Giving her plenty of space. Clint makes sure not to stare at her, to give her as much privacy as possible. He didn't ask any questions. Clint felt he didn't need to.

❝ I was already awake. ❞ Liar. He woke up from a dead sleep with an uneasy feeling. He put his hearing aids in and stumbled towards her room. Clint couldn't explain it, but he just felt like she needed him right now. ❝ We don't have to talk. We can just sit. ❞

The way her body trembled, he may be right to make that assumption. Her body ached, no doubt from how tense her body had clenched in defense of a memory while she tossed and turned. Then another thought hit her. How did he know to check on her?

❝ Right, ❞ he was a terrible liar, at least in her eyes. ❝ I think I'd like that . . . thank you. ❞ Kate shifts her weight a bit, forcing her muscles to relax and give her a moment to breathe. ❝ What were you doing up, ❞ she looks at her phone. ❝ It's the wee hours. That's either really late or really early for you, depending on how you look at it. ❞

𝙆𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙢𝙪𝙡𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙘𝙤𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙚, finger tapping on the handle of her mug, completely lost in thought. Clint hadn't been back for long. Her feelings were in about fifty different places over it, primarily on the side of anger with a hint of relief. As glad as she was he was back, cleaning up, she was still pissed he left again without a word. They were supposed to be the dynamic duo. Two peas in a pod. That shoulder to lean on when no one else was there to help them. That was the Hawkeye way.

It seemed a lifetime ago when Clint had helped her after her team fell apart and she'd essentially disbanded them. She was lost and felt like a fish out of water, but he was there to help her back to sea. He didn't really give her that option. Not when it mattered most.

❝ What? ❞ Kate blinks hard, eyes dart up to meet his gaze. ❝ Sorry, I ----- you want me to be calling you dipshit? ❞ Kate tilts her head to the side with a raised brow. ❝ Fine, I'm doing alright, dipshit. Happy? ❞

ok im back and i have a question for the dash...

would it be weird if i kept some of my previous rp canon alive for my kate? she had been previously single ship for years and one thing lead to another and no longer is. what im getting at is that, it was so like integral to how i wrote her that like i find myself mentally referring to it and then reminding myself that its not actual KATE canon. so ya...would it be weird if i ever brought up kate's previous engagement in any capaciy when writing with people?

please no this isn't me throwing shade to anyone or anything, shit happens but it's just something ive been mulling over for like a year plus now and i think it's part of why i feel awkward sometimes writing her.

Piggybacking from my recent hc/meta: Kate still does a lot of volunteer work to this day. She still volunteers at soup kitchens. Still collects clothing donations and other useful stuff to take. When she was living in Venice briefly, she helped out in skid row and tried to help things get cleaned up only to have the law come down on her head for doing so without permission. She continues the same thing now that shes back in New York.

Maybe she didn't have a lot of room to talk. She had been the one to criticize Clint for the arrow first when she'd been down and he'd made it to cheer her up. Once the haze cleared, it was easy to see just how good of an arrow this could be. For miscellaneous problems of course.
