Not everything I write is going to be “uplifting”. I am not a positive and inspirational quote machine. I’m going to write angry poems and poems about the four suicide notes I have written and poems about abuse and poems about how crap it is to live with mental illness and numbness and how shitty racism, xenophobia, homophobia and sexism is and how none of that shit is pretty but it’s the truth. It is not a writer or a poet’s job to only say pleasant things you want to read. It IS a writer’s job to write the words that make them bleed.
