" god   don't  make  me  do  the  whole,  flame - on ,  bit  to  get  a  smile  outta  you ."     it's  not  that  he's  ignoring  what  she's  rambling  on  about,  it's  just   ALWAYS  about  that  laser  eyed  joke  they  call  a  leader.   to  put  it  simply,  it  takes  one  to  know  one.  &  it  pissed  johnny  off  to  see  such  a  woman  of  her  magnitude  be  disrespected  time  and  time  again.    it  was  something  they  unfortunately  bonded  on;  problematic  relationships.   being  put  through  the  ringer  whilst  wearing  their  hearts  on  their  sleeves.  it  was  no  good,  but  history  still  managed  to  repeat  itself.

blue  hues  soften  alongside  a  handsome  smile  growing  the  longer  he  looks  at  the  redhead.   "  here's  what  i  think.  first  of  all,  fuck  that  guy.  second  of  all,  who  the  fuck  is  better  than  you?           no  one. "   he  gets  the  stress,  trying  to  move  forward  when  your  mind  is  so  deeply  rooted  in  prior  investments  in  another  soul.   letting  go  of  the  soft  girl,  the  pyro  mutant  takes  a  seat  next  to  the  omega  level  woman    letting  out  a  deep  sigh  whilst  stretching  in  a  smooth  attempt  to  place  his  arm  around  her  shoulder.        " look  at  it  this  way.  you  could  of  married  them,    tried   to  kill  you,  disappeared -  only  to  find  out  that  a  skrull  hid  their  identity  as  a  new  woman  to  attempt  to  still  be  by  their  side  to  hurt  them  more. "    speaking  on  behalf  of  his  own  experience,  divorce  and  now  the  single  life  of            well,  enjoying  self  growth  and  independence.   time  has  allowed  the  man  to  laugh  it  all  off.

it  still  hurt.       &  to  put  it  quite  simply,  would gladly  bleed out  if  it  meant that  the  right  person  touched  him  tenderly  again.  "  you're  jean  grey.  no  one  can  do  what  you  do. "

even  without  the  ‘flame  on’  bit  he  still  gets  half  smile  from  her,  head  tilting  as  she  watches  him  take  a  seat  and  wrap  his  arm  around  her  —  only  because  she  DOES  let  him,  leaning  into  his  side  slightly  and  resting  her  head  against  him.  this  hadn't  been  the  first  time  they  had  one  of  these  talks,  the  only  difference  was  that  they'd  both  grown  and  things  had  happened  in  their  lives.  a  quiet  hum  at  his  words,  she  tilts  her  gaze  up  to  look  at  him.

he's  always  had  a  way  of  making  her  feel  better,  of  understanding  her.  there  were  a  lot  of  regrets  in  her  heart,  being  with  scott  instead  of  him  was  one  of  them.  “and  you,  are  johnny  storm…  desired  by  everyone  ever.”  finger  raises  to  lightly  tap  the  tip  of  his  nose,  smile  widening.  “do  you  think..”  she  adverts  her  gaze  now,  tone  a  bit  hushed.  “do  you  ever  think  about..  what  could've  been..?  like--  i  'dunno..  us?” 

and  before  the  tiny  little  voice  ❲  HEY!  ❳  in  her  head  decides  to  tell  her  that  she's  rebounding  ----  -  NO.  she  isn't.  he's  been  a  constant  thought  in  her  head,  a  gut  feeling;  a  distant  dream  on  nights  when  she  was  particularly  lonely.  this  had  been  a  build  up,  one  that  she  should've  seen  coming  a  long  time  ago.  maybe,  it  had  always  been  johnny.  “i..  i  think  about  you..”

he replies to her smile in kind, warmth upon his lips and tenderness in the blue of his eyes. " jean grey. right back at ya! " what an event this was, a place filled with extraordinary people who shared a common goal. the camaraderie brewing was no illusion, clark felt real kinship towards them, including the mutant before him. " only the one last week. " he offers in good humor, though it was true enough. hazards of the trade. " but i got that under control, thankfully. what about you? you seem relaxed, i hope it means you've gotten some down time lately. i've been keeping up with the latest of the mutant rights battle. it can't be easy to be in the middle of all that. "

“that's  good!”  she  gives  half  giggle  before  she  breathes  out  a  sigh.  it  isn't  that  her  mood  sours,  no,  it's  that  the  question  has  no  answer  —  not  one  that  can  keep  the  upbeat  vibe  of  the  conversation.  “ah…  well..  i've  had  a  little  bit  of  time  to  myself  but  it's  been  busy,  yeah.”  she  bites  her  bottom  lip,  shoulders  shrugging.

“and  no,  no..  it's  not..  it  doesn't  get  easy..  never  has  been,  but  i  hope  it  will  be,  eventually.”  she  does  hope..  she  also  knows  that  hoping  doesn't  get  results,  and  results  are  hard  to  get  in  the  first  place.  what  were  they  to  do  when  the  battle  would  always  be  hard  fought?  “e-enough  about  that  though!  we're  all  here  to  have  fun  and  make  friends,  right?  soooo~  who've  you  been  budding  up  with  lately,  hm?  batman?”

" arms crossed and towering over @pyreonic with embers betwixt the two sparking. jonathan had a few ideas in mind that could essentially cheer her up, but wanted to hear from her own mouth before assuming the level of discourse.    he's  being  his  idea  of  chivalrous,  playing  it  safe  and  not  the  usual  dickhead  persona  that  the  cameras  so  frequently  see.      something about jean made the hothead simmer down and assume a more serious role.   " please? "

the man's hand burns hot, warmer than normal.  his nerves are a bit jumbled admist her presence.   (  i mean, it's the phoenix                who wouldn't feel inferior?  )    still, said hand still reaches forth beautiful crimson hair touching a soft curl before flashing a handsome smile.  the  blonde  tilts  his  head,  trying  to  assess  what  calculations  are  firing  off  in  the  telepath's  mind.

SINGLE  on  valentine's  day  —  for  the  best  being  that  scott  had  cheated  once  again.  cheating,  when  was  the  man  ever  NOT  cheating?  again,  with  that  madelyne  woman.  she's  in  the  midst  of  a  migraine  the  size  of  the  entirety  of  new  york  when  johnny  interrupts  her  disaster  of  a  pit-fall  rabbit  hole.  “johnny?  what  are  you  doing  here?”  she  leans  back  in  her  seat,  furrowed  brows  easing  as  he  gives  a  beg. 

doe  eyes  soften,  nose  scrunching  at  the  hand  that  touches  her  hair.  “mm…  well..  maybe  i'll  let  you  help  if  you  give  me  another  please…”  she  stands,  a  hand  sliding  up  his  chest  and  to  his  cheek,  cupping  it  gently.  “but,  really..  just,  annoyed,  i  guess.  y'know  the  usual…  scott  running  off  to  another  woman  at  the  slightest  inconvience.” 

okay,  maybe  that  WASN'T  how  it  was,  but  that's  how  it  felt!  they  had  argued  over  that  exact  problem  and  what  did  he  do?  leave  and  cozy  up  with  someone  else.  a  huff,  brows  falling  back  into  grimace.  “i'm  over  it..  really..  i..  we  broke  up,  i  told  him  i  was  done.  it's  been  two  weeks..”  sigh.  “i  don't  know  what  i  saw  in  him..  you  were  right.”  hand  pulls  away,  flying  up  to  rub  at  her  pounding  temple.  “honestly,  i  should've  known  it  was  getting  bad  when  even  CHARLES  said  something..”

a  grin  and  a  look  over  her  shoulder,  hand  on  her  hip  as  she  hums  thoughtfully.  “and  what  therapist  did  you  hear  all  of  that  from,  stark?  oh  wait--”  shaking  her  head,  her  eyes  roll.  “suit  up,  or  i'm  bringing  this  entire  compound  down  with  you  in  it.”  it's  not  a  threat,  it's  a  promise.  long  past  being  docile  and  fitting  the  good  girl  image  she  was  supposed  to  have.

why  should  she  have  any  decorum  in  the  face  of  impending  doom?

“chop-chop,  c'mon.  the  day  isn't  going  to  save  it's  self,  avenger.”  teasing  tone  replaces  the  danger  of  her  last  sentence  as  she  turns  away,  waving  her  hand  in  a  ‘come  on’  motion.  “let's  go!”
