Eclipse by Artem Chebokha
So if you were a dragon, what would your hoard be??
Iāve been thinking about this a good while and.
It would be a hoard of collections.
I love starting and maintaining various collections: movies, games, board games, mtg decks, mtg commanders, dominion sets, recipes, dnd books, wall art, movie posters, I enjoy collecting and meaning.
So Dragon Jones would absolutely have collections of collections, each with their own quirks, facets, and histories.
Magic the Gathering tip: Basic lands and tokens are a good snack, in a pinch
Magic the Gathering tip: they wouldnāt call them food tokens if you arenāt supposed to eat them i keep saying this
Ā Ā PART IĀ Ā RUST & RATS Ā Ā Ā Ā The white sun marched slowly & steadily across the sky, close behind it the red & green suns danced around e
Our first story is up! "Of Mice & Myr" takes us to Mirrodin before the corruption of Phyrexia. We find a myr named Scraps & their chance encounter with an injured mouse on a mountain of rust...
If you're a fan of Magic: the Gathering's story & lore, give this & read & let us know what you think!
The following story will jump ahead to the first days of Phyrexia's invasion of the surface. We'll cross paths with a woman seeking her lost friend, a long lost relic, & a myr seeking their lost purpose. You can read "Sword of Lost & Found" on November 12!
The final story will take us to Phyrexia's victory over a doomed plane...but even a spark of hope can burn away the darkness, if only for a little while.
Look for "Myr Besieged" November 19!

After the issue with Kiora's (ex-Atua) name, I thought Creative would be more restrictive about using real cultural names of deities, but now there's a character named Inti. Since Inti was the Tawaintisuyu's ("Inca's") name for the Sun God, do you think it was a conscient decision or more of an unnoticed coincidence?
It's not a binary good/bad thing to do kind of decision. Context matters, and this sort of assumption flattens diverse cultures.
Kiora's last name of Atua was changed because it tread on Polynesian beliefs, yes. You can see Doug's post about it here. I don't know if no one intended for Kiora's name not to be a homophone for Kia Ora, the Maori greeting, given her nature but that's irrelevant at this point. It was changed because the community asked for it be changed, as it wasn't something they used casually. My understanding is it's a phrase that's a blessing. I don't know all the specifics, but we can agree there's a difference between naming a character 'Praise Jesus' and 'Jesus Lopez', yeah?
An important factor in this discussion is whether or not a culture uses that name for like, first names. Is there a taboo against naming individuals after that god? For some cultures there is, or for others there isn't. I wasn't part of the team creating the set, but it's pretty easy to find a bunch of real people named Inti online. I would imagine, in that context, that there isn't a taboo, or as much of a taboo that would upset the south american community about it, then.
And that's not getting into the fact that Inti was created six years ago for the original Ixalan (he's not a new character), or that the phonemes making up the name are extremely common in Nahuatl as well.
Taking a look at other Magic characters, Chandra is also named after a god. Chandra is the god of the moon in Hinduism. While I won't say it's a great use of the name - Magic mostly used Indian names to make their characters sound 'exotic' and 'fantasy' for many years - it's also an extremely common regular name for folks. Although both Wizards and 99.9% of Magic players mispronounce it as Shawndra. Heck, I even do it because no one knows who I'm talking about if I say 'chundruh'.
But anyway, I've gotten a lot of questions in a similar vein to this that start from an assumption of wrongdoing but coming from very flat assumptions of how to tackle adapting other cultures and adapting versus appropriating, and I hope I've helped explained why it's never as simple as 'x thing is bad across all other cultures'. This is, of course, why having cultural consultants is so important and why it's become a priority for Wizards.

The Krark Clan enjoys pulling them apart just to watch them reassemble one another.

What do you think about Special Guest cards? Don't they do harm to the flavor of the set? "The character is present here, maybe has a flavor text related to the set, but it never actually happened". Who needs this?
I donāt think they harm the flavor of the set. What-ifs are fun, I have always enjoyed them. Theyāre thematically linked, just not canon.
I donāt think theyāll always be slam dunks, but Iām looking forward to cowboy versions of characters who didnāt make the actual set of Thunder Junction, for instance.
Itās also cool to get cards like Mirri and Lord Windgrace who could almost never get reprinted easily because theyāre dead in-lore.
Iām also a big fan of reprints bringing prices down. But besides all that, the List didnāt harm the flavor of sets, and these are just āthe Listā slots š¤·š»āāļø
Magic the Gathering tip: one of these days iāll make a youtube channel and then the Professor will notice me and invite me onto Shuffle Up And Play and weāll become best friends and
I might be a bit biased, & I know it was a LONG shot, but I really thought Ixalan was going to introduce Purple mana.
I was thinking maybe Cosmium would actually turn out to be Purple Mana somehow. Oh well! Still in love with the purple aesthetics!
No one ever talks about how there is a place in the Shire called the Hills of Scary, where lies the town of Scary
Anyway, Happy Halloween!
If you're a fan of the rich storytelling of Magic: the Gathering, or just a fan of character driven fantasy, I'll be sharing my Magic stories here!
These stories will focus on characters normally relegated to the backgrounds of card art. They won't be about plane-hopping epics, (except maybe when they sometimes are), but will act as little windows into planes we're familiar with, & characters we're not!
They will all be short stories in the vein of Magic's Uncharted Realms. Most of the stories will be stand-alones, duologies, or trilogies. There will be tales of Myr knights & scraplings. And boggarts with soggy socks. Tales of families found & lost in time on Tarkir. An Aetherborn planeswalker with one day left to live, an exploration of a dragon's one true desire, & so so many more
So welcome Planeswalkers & lore lovers! I truly hope you enjoy reading these stories as much as I've been enjoying writing them! I've loved Magic's story & community for 20 years, & I love being a part of it! Starting the week of November 5th I'll be posting stories weekly! So I invite you to my ever growing library of original tales. I hope you enjoy!
Magicās takes on Sol Ring
Similar to my previous post about the Sol Rings of Universes Beyond, weāve gotten a lot of different in-canon representations of Sol Ring. Which is your favorite?
