HI uhm, do humans in this universe still remember earth, or would they think of mars as more of the "origin planet" for humankind, or some other world, or has the concept of a "home planet" kinda just died out even?
Humans in this era are aware of earth and know it to be their "planet of origins", but their current homeplanet is Mars, has been for millennia. Earth and Mars have basically switched roles, Mars having been seeded with Earths conditions by mankind after having rendered Earth inhabitable. Losing the planet they've spent their entire civilization fighting over humbled all of humanity enough to finally put technological efforts into caring not only for their new planet, but one another. Of course the adjustment to a more considerate society still took quite a while (as well as the deaths of countless elites who had a hand in the destruction of their origin planet), but eventually they'd achieve a near utopian society commited to not only repairing the damage to their origin planet, but traveling the stars. Taking them only ≈2,000 years to claim their star system with the discovery of celestial fauna - establishing colonies on terrestrial planets, farming materials off their gas and ice giants and studying asteroids of interests to learn more of what lies beyond. Pretty early into their intergalactic progression would they discover traces of alien history, scraps of destroyed technology, no way of knowing how it could be repaired. Some worried of the implications, but others were excited of the prospect of eventual first contact with another nation of the stars, going to many lenghts to prepare for every possible scenario, most of all hoping for friendly cultural exchange. Being fully prepped for an encounter and having never had the irreparable damage of an alien invasion (that multitudes of much older alien societies have gone through, hence being extremely closed off and unwilling to interact), the moment they detected signs of an active, alien society, they wasted no time trying to make contact, nearly all efforts ignored until humans just showed up on the doorstep of those unfortunate societies. Even in cases where their greetings is met with hostility, it only becomes a research opportunity for humanity, studying their weaponry to create something to counter it, not to mean harm but to be prepared for the next attempt at a greeting. Just as humans evolved as persistent hunters, they've become persistent neighbors. This persistence however would be what brings life back to the universe, uniting multitudes of alien nations to create vast empires, humanity in particular building the foundations for the Galactic Federation, this empire as young as their founders' species.
