Glistener's Guide to New Phyrexia: Preview Edition is now LIVE!
Get an early look at Littjara’s upcoming full-length D&D 5e homebrew sourcebook, in all of its Phyrexian glory.
The 43-page Preview includes:
New playable species including the 5 Mirran humans, Viridian elves, myr, and core-born Phyrexians
A modular Phyrexian modification system
Core rules for phyresis, compleation, and ichor magic (also known as "Phyrexian mana")
New feats, spells, and magic items inspired by the iconic mechanics and cards of Mirrodin/New Phyrexia
30+ monster and NPC stat blocks, largely concentrated at lower tiers of play, plus some named legendary hard-hitters
The goal of this preview is to allow for simple games to be run in the world of Mirrodin/New Phyrexia, introducing tables to core mechanics and gaining playtest data as I work toward releasing the full-length supplement. (Consider this its "Unearthed Arcana" stage of development.) I look forward to hearing your feedback and gameplay stories, and hope you enjoy bringing this setting to life as much as I have!

magic artists consistently create some of the hottest things imaginable when trying to design cosmic antagonists. like the Phyrexians? smoking. Eldrazi? ough. Nicol Bolas? not into men but I've heard things. they just can't stop.
Commission for @sorinmarkov of his compleated Avacyn design!
Rather pleased with this one :)
Hi Miss Loreley! Question about compleation vorthos.
So based on a lot of the artwork and descriptions from Scars of Mirrodin, The Brother's War, etc., it seems Phyrexian compleation is done by systematically replacing parts on a corpse with machine and organic materials.
In the card Failed Conversion, it seems the ichor just sort of... Transforms things into its Phyrexian counterpart. Would this be a potential misunderstanding of the compleation process by the artist, or in the time between Scars and March of the Machines Phyrexians just got more efficient with their goop?
The oil's virulent corruption of Argentum has always functioned like this. In the core, it alters a fungus into mycosynth, and mycosynth spores spread a facet of the corruption across the plane (as Memnarch's Mirrodin); the wildlife of Mirrodin is partly metallic because of this transmogrifying force. Melira is such a big deal because she isn't affected by the oil's metallic warping.
The oil does, however, get further engineered by Elesh Norn in her preparations for her invasion. One effort is to tether the oil's corruption to Norn's life force, giving her ultimate dominion over any Phyrexian born of the oil (This is why all the Phyrexians fall inert upon her death.)
The second is that the oil weaponized specifically for the invasion via vectors called converter beasts. The goal of a converter beast is to snare a denizen of an invaded plane, drown them in glistening oil, and make quick-and-dirty shock troops to horrify and slaughter resistance forces on each plane. This isn't full compleation, but a rudimentary way of swiftly growing Phyrexian forces everywhere all at once instead of taking time to move plane-seizing armies across Realmbreaker from world to world.
This whole process is unique to New Phyrexia, so the compleation seen under Yawgmoth's rule, such as during the Brothers' War, doesn't apply to how Norn uses oil during her invasion (Though this slower and more methodical practice was still used plenty in New Phyrexia.)
