No one asked but here are my thoughts on a golden wind post-canon au.

Ok first off I know I’m a Fugo fan with a phf reference username but I do not agree with most of the contents of that book. I would take the bare bones outline of it (six months after golden wind Giorno contacts Fugo and gives him a special mission to get rid of the narcotics division) and discard all the rest. While it has been pointed out that Fugo did not actually leave Passione in the boat scene, quite the opposite in fact, I could see him lying low after Giorno takes over. This could either be in the form of joining another small-time local subunit or of trying to hide from Passione altogether (while I don’t think the second option is as plausible, I do like it purely because it gives me a chance to give him a little makeover lol). Giorno via Mista then finds him and instead of it being a test of his loyalty, the mission is more of a “I want to see what you can really do and I was already planning on killing these guys anyways so who cares” kind of thing.

Side note on the narcotics unit: I hateeeee phf’s narcotics unit. There is no was that like five people can control an entire country’s drug trade. And the shit about Massimo’s stand making a superdrug that replaces all the other drugs is stupid. They have to be actually importing real drugs. They can’t just do magic drugs. My idea of the narcotics unit would be an upper management that control the imports with subunits that control local distribution.

Ok this is getting long the rest is under the cut. Will add more when I have more thoughts.

As for Giorno’s inner circle, I also really disagree with phf’s portrayal of Mista’s superstition. No he would not be afraid of being second in command. He is specifically afraid of choosing one thing out of a selection of four things. Like firing one bullet out of a selection of four. Or getting one slice of cake out of a selection of four. Not just the number four in general. And certainly not the number two. I also think that Polnareff wouldn’t want to be officially part of the mafia. Like, he hangs around because he thinks Giorno is a good guy and the only other option is going towards that big boulangerie in the sky but he’s not exactly a gangster. So Mista would have to be Giorno’s right hand man by process of elimination. I think part of the reason you could give for Giorno reaching out to Fugo and giving him a chance could simply be because he literally doesn’t have anyone else in Passione he can trust. His current inner circle is just a guy with a gun so he’ll take all the allies he can get. More on that later though.

As for Trish, I think she would initially try to get as far away from Passione shit as possible, and Giorno and Mista would have no objections. However, you know what they say about stand users attracting each other. And seeing as most of the other stand users in Italy also happen to be Passione members, staying entirely clear of gang business would be very difficult. She also has a real bond with Giorno and Mista just by virtue of going through the same traumatic shit with them, so I think she’d eventually find herself in their vicinity again. There would be a kind of love-hate relationship I think where she thinks they’re the only people that understand her situation but she also kind views it as their fault that she still has to deal with stand/mafia bullshit.

Fugo would eventually be added to Giorno’s trusted inner circle, but I don’t think it could expand much further. While we know that Diavolo’s issues started well before he took over Passione, the role of mafia boss inherently comes with a heap of paranoia around rival gangs and backstabbers. Especially with how sudden Giorno’s takeover was. Though honestly, due to Diavolo’s insistence on hiding his identity and impersonal correspondence with subordinates, I doubt that there’s anyone in Passione who was all that loyal to him as a person. I think that over the first few months as boss Giorno would grow more and more aware of exactly what he got himself into, and would start to experience a lot of stress and paranoia. Eventually though he would get the hang of things.

the end of golden wind is rly sending me bc mista keeps talking about going back to help bucciarati and at no point does giorno decide to relay to mista or trish that bucciarati's gone to the big italian restauranté in the sky. in fact he's like i mean, i'll walk w you guys but you're going to be pretty disappointed when we get to the coliseum!
