sticking out of the flowers.

the drive is quiet, but not in an awkward way.

when the car comes to a slow stop, the restaurant outside of jaz’s window causes her to damn near break her jaw.
it’s at least 15 stories high, waiters dressed in the most expensive of dior tuxedos strolling in and out holding the most fancy looking food that jaz has ever seen.
“ready, miss?” the driver asks, holding out his hand.
she closes her mouth and smiles sweetly, taking it and carefully climbing out of the vehicle.
“thank you,” she says calmly, offering him a twenty dollar bill.
he politely refuses. “that won’t be necessary, darling. joshua took care of everything and told me not to let you pay a dime.”
joshua? jey usually hates being called his government name. how proper.
jaz lets out a quiet sigh, folding the money and putting it back in her bag. “what can i say? he knows me too well.”
the driver chuckles, folding his hands in front of him. “indeed he does. you have a lovely night, miss.”
she thanks him once more and, within the blink of an eye, he’s driven off and out of sight.
“mrs. main event?” a friendly, now female voice asks, causing jaz to look back.
“god he’s really putting that nickname to good use,” she mumbles under her breath, causing the waitress to smile. “yes that’s me!”
“wonderful,” she replies, turning on her heel. “right this way.”
the waitress leads her through the entire first floor dining room, up an elevator all the way to the 13th floor, and around the back of the building.
“jesus christ,” jaz mumbles louder than intended. “he did all this?”
“said he wanted ‘only the best for what’s his’ while making the reservation,” the woman intervenes. “you’re a lucky gal.”
jaz smiles, blushing lightly. “indeed i am.”
when they reach the area, a trail of even more rose petals leads to a candlelit dining table that’s already stocked with both wine and champagne.
“i’ll leave you to it miss,” the waitress says, placing a friendly hand on her back. “enjoy your night.”
jaz looks back, smiling sweetly. “thank you so much.”
the waitress nods with a smile and heads back downstairs.
jaz carefully walks through the trail, holding the strap of her new bag tightly.
“hi love,” she greets jey, causing him to look up from pouring her glass of wine.

she kisses back and heads to her chair, which he pulls out for her in advance.
she thanks him and sits down, watching on as he sits across from her and fixes his suit.
“you look handsome,” jaz compliments, hanging her back from the back of her chair.
jey smiles. “i had to at least try and match the level of beauty across from me.”
“well mission accomplished,” jaz replies with a smile, lifting her glass. “cheers to you, baby.”
he lifts his as well. “and cheers to you, mama. the most incredible, kind, loyal, and beautiful woman in the world. i love you.”
she blushes and says it back as they clink their glasses and take a sip in unison.
suddenly, the soft first chords of “all my life” begin to play, causing jaz to stop mid-sip.
“no you didn’t,” she groans, watching on as jey gets up and walks over, holding out his hand.
“may i have this dance, mrs. main event?” he offers in the worst proper accent jaz has ever heard.
she sucks her teeth and takes his hand, slowly getting up. “you and that damn nickname.”
he snickers and pulls her in slowly, keeping their bodies close.
“your british accent sucks by the way,” she teases, looking up at him.

from getting called up to the main roster and drafted to monday night raw after just two years of training in nxt.
to being booked incredibly from the second she signed that contract, looking dominant against superstars she’s always looked up to like asuka and becky lynch.
to now being well on her way to wrestlemania 42 with what’s so far been an outstanding feud with liv morgan for the women’s world championship.
and all at the age of just 25 years old.
sounds like heaven, right? wrong.
while she’s met and befriended many incredible people backstage, whether it be fellow wrestlers or just the behind the scenes crew, liv has been a thorn in her side since their booking together started.
whether it be nasty side eyes, snarky remarks about her gear, or even backstage gossip, alexis has been number one on her shit list since she showed her face in the big leagues.
so naturally, during their last face-off before mania, in the main event of monday night raw, liv stirs the pot just once more while she can.
the match itself went incredible - both women getting an equal amount of offense in at their respective times. but after a couple of nasty kicks to the ribs and liv’s finisher, oblivion, alexis could no longer go.
“here is your winner,” alicia taylor yells into the microphone from ringside. “the women’s undisputed wwe champion, liv mooooorgan!”
loud boos rain down in the arena as raquel rodriguez runs into the ring and backs alexis into a corner, delivering sharp kicks to her midsection.
“nunca serás campeona, novato!” she screams, now delivering powerful blows to alexis’ face. “no si puedo evitarlo!”
when she finally climbs off, leaving alexis’ face bruised and bloodied, she strolls over to liv and raises her hand high.
just then, the judgement day music hits.
so desperately wanting to know what’s going on, despite barely being able to move, alexis holds on tight to the bottom ropes and pulls herself up.
her heart drops as she watches two men, jd mcdonagh and dominik mysterio, run down the ramp with two steel chairs, one for each girl.
“UUUUSOOOOO!”
everyone stops in their tracks and the arena erupts in cheers as alexis’ boyfriend josh, known to everyone in the building as jey uso, comes running soon after them with a chair of his own.
they quickly get put to good use, the sounds of the steel being slapped against backs cutting through the screaming crowd.
once the guys are down, jey scurries into the ring, causing liv and raquel to frantically run out and over to them.
soon enough, they all head back up the ramp, shooting death glares at the couple.
“good luck getting your man to protect you this weekend, sucia!” raquel calls out, her arm wrapped tightly around jd.
“see you on saturday, bitch!” liv yells directly after, before huddling her face back into dominik’s chest.
more boos fill the arena as they continue their walk of shame to the back.
after what feels like years, jey finally kneels down to alexis, offering her a hug and kiss to her temple.
“you gon’ get her and that belt this weekend, baby,” he mumbles against her skin, before pressing a kiss to her hair. “i know it.”
alexis offers him a weak smile before wrapping an arm around his neck, assisting him in pulling her up.
once she’s up and stable, the crowd cheers as jey lifts her arm and points to her, circling the ring.
jey pulls alexis into one last hug for the cameras before her music hits, signaling that the show is over.
the crowd sings along as they exit the ring together, jey never letting go of her waist.
the cameramen follow and, once they’re halfway to backstage, signal for alexis’ social media promo to begin.
“congrats, liv. you’ve won the battle, but best believe i’m winning the war. see you at mania, bitch.”
a crowd of people near her cheer as she walks past the camera and disappears backstage, jey delivering a subtle nod to the camera before following close behind.
the crew backstage, including directors and managers, erupted in claps and whistles.
“awesome show, kid,” the undertaker compliments, offering her a handshake. “you’re fuckin’ awesome.”
alexis happily accepts it, thanking him sweetly.
“you really are,” stephanie mcmahon chimes in. “we can’t wait to watch you this weekend.”
“make sure you kick her ass for me on saturday, yeah?” demi, known to the world as rhea ripley, teases with a wink, causing everyone to laugh, before pulling her into a hug.
alexis giggles, hugging back. “will do, mami.”
they share a laugh before alexis says her goodbyes for the night.
hand in hand, she and jey head out of gorilla and back to her dressing room, receiving compliments from huge names like aj styles and cm punk on the way, which she happily takes alongside a couple of father-like hugs.
“aight champ,” jey begins, closing the hotel room door behind them. “let’s get you cleaned up.”
alexis lets out a breathless chuckle, tossing her duffle bag onto the bed. “joshua, i’m not a champion yet.”
“but you will be,” he encourages, walking over to hold her waist and gently rub her sides. “you gon’ come out stronger than that entire group and win your first title on the grandest stage of ‘em all.”
she smiles softly, looking down to hide her cheeks turning a tomato shade of red.
“and when you do,” jey continues, causing her to look back up at him. “ima be right there cheering my girl on, giving dom dom and big head all the superkicks in the world.”
that makes her smile. “you’re something else, yeet man.”
he chuckles and kisses her cheek. “come on. let’s clean up them lips of yours. i’m dyin’ to kiss ‘em.”
alexis rolls her eyes playfully, taking his hand and following him to the bathroom.
jey wastes no time picking her up onto the sink and preparing a cotton pad with rubbing alcohol.
he immediately gets to work wiping excess blood that dripped from her cuts and softly rubbing the appropriate cream onto her freshly bruised skin.
once he’s all done, it’s time for the part alexis has been dreading most: her bloody lip.
“heads up baby,” jey warns, brushing her hair behind her shoulders. “this might sting a little.”
alexis nods, quickly squeezing her eyes shut once the liquid makes contact with her cut, her entire bottom lip burning immediately.
she curses under her breath and jey chuckles, placing a small, bright pink princess bandage on the wound.
“a princess for my princess,” he says proudly, stepping back to admire his work.
alexis smiles, shaking her head. “you’re lucky you’re cute.”
he chuckles, heading back over to lift her off the counter. “cmon, girl. an undisputed champ always needs her beauty sleep.”
“jo-” alexis goes to correct him again, but is interrupted by a kiss to her lips.
“don’t joshua me,” jey says, heading over to the bed and placing her down on the comforter. “i told you before. that championship is coming home to you, baby.”
she sighs, tossing her duffel across the room and by the door to make room for him.
“fine,” she finally gives in, opening her arms wide. “since you’re so confident, can i get undisputed champion level cuddles a few days in advance?”
he doesn’t hesitate, immediately belly flopping onto the mattress and attacking her face with kisses, causing her to laugh.
and as she eventually drifts off to sleep in his arms, the idea of becoming a world champion someday doesn’t seem so distant after all.

you even booked a nail appointment, which you have no complaints about, as your tech absolutely killed it once again.

the girl that went out of her way to walk over to share play doh on the first day of pre-k.
the girl that she traded lunches with every friday in third grade.
the girl that squeezed her hand moments before they walked the stage during their eighth grade graduation because she felt like throwing up.
the girl that sat by her side and never stopped comforting her when the words “we’re sorry to inform you” appeared in an email from her dream school.
and now, the girl that’s been gone for what feels like decades.
suddenly, the familiar scent of chanel bleu fills the air and a pair of strong arms wrap around alexis’ torso, causing her to lean her head back.
“she’s in a better place mama,” her boyfriend jey softly reminds her, whispering into her hair. “you know that.”

it’s now the next morning and, not feeling up to going on the actual anniversary, alexis has decided to visit aria’s gravesite today.
she nods, smoothening out her outfit in the mirror before turning to her boyfriend.
“i’m sure love,” she replies softly, centering the cross charm on his chain so that it sits perfectly on his broad chest. “i don’t know how long i’m gonna be and i don’t wanna keep you waiting.”
he sighs, brushing a stray hair out of her face. “baby, you know i don’t mind waiting. i wanna support you.”
“and you have,” alexis replies, giving him an empathetic smile. “you’ve been incredible, jey. i love you so much.”
she cups his face and plants a kiss on his bearded cheek before continuing.

the stroll over to her grave feels like a mile, the crunchy gravel turning to soft, freshly cut grass beneath her sandals.
she takes a deep, shaky breath before taking a seat on the grass and placing the daisies against aria’s tombstone.
