Born and raised within the boarders of the island, Lupe has never left the comfort of her home. The story of her parents is as unknown to her as most kids who end up in the foster care system are, but after her mother's sudden death at the age of ten, Guadalupe was taken in by a foster facility ran by nuns. There she learned everything there was to know about the world, and the great wonders that were the powers so many people were born with, along with the 'proper' ways that she could put them to use.
Most of her life, she spent it learning to be good. Learning the way of God, and all the opportunities he had laid upon their feet. How else could anything in this world make sense? So, for a little girl like Lupe - who's entire life suddenly stopped and started upon entering the nunnery - the church became her entire life.
The early stages of her life blended together into a simple, yet befitting routine. She'd wake early enough to beat the roster in their small barn and tended to the animals, followed by going to school and returning home to learn the word of Christ. Her passion for it make it enjoyable beyond comprehension. Missing out on regular adolescent events in exchange for an evening surrounded by the loving nuns that ran the foster home was all she cared about.
She'd been too old to adopt, as were a majority of the kids in the shared home, but while many moved on to different places and never turned back, Lupe remained in the home for as long as the nuns allowed her too. It wasn't until her 20th birthday, when she first began her work with the church, that she officially left the place.
Out in the world on her own, Guadalupe began to really look at the world beyond the pages of her bible. She made new friends, and before long found someone who made her question everything that she's known about herself.
Isabella came into her life unexpectedly and left just as quick. They met when Lupe put out a roommate post, and soon the pair were living together. At first, it was nothing more than glances that lingered longer than acceptable, long nights spent getting to know one another and finding a likeness in their values, which then led to small brushes of their skin that turned to caresses and dangerous sentiments. Lupe scorned herself endlessly, but was never strong enough to stop them. She'd never felt such crippling desire before.
Putting a stop to their dance went without saying though, and while she savored every moment that their touch set her aflame, she knew better than to give into it all. Lupe prayed and prayed for a sign, offering all that she cold give to His will, if only He'd make her see the right path. She didn't realize how cruel a revelation she'd receive until it was too late.
While out on a drive late at night, rain pouring from the sky and thunder clashing against the clouds, Lupe lost control of her vehicle and the pair crashed against a tree. She'd completely blacked out, waking up at the hospital without a single scratch to her body and yet with the devastating realization that Isabella had not been as lucky. Her powers had presented themselves.

Healing. She's able to use up energy to not just herself but others as well. It did use to take a lot from her initially, but the more she uses her abilities the easier things become.
While he mainly ventured shielded within the cloak of his shadows late at night, Benito enjoyed far too much of the scenic beauty that adorned the ruins of The West. It wasn’t something he could see well in the darkness, or even something he bothered to stop and admire when he only ever stepped there for business but that day brought him just before the sun fell allowing him to examine the intricate artistry of its community. A wasteland in comparison to some of the other parts of the island, but in its destructive chaos surged its people’s voices. Murals and graffiti canvased most buildings, elevating the torn down brick buildings and weathering steel.
“ I mean, it’s something. ” he commented, to no one in particular as he made his way towards the edge of the rig where a bottle of bourbon, along with his company, awaited. “ You got any special talents that I should know about? ” Benny asked, offering her a smile as he gestured to the painted buildings just behind them. He hadn’t noticed how lost he’d been in them, enough to have left her side at some point for nothing more than to admire the walls. There was too much happening, and even more to wait for and the deafening silence in the atmosphere made the hair on his neck rise. Something was coming. He just knew it.
“ Certainly, you love to hear yourself talk, no? ” he spoke in obvious jest, though his intonation - to anybody but Jia, of course - would have effortlessly come off rude. Their movie had barely begun, and yet he’s missed more than he’s seen. Between chowing down the buttered popcorn, stuffing his drink with some edible gummies he grabbed on his way to her place, and the excessive narration of the very film they were about to watch. “ What’s the point of watching, when I got you right here? ” he continued, feigning annoyance in a single glance in Jia’s direction.
It’d been a long day. Longer than most in recent times, but Benny for once didn’t want to go to his house. Didn’t want to shut out the world in its entirety, so allowing himself one warm body made do for the remainder of the night. “ Unless… ” Benito grinned, putting down his bucket of popcorn as he leaned back into his seat, as he said teasingly, “ Did you get me here under false pretenses? ”

rosa always found it difficult to navigate the pavements of any place but her home, the west of halcyon island. it wasn't her anxiety, it wasn't some outright threat of the other factions. rather, it was only the realisation that, if she did bump into problems, her family might not get here quick enough to save her from it. she wasn't scared of getting into trouble, just the idea of getting herself out of it was awfully unfamiliar to her. like something she had never even needed to consider.
so it felt like walking on a cloud, somehow. she stepped on the marbled tiles of a far too expensive coffee shop, and couldn't quite feel the ground beneath her because all of it seemed hypothetical at best. unreal. the iced matcha she ordered was unreal too, price-wise. and maybe she lingered on that thought a second too long, because her mind was elsewhere when she turned, and ended up spilling the moss-green liquid all over a man's shirt.
"oh shoot, i'm -- i'm sorry," rosa said. her knees were weak, leftover matcha ran down her fingers as she grasped the plastic cup tighter, but she froze. she made no effort to actually help the man, initially. it took her a long, stretched moment before she turned back to the counter to grab some napkins. "i -- i didn't mean to, i swear..."
“ Are you? ” Benny asked, far more seriously than the situation probably called for, but then again the female looked about ready to bolt and he hadn’t even reacted to her ordeal. He could obviously feel the wet seeping into his clothes, but much like she had, Benito had been too distracted to have halted the clumsy assault. His gaze enthralled by the sheer number of items on the menu that had far more to do with corn syrup and agave than the basic black coffee he had gone there to grab. He should have asked one of the assistants to grab it for him instead of going there himself, but some days he felt suffocated by the stupidity of the people his building.
Lifting a finger to his mouth, he had a taste of the green drink she spilled on him. Matcha. “ That’s one pricey drink to mishandle, don’t you think? ” Taking a step back from the mess that slowly expanded at their feet, Benny rolled his eyes at her yet offered a reassuring smile. “ Don’t sweat it. This is nothing a good shower won’t rid of. My shirt, however… ” The once white button down was certainly going to find itself in a bin. He raised a brow at her, wondering what she thought as he began to undress. A smirk danced not too far from his features, but he suppressed it.
