Good Luck Charm
Boji found his silver lining to being cursed after all.
The sun had yet to make its trek across the horizon. The night drowned most of the color of the grassy plains. Boji held onto the stead being led by Bebin in search of his comrade. Mitsumata’s offspring combed thru the land and in turn, found what they were looking for.
I am doing the right thing…right? Boji shook that thought out of his head. He made his decision. It wasn’t time to second guess anymore. He un-mounted the horse and took off. Bebin took his leave wishing his short-served King luck.
Growing up as a prince he had a lot to be thankful for. He was privileged in that even with his supposed defect people accommodated him. There were others completely worse off. But…
It wasn’t enough to stop him from being selfish and hurt by the words of others. Words that even if he couldn’t hear them still seared and dug into his skin.
Weak, idiot, incompetent the list went on. It was the same cycle over and over. People who were sworn to his father and by extension him and his family were the same people whose lips read differently than what they communicated to him. Liars who he couldn’t help but love all the same. From his closest people, there was love but there was no faith. That hurt more than the injuries Daida had inflicted on him.
------
“You won that fight and made it look easy.” Thinking of it as false flattery Boji showed his tired smile. He pointed to the rest of his wardrobe so the member of the shadow clan would take his fill and his leave.
“No, I’m not here for that.” Kage’s eyes in that moment reflected what the little prince could make out as remorse.
“I know how this is gonna sound and I get that it’s outta nowhere… I just...I’m on your side alright! No matter what happens.”
------
He didn’t know at the time if those words were lies but he wanted to believe them. He needed it. So he clung to them. He never felt so relieved after crying more tears he became lighter.
His memory went back to the conversation with his teacher (the good one).
“You know why the gas of the underworld entrance didn’t kill the two of you right?” Despa asked while buttering his toast at breakfast. He wondered if they knew of their own predicaments or at least what he surmised himself.
“Uhh, we kinda assumed it must have been knock-out gas.” Kage answered taking a bite of his toast. Boji already cleared his plate and sat listening while wondering if it would be okay to ask for seconds.
“Heavens no, it’s actually cursed gas meant to kill anyone not permitted in the underworld.”
“So you sayin we got lucky?” Kage’s eyes widened from that tidbit of knowledge.
“Well luck may not be the right wording..” it looked like he would have to explain some things.
So curses deflected or canceled one another…It made sense now looking back on it. One of no strength and the other with a body that brought mistrust and scorn from others. Those were their curses. As fate would have it their paths crossed.
“A good luck charm will keep you from misfortune so long as you keep it close."
Good luck charm, encourager, and friend. Kage brought out hope and that gave him the strength he never thought possible. In turn, Boji vowed to always trust him.
“King or not if you find something which truly matters to you. You ought to pursue that something with all your heart. “
Following his mother's words He would make his own kingdom. One that would accept and value them. Would it be possible? Even if it wasn’t this journey would be fun!
Kage was surprised but happy to see his friend. Even with the new goals Boji placed he would back his friend up.
“So you still got even more to learn is that right? Meaning we gotta run off on a whole nother journey now. Hey, you brought some coin didn’t cha?” Kage asked. His eyes lit up at the gold Boji showed in his satchel. “ a king’s ransom!”
“Auggh eh!” Let’s go!
“Wahoo!” They both sprang in excitement with their legs carrying them to their next destination.
“Than-k y-ou!” Boji didn’t need to turn back to know why Kage’s voice was wobbly. Tears were also coming from Boji’s own eyes. thank you. Please stay by my side.
If it meant he had Kage by his side then Boji would be content to remain cursed alongside his friend for the rest of his days.
Notes:
I don’t actually know if there is a theory that their curses cancel each other out in a limited sense but I thought that would be cute for them.
Happy to have found some ranking of kings goodies in the last con I went to.
One of the prize cards from a scavenger hunt. Love it 😍
Nothing More Than Fondness
Last chapter: Flower Crown
summary: “You know, brother, Aidon told me a cute story about how you two met.” Both you and Desha flinched for two whole different reasons. Curious he turned to you. “what did you tell him?” Instead of directly answering him you did the next best thing.
Warning: just very very fluffy. Sorry in advance. first previous
Desha’s feet seemed to lead him to your door again and after minor hesitation, he knocked. The door opened for him to see the twins. Karia looked up at him and smiled sweetly at him. “Are you here for mommy? I’ll get her.” She went off to wake you. That left him alone with Aidon. The boy being perceptive for his age already knew this man was the reason for his mother's tears.
“If you hurt my mother again. I will hurt you.” Aidon glared at him with intensity. Desha could now see more of a resemblance to his features. There was a small amount of pride trickling in for his son’s protectiveness. Along also came a tart bittersweetness that it had to be him on the receiving end of it.
You emerged with your daughter in tow. Eyes hardening once they landed on your late-night guest. “Karia, Aidon, you two shouldn’t be up. Go back to bed.” “Aww but-“ “no buts bed now.” They both hugged you good night and went back to bed.
“Did you come for a round two? it’s late.”He saw your reddened eyes. Guilt now knawed at him knowing he was responsible for that. “No, I didn’t. I came to make things right.” He meant it.
“You are. That’s why you’re leaving.” You pushed back. “No, Not yet, and not without you.” He was going to follow Despa’s advice.
“so here’s what you’ll do… Tell her how you feel” “You’re joking.” “Not at all. Do you think she would have thought someone else would replace her if you told her you loved her the first time? “
“….She might not even feel the same way.”
“Brother I took her hand twice in the past and she loved you both times.”
The time spent with you in the outer forest crept up in his mind. ‘Do I love the father of my children? Yes.’
“I’m not leaving yet till we fix this mess between us. There is something you aren’t getting.”
“Desha. What am I not getting? When you find a suitable partner it’s better that we don’t get in the way.”
“You’re that someone you imbecile! I love you!” Not how he meant to convey it but dammit he was going to say it.
The sound left your throat as you were left dumbfounded. Desha took advantage of that muteness to keep going.
“Do you know how one of my biggest regrets was not telling you before you ‘died’?!”
“What’s infuriating is I want to punch my callow past self for saying those things. I lost so much time with you, my daughter, and my son.”
Tears pricked in your eyes again. Your heart ached back then holding back and now all those emotions hit you once again turning you back into that love-struck girl again.
You covered your face turning your back to him. Giving yourself a bit of time to recover. “I’m sorry, just give me a moment” he heard a sniffle at the end of that sentence.
damn, I knew it…. “The thought of me being in love with you upset you this much?”
“I’m crying because love you too! That makes us both idiots.” You let out a blubbery chuckle. A little voice decided to be included in the fray.
“So you’re our father?“ You both jumped in surprise. “Karia?!”
“Brother and I couldn’t sleep.” Aidon quietly waved from the corner. “Mommy, sound goes thru the walls easy.” your face found its way back to the palm of your hand ashamed you didn’t realize that sooner.
Karia reached up and grabbed Desha’s hand. Her tiny hand made his already big hands giant in comparison. “Can I call you papa?” Her brown eyes matched with her bubbly-natured smile was too much for him.
“I- yes you can” you could already tell she had him around her little finger. Aidon moved from his corner. He moved to his mother grabbing at your skirt. “If you make mother and sister sad I won’t like you….father.” He added the last part before shyly looking away. Desha would try his best to make sure that wouldn’t happen.
————————————————
Seleme your fellow kindred embraced you and your children goodbye. “We’re sad to see you go Y/N” her gaze landed on the king. His mind already translated the silent ‘not you though’ look before Seleme smiled sadly at you again. “Just know that we love you and you always have a place here.”
The old Village leader nodded stoically beside her. “Ah, that reminds me. Seleme you owe me 5 silver. “ Vidu proclaimed.
“Damn it.” Seleme cursed. Vidu beckoned her hand towards Seleme. “Come on now pay up.” “Fine” she took out her pouch throwing it to the old hag. Immediately seeing your confused expression Leader Vidu carried on.
“We bet on who would crack first. I bet the king and Seleme bet you would say I love you first. If there’s one thing I put my money on it’s your stubbornness.” Even Desha had to snort at that. You shot him a look and that only made him chuckle.
You should have known. These people were unorthodox. You also knew you would miss them. You had one place to go before departing.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You boarded the ship the crew saluting you as you made it to your sister’s cabin. You knocked and entered when you heard “come in.” You entered while Sezia looked over some charts like usual and Dolten shined his weapons. Dolten before anyone said anything already made an excuse to go outside. “I uh have to shine other things.” He quickly left the room. Your sister chose a smart man.
“I heard about what you said…..” you found yourself stumbling for your words.
“I’m glad it worked out for you two.” Sezia answered honestly. You still weren’t sure how to go about this. The last time you never got the chance to say goodbye to her.
“You have a fine husband to look after you and keep you out of trouble. So I suppose I don’t have to worry.” Dolten would always be the level-headed of the two while Sezia would always be the passionate one.
Sezia nodded in silent agreement. The downcast look in her eyes brought you back to the young girl who cried in your arms for comfort. She grew up before you knew it and didn’t need you anymore.
Tears fell from your eyes. “I’m sorry, I’m lying I’ll still be worried about you. Please write to me!” Your sister’s bravado cracked too her eyes leaking as well.
“Stop. you’re making me cry too! Remember we’re too pretty to cry.” She said making fun of your usual childish phrase. You both laughed thru your tears having one last hug. “Sezia, take care, and thank you.”
“Same to you sister. If his majesty doesn’t treat you right tell me and I’ll set him straight.” You sniffled finally getting your tears to settle down and grinned. “Deal.”
Once you got off the ship the sight of your children on their father’s shoulders greeted you. Karia waved enthusiastically while Aidon didn’t seem as fond of the height as his sister. Your son didn’t hesitate to go into your arms once offered.
Desha shared a silent look with you. Your face still held evidence of crying. You smiled nodding that you were fine. You meant it. His free hand still held your hand with reassurance that made you feel warm.
The carriage was set and ready. It was time to embark on what would come next. ——————————————————-
You looked at the familiar castle walls that you had wandered around in the past. The interior was a different color. rather than the striking red, it was a lilac color. You preferred the change.
Two familiar men were by the throne. The years had gone by but you were sure you could recognize Desha’s younger siblings.
You placed a hand on your children's shoulders wanting to reassure them. “Karia, Aidon, these two men are your uncles. They are family too. Just like your Aunt Sezia and uncle Dolten .”
Despa looked at Karia with astonishment at the resemblance. “She looks like.. “ “yes I know,” Desha answered his brother.
Ouken knelt to his nephew Aidon. When upon being nervous the corners of his face twitched up into a smile. His fangs were visible for all to see. “You definitely take after your father. Welcome.” Ouken remarked happily to finally see his brother’s children. Ouken’s smile was contagious enough that Aidon genuinely smiled back this time.
“Welcome back to the underworld.” Despa held out his hand for you to shake and you reciprocated the gesture. Familiarity flashed in his eyes. “You’re still quite resourceful and still have a lot of love in your heart for my brother. I’m glad we can get to finally know you.” Despa declared welcoming you warmly.
You stood there somewhat stunned although still politely saying thanks. Desha later pulled you aside explaining your brother in laws power. A lot of it making more sense now.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It had been weeks since then. The children were being taken to town by their uncles in the hopes of spoiling them.
You and Desha when idle chose to spend some time together. The conversation flowed like water. What changed and stayed the same in the kingdom. What you two missed in each other’s absence. You could be spotted walking hand in hand beside one another in the courtyard.
Your Brother-in-laws returned to find you two on a bench. Karia nestled in her uncle Ouken's arms tired from walking. Aidon was next to his uncles. His eyes were droopy but stubborn. Despa recalled something interesting he heard from his nephew today.
“You know, brother, Aidon told me a cute story about how you two met.”
Both you and Desha flinched for two whole different reasons. Curious He turned to you “what did you tell him?” Instead of directly answering him you did the next best thing.
“come here. I’ll tell you the story of my first love. “You beckoned your son over to your arms which he did so happily.
That’s not the story he wanted to hear. He was going to interrupt you til Despa shushed him. Desha glared at his brother while Despa shared a ‘you’ll see’ look. Ouken nodded in agreement.
“At the time I was just a tad bit older than you two by 2 years. My mother was sick and bedridden for days. We had no money. I went out and begged so I could get enough to buy medicine.” You continued on.
“Times were hard and unfortunately, no one could spare to help me. I became so desperate that I went to the one place where I was told as a child I would get eaten if I went. “
“The castle” Your son answered “yes.” You replied. Desha pondered for a moment. Wait..why does this sound familiar?
“I was so tired I collapsed. A young boy alongside his mother with her infant in her arms took pity on me and gave me the money. As I cried thanking them the little boy placed a flower crown on my head. His sweet words while smiling a toothy grin at me were “you’re too pretty to cry.” “
“That’s the story of how you met father.” Your daughter chimed in this time. Even now after hearing the tale so many times Karia still listened intently.
“So it is and I’ve been smitten since” smiling fondly at the memory. Trying to ignore the warmth on your face you didn’t dare look in Desha’s direction. This was a memory that had been locked away in your heart till your son asked about his father. Of course, you would share it. You just never thought you would ever have to say it in front of Desha himself.
Despa and Ouken were grinning from ear to ear while staring at their brother’s agape expression. They both then slapped his back in congratulations.
Back then he wished he knew what became of that girl. If her mother got better and if she was happy. Here she was the mother of his children.
Wait she was already… the gentle affectionate smile that made his heart first beat faster made more sense now. It was hard to admit that he’d been had. Although if it was you he could live with that.
Years ago you chose to see him again due to novelty. Partly to see how he turned out and the other to confirm that all men were disappointing once they grew up. A way to get rid of a crush and let go. Needless to say, it backfired.
Desha was kind in his own way and gave you an out regardless of not needing one. Despite how menacing he acted you realized he was quite a softy. Teasing him was fun and being around him more was enjoyable. You fell even more. It was hard not to love him flaws and all.
Despa then asked his older brother a question. “Brother, did you think the first time was when I introduced you two?”
“When did you- wait you knew she was a-” “yes, of course, I knew. The first time I touched her hand was before your birthday. The second time was at the pub. As far as birthday gifts went I think I succeeded.”
He walked away leaving his brother flabbergasted. You were trying to hold in your laughter and utterly failing this time.
———————————————————- Flashback
Prince Despa didn’t know why he let himself get dragged here. Maybe it was curiosity or the stubbornness of his friend Morton. They both held the same type of taste in bed partners so it was a surprise why Morton wanted to show him the Toru district.
“You need to loosen up. Besides we’re just here for the company. I’ll introduce you to Dahlia.” They were placed in a room to wait. A few moments later a tall blonde woman appeared receiving them warmly.
“Lord Morton! Welcome back sweetling and you brought company. Should I prepare a girl for the night for your friend?”
“Ah no no…! No need for that. Despa is here like me. So just like always.”
“Oh then please allow me to place you two in our care.” She bowed politely.
Dahlia retreated and came back with some playing cards, a bottle of liquor, and a few other girls. Quickly striking conversation with Morton on the politics and juicy gossip around. A Lute played in the background while others joined in having fun. Despa had to admit it was a nice atmosphere.
“Lord Morton, how has your father been treating you lately?” Dahlia asked.
“A bit more lenient than usual. I think he’s betting on me accidentally making an heir here so he’s let up a bit more on marriage.”
Ahh, so it was like that. Morton used this place as a cover for his preferred taste in men. The courtesans here knew but enjoyed his company here nonetheless. Money was money regardless.
If it wasn’t for the fact Satun was hellbent on being immortal perhaps Despa himself would have been pushed to strengthen his father’s legacy if his older brother couldn’t.
“It’s a surprise to see a handsome prince such as you here. A shame that you’re off the market for the ladies.” One of the women, Pema, chimed in. Her comment was directed at Despa.
He brushed a stray hair out of his face nonchalantly as he answered. “Well ladies, both my brothers are single if you want to try to have a go at them.”
“Oh, your brother Ouken is a cute one.” “I can’t believe someone hasn’t snatched him up yet!”
A bunch of the women gushed with practical stars in their eyes about his younger brother. A man who in their eyes could woo a maiden after coming to their rescue.
Despa wasn’t surprised his older brother’s status was primarily ignored. Desha preferred to be in his own company when not performing his duties. A question interrupted his thoughts. “Is your elder brother doing well?” He looked over to the courtesan that was playing on her lute earlier.
“Oh, Desha? He’s fine. Just more or less on the grumpy side as of late. Even with his birthday coming up he still manages to be a sourpuss.”
“Oh is that so? Um, if you could tell him I said thank you.”
“Hm?”
“He was responsible for the provisions, wasn’t he? In the last disaster, I mean.” What seemed to be a confident woman before him while playing shied away once his brother was mentioned.
“What’s your name?” That remark seemed to perk the girl up and she placed her professional mask back on.
“My name is Reko. Pleased to meet your acquaintance Prince Despa.”
“Would you mind if I held your hands?” He was curious so why not have a look.
Not seeing the harm in his request you obliged him. As far as requests go this was on the tamer side.
He wasn’t entirely sure what he expected to see. The short vision of a flowery field with a blushing girl and what looked to be a younger version of his brother smiling flashed into his eyes. A warm flittering sensation filled his chest momentarily. He’d seen enough. An idea suddenly popped into his head.
“How would you feel about thanking him in person?” He waited on your answer.
———————————————————-
You took a stroll to the old lake by the ruins. Lockjaw was on the grass sunbathing with his mouth open. Prince was perched on the reptile’s back taking a nap. You sat down beside your old friend enjoying the warmth of the day and the rustling of the wind.
Desha found you relaxed by your familiar. You took his outstretched hand and pulled yourself up. Missing the mischievous twinkle in his eyes. You found yourself pulled farther than anticipated into his arms. You didn’t think twice and hugged him back enjoying his affections.
“When things were difficult for you, did you hate me? “ you blinked at his question but answered honestly.
“There were times I would regret meeting you but then…I would regret that feeling. You meant a lot to me. that love helped me partly become who I am now.” You said this while placing your hand on your heart.
“You could have said something earlier.” He said, referring to your feelings for him. You let out a dry laugh.
“I seem to recall you said something along the lines of ‘no woman would be with me for something as frivolous as love’? Even if I told you back then I doubt you would have thought me sincere.”
He scratched the back of his head. Much to his chagrin back then he truly did put his foot in his mouth.
“Well, what about now?” He asked. Your cheeks tinted rose at the question. He decided he liked this version of you too. His hand reached your face placing a strand behind your ear “well?”
He heard a mumble of words. “Hm, I didn’t quite hear that” he teased while smirking at your reddening complexion. His hand now cupping the side of your face. You leaned into his touch kissing his palm. “I love you, always.” You intimately confessed.
“I’m all yours.” He filled in the distance kissing you.
notes:
thanks so much for taking the time to read this story.

Chapter 10: Bloodline
Summary:
“Despa!” He jumped slightly. He cupped his hand replying. “Brother?” He heard silence for a little and repeated himself. “Brother, can you hear me?”
“Yes, I can…. I need advice and maybe an extension on coming back.” Well, this was news to Despa’s ears. “Tell me what has developed.”

Notes:
I apologize for the delay I’ve been somewhat distracted. My dog got sick with an infection but he’s feeling better now. I’m not that confident in how I wrote this but I didn’t wanna just keep stalling. That's how I got stuck with the other one 😅
The day of the expected attack was here. Everyone assembled at their designated points.
At the center, Seleme and elder Vidu would be with the civilians inside the village. the tigers, Saber and Kato, acting as guardians. Sezia and most of her crew were with you in the middle ranks. Desha and his soldiers were placed on the front lines, ready for whatever came from the outside. You were in charge of correspondence between the three.
The king and his soldiers maintained formation. The silent anticipation of an unknown enemy shrouded the atmosphere yet his soldiers hid it best. Their skills and reputation would be on display this day. He expected nothing less from his men.
It was unfortunate things didn’t go as planned.
A crow darted towards him squawking a message that left him unsettled. “Caw! The enemies are in the middle ranks. Goblins riding on the backs of wolves. Careful with ambush attacks!”
Great. Desha hated feral goblins. They were deviant menaces. After killing men they took women to mate and children to eat. That explained the tragedy of the two villages.
Something felt off. How did the goblins get past? You should have been able to detect them like everything else so far.
He sent more than half of his men to march inward to help the middle layer.
A scream ruptured thru from two of his men stopping the rest of the soldiers from moving forward. The unfortunate pair fell into a pit trap. The blades at the bottom ensured that whoever fell didn’t make it.
Dread set in at the realization they were cut off from the others. He spotted movement from far off beyond the traps. A cluster of green-skinned forms let themselves be known heading down to where Desha himself couldn’t tread at the moment.
Several bolts of lightning entered the field hitting several Goblins. His body was enveloped in light as he struck his enemies across. It was their opponent's mistake for thinking he couldn’t reach them from across the pitfalls. He stopped when no more were able to be detected by him.
Before he could contemplate his next move a unionized set of squeaks lead his eyes to the ground.
The groundhogs formed into groups in certain spots. “Caw! The markers will help avoid falls!” The flapping of wings receded after conveying their master’s message.
Heh, clever. He rallied the troops with their steps more urgent to make up for time lost. It was time to march and fight. He had to hope the inner formations managed on their own.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The air was strangely silent. The people were cautious waiting on either nothing or an enemy they hoped would fall in battle. The unknown ate at their nerves.
You paced around the area in your group. A weak squeak to your right side turned you around to find an injured groundhog. A scream broke out before you could help the creature. “Ahhh!”
Arrows shot out and struck down two of your people. Sezia cut down the arrows darting in her and your direction with her hooked swords.
Confusion rang thru your ranks till you called upon the dogs and birds to determine where it came from. A hawk took down one archer. It was a goblin. Green skin, muscular, with long sharp ears. Tattered rags for clothes with a nasty look on their face that just oozed the opposite of friendly.
The dogs however were not so lucky. Goblins had brought their pack of wolves with them. The whimpering of the dogs was heard. Scarlet on the wolf's mouth told you what happened.
The wolves charged toward you. “Sezia!” “Got it!” Her hooked sword slashed at the first and hit the second wolf in the process too. The third wolf she wasn’t fast enough for. Sharp jaws were ready to go for her shoulder when an axe slashed into the mongrel's neck decapitating it. Sezia nodded her thanks to Dolten before disposing of the rest of them. Several of the enemies were weakened by the hawks. The rest of the group took them down. You took this time to search the area.
“We have more company!” Dolten shouted out preparing for a second attack.
On the ground, by the trunk of the tree where the first archer was, you found the tunnel holes the goblins used to get in. The wolves had hidden and snuck in by other routes in the forest. Shit. This isn’t what we planned for. If they were here it made you think how long till the civilians were compromised.
You needed to tell the leader and the king. You sent out 2 crows one toward the leader and the second to Desha.
The weakened groundhog alerted you of the hidden pitfalls outside of the middle ranks.
You sent another crow. You asked for the rest of the groundhogs to place themselves as markers for the pitfalls. The soldiers would then be able to avoid the traps.
A crow sent by Seleme flew by announcing to all that could hear it. “Goblins are at the center where the civilians are. They came from underground and wolves surrounded the area. Saber and Kato are down and unable to fight.” Your eyes widened. Your children were there. You needed to go.
Calling the nearest horse before Sezia ordered you to go. You sped away knowing the soldiers were coming. You whistled loudly summoning your murder of crows and hawks to swoop down on any unsuspecting goblins. not only helping your comrades and allies in battle but also giving you an opening to ride undisturbed thru the battlefield. Desha’s ears heard the fierce screech of your whistle.
You charged into the center. the horse had a spare sword in a side holster. Wielding it you cut down all you could on the way. wolves and goblins alike.
A few houses were set ablaze. The mess of debris made it difficult to move. You got down from the horse and let it free. No sight of any people yet or even Saber and Kato.
The growl of a wolf alerted you. Its leering yellow eyes focused on a possible meal. These wolves were unwilling to follow you. Inwardly cursing your limitations you had to contemplate using a double-edged sword.
The shouts coming from your right There were hostages already tied up on the ground woman and children. Once the enemy saw you they turned their blade to the nearest child’s throat. This little girl was no older than your own. Eyes full of fright and tears.
“I’m scared!” Before you could take a step closer her captor pressed the sharp metal closer. You were now surrounded. You couldn’t understand what they were saying but their body language told you they wanted you to surrender.
You took a deep breath and managed to meet the girl’s eyes again. You appeared calm and smiled at her. “It’s ok everything will be alright…I need you to close your eyes please.” You didn’t like what you had to do. The child listened to your words.
You placed your hands up in surrender your head down. The goblin behind you was about to incapacitate you with their weapon. The beast it had come with it bit into its neck killing them.
The wolf behind the girl's captor bit down on his jugular too. The other goblins panicked and started gang up on the rogue wolves when their whole pack started turning on their goblin masters. the wolves even chewed on the ropes of the hostages freeing them and evening the odds. One by one every goblin that had a wolf companion was dead. Soon only the stragglers were still left.
You lifted your head revealing your ember red eyes. “Y/N stop! We’re fine now we have them at bay. Stop using Dominion!” Before you could listen, you sent out all the wolves outside the village.
Your vision started to fade. You fell to your knees. Your magic was nearly depleted. Seleme was calling your name before darkness took over.
The wolves were now out and the rest of the soldiers decimated what was left of the goblins. Desha captured and kept one alive so they could get information and destroy their nest. He didn’t want any repeats.
Word never reached Desha’s ears about your condition till you already recovered and left to the care of your own home. Elder Vidu would later have to clarify those events to the king. “Y/N has a power that Seleme as a kindred does not. Dominion.”
“Dominion is a double-edged sword. She can control an animal against its will at a cost. King Desha, Y/N controlled all the wolves in the vicinity she will need to recover her energy at home. Sezia will be caring for her and watching the twins.”
“Shouldn’t her husband be decent enough to help her or perhaps is he too busy celebrating with the lot?” He was referring to the townsfolk already celebrating the aftermath of their victory on the streets.
“What husband? She’s not married.” Lady Vidu stated like that should have been obvious.
He was genuinely confused. “Isn’t she a mother?” Lady Vidu looked him over in disbelief.
“Sir, I’m sure you’re old enough to know where babies come from that marriage doesn’t necessarily have to happen.” He blushed embarrassed at the insinuation of innocence.
why didn’t you deny having a husband? Could the father have passed away? Annoyance built up inside him now that he had more questions than answers again.
It would have to wait. He had other things to do before thinking about such matters now. Either way, since you rejected him he would have to respect that.
The Elder shook her head, not at all understanding his majesty. She sighed and left him to go check on the wounded tigers. Their mistress beside them with worry even when they were expected to have a full recovery.
———————————————————-
It had been a couple of days since. The underworld forces and Sezia’s crew found the Goblin’s den and eradicated those who resisted. The ones that surrendered would be taken to the underworld and be determined if they could be citizens.
It was rather forward of him but he decided to check up on you on his last night. He would be leaving back to his kingdom come daybreak. Something in him urged him to go. Perhaps it was to say goodbye properly this time.
He didn’t have to make it to your door. You already came outside with a pout. He heard you sigh in frustration at something outside your door.
“Prince! Stop flipping the water bowl!” Your eyes landed on Desha who stared at you lost. He didn’t do anything and that wasn’t his title any longer. It took you a moment before blushing embarrassed picking up and showing the cat in your arms.
“Uh, I’m sorry our cat is named Prince. My children came up with the name.”
The feline in your arms was a plump black cat with a white patch on its chest. Its yellow eyes open wide giving the feline a permanent perplexed look. charming…”-ou” he missed what you said. He refocused himself. “What was that?”
“Um, I said thank you.” you said scratching the cat’s ears trying to distract yourself from last-minute nerves.
“Hm? What exactly am I being thanked for? “
“I…I never really thanked you for coming here in the first place to lend aid. I realize I’ve been rude especially when you risked yourself and the lives of your people for us. “
“You think dealing with measly Goblins is life-threatening for someone of my caliber? I acquired something out of it so don’t waste your gratitude. ” he referred to the deal made with Sezia.
You let out a chortle trying to suppress a laugh not surprised by his answer by now. “Ha truly, that part of you hasn’t changed.“ Only Desha could be humble and still come off as arrogant at the same time. You broke out into a smile now more relaxed.
His heart didn’t flutter this time however the coldness of the night seemed to dissipate for a moment from your smile alone. The twinkling mirth in your eyes drew him in once more.
He was brought out of his daze by a little voice he perceived as a little girl inside the house.
“Mommy, did you get Prince?” “Yes, Karia, stay inside !” Was it his imagination or did you lose some color in your face? “But I want to play with Prince too!”
The little girl who greeted him previously in town ran up to her mother now clinging to her skirts. Her brother ran trying to catch up. A pang of Deja Vu surged thru Desha seeing this little girl.
“Karia, mother said stay!” Aidon exclaimed trying to be the voice of reason even if he was unwittingly disobeying at the same time. “Don’t wanna!” She pouted while reaching for the cat. The feline decided to run away into the house again rather than be in the girl’s grasp. This earned a sigh from you.
Aidon looked up to what seemed to be a giant compared to the child’s stature. Your son was usually calm. That didn’t stop the nervous twitch of the sides of his mouth from forming to be a nervous grin. In that instant, Desha saw sharp fangs much like his own.
Eyes widened and slack-jawed. It was at that point the realization hit hard. The sensation of a boulder hitting him upside the head would fall short.
He now knew why the little girl looked familiar. Karia was a mirror of her grandmother. He’d seen the family portrait of his mother’s side in the castle. There was no mistaking it.
They were his children. You had bared his children. Desha looked over at you trying to read your expression. You looked nervous and a bit defeated. You spoke “Can we speak more tonight? Right now isn’t the best..” this wasn’t a conversation you wanted in front of your children. You didn’t know what was going thru his mind right now but you rather have any possible harsh words away from innocent ears. His eyes rested momentarily on the children before nodding in agreement.
Later that night after making sure your children were put to bed and sound asleep you closed their room door and turned to the surprisingly patient man seated waiting for you in the living area. The silence was eating at you so you decided to break it. “So what’s your first question?”
“They’re my children.” It was a statement, not a question but you weren’t going to nitpick at him. “Yes.” They’re ours.
He pinched the bridge of his crooked nose. This was a lot for him to process. “Why would you keep this from me?” You tried avoiding this like a plague but to no avail. You started from the beginning.
“As you probably already knew I used old contacts in the Toru district to get information on your father’s strategies. I found out I was with child 2 months after you left. I felt sick and went to the physician who confirmed it. So I left the operation formally and decided to leave the underworld.” You continued.
“Dolten left with me and followed to make sure I would be ok. The timing saved my life. I heard Satun and his forces were looking for me but I had fled before then.”
“I couldn’t tell you where I was during that time in case my letters could be intercepted. I didn’t want to jeopardize my safety and others. Once I thought it was clear you defeated your father I did send a letter.”
“I never received one.” He watched your face fall a bit.
“I know….someone else got to it.” There was a pain in that sentence. He didn’t get more detail before you told more of your side.
“Our arrangement was temporary. It wasn’t a life that I could grow with you. Eventually, you’d find someone suitable for you and our existence would get in the way of that. I didn’t want my children to suffer for that. Wars have been fought over less let alone for rights of succession. You have told me yourself that you never wanted children. So I intended to do it alone.”
The clenched fists and the hard scowl were a dead giveaway to how furious he was. Not that you expected him to be happy at this news. “Was I that untrustworthy?” He asked. the offense was felt in his tone. You held firm though.
“Trustworthy or not. My children’s lives and well-being matter too much to leave it to chance.” Not again. Unfortunately, That was far from the answer he wanted. His mouth lashed out with the harshest thing he could come up with at the moment.
“Ha, this takes the cake for you. Turns out your father was right to call you a bitch. Will a broken family be your excuse again?”
You froze. that incident was swept under the rug back then between the two of you. You were prepared for harsh remarks. It didn’t stop the knot in your chest or the stinging in your eyes before tears could come.
You let out a deep breath. Careful not to let out the sob that wanted to come out. Your eyes were blank and cold as you engaged him.
“Leave. pretend you didn’t see this and just forget. We were fine before you and we will be fine without you.” You spoke clearly despite the words slicing you inside. Making sure he understood every syllable with no mistakes. Unable to repeat yourself for fear the words would turn into a mess.
He stood still for a moment. Maybe you were right. He never thought two beings so beautiful and innocent could come from him. His presence alone would poison them. He had no clue how to be a loving father. He could only go on the wretched example of his sire.
“Fine by me” He was going to follow your suggestion. He would take himself and his soldiers back to his kingdom and set off tomorrow. With that, he turned his back to you and left. The sob that you held in earlier finally escaped along with tears.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He was getting his things ready when one of the soldiers announced he had a visitor. He had enough of this village. He was going to tell them to turn them away when Sezia brushed past along with a sheepish-looking Dolten.
His tone already told her he wasn’t in the mood. “What do you want?”
“Lord Desha… I owe you an apology.”
Sezia looked remorseful like a kicked puppy. Her husband Dolten by her side squeezed her hand in reassurance.
“What for? Make it fast. I don’t have time for this.”
“I said something cruel to you years ago when you had to make a tough choice. I… I’m ashamed to say I saw the world as light and dark only.” He instantly knew what she was talking about. The Gigantes child… He turned back to what he was doing.
“That was a long time ago what does it matter now?” He scowled annoyed at this being brought up. He lived with it. she could let it go.
She expected him to brush it off but she couldn’t. “Because it wasn’t just you that I insulted with my childish morality. When Arges came and kidnapped Y/N while Dolten hid protecting my niece and nephew. The bastard had her tortured and forced her to watch people die since she refused to give up their location.”
The king froze. Desha’s head slowly turned back to Sezia’s direction trying to process what he just heard. Now having his full attention she continued. Breaking her promise.
“Arges wanted to continue to look for immortality using Karia and Aidon because of your bloodline. I couldn’t find her till after that aftermath. Seleme saved her after hearing her cry for help thru her animals.” She continued with more sorrow in her words. The new information only seemed to make the insides of his stomach clench.
“When I told my sister what I said to you she looked at me with such a betrayed expression.” Sezia could still picture the hurt in your eyes. The memory came back to her.
“So am I a bad person? I let men use my body to get money regardless if it fed my family. I chose to let innocent people die to save my babies. Am I a monster too?”
“That’s different!”
“No, it’s not! The world isn’t just right and wrong. There are shades of grey in between. For fuck sake you kill people too when you have to. Those people had families too! How did I do such a disservice for you to think like that?!”
“You did what you did for the sake of many to stop a mad god. You live with it just as my sister lives with her own personal demons. I’m not here to ask for forgiveness. Only to say that I’m sorry.”
“Is that why you two aren’t as close anymore?”
She visibly shrunk at her answer. “Yes”
“What happened to Arges?” Most of His father’s old supporters were dealt with a long time ago. Only Arges seemed to disappear from his grasp. He now had a newfound hatred for that man.
“That was the first time she used Dominion. My sister commanded the tigers to tear him apart.” To Desha that death was still too merciful for that individual.
“There’s nothing to forgive that was a long time ago. Don’t waste my time with this again.” He had something he needed to do now. Sezia knowing she overstayed her welcome left along with her husband by her side.
Desha started to have second thoughts as he headed toward your home again. The last time he was there wasn’t a good experience for lack of a better term. ————————————————
Despa was at the castle library working on his studies. With Ouken filling in for Desha, Despa stayed close in case his younger brother needed assistance.
“Tell me what has developed.” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“You’re telling me I’m an uncle?!”
“Despa focus on the matter.”
“Right right, uh so here’s what you’ll do…”
Notes:
Hopefully, they can work it out. The next chapter will mention more about your first meeting with Desha.

TW: NSFW, violence and sex.
Everything hurt. No food. No water. No freedom. The silence was your only comfort in confinement. Noise meant that man was near and the whole ordeal would start again. Someone would die as a consequence while you remained trying not to break. No matter how many jagged cracks there were you held. You had to.
The cool stone floor on the ground and the warm light from the small window were what mostly consisted of your jail. Escape was nowhere in sight. You could only wait for what seemed like the inevitable.
If it meant they were safe you would take your death and hope it would come soon.
The light from the window flickered momentarily. Perhaps it was an illusion of the mind. Clinging onto false hope no matter how small you pleaded to whatever being or deity that could save you and them.
Help, please. just please help me and keep them safe.
What little light flowed thru the window was now blocked. Ignoring the unease and pain you slowly turned around to be faced with four slitted eyes by the window.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Perched in the trees on the thick branches. You closed your eyes and opened your other extended senses. One of the hawks in the sky shared its sight with you. You had a literal bird’s eye view of the village and the forest surrounding it. The tigers, Saber and Kato, were prowling the areas with Seleme.
You sensed a presence heading in your direction that you had been continuously avoiding. He’s persistent. you finally relented with a sigh. You looked down from the tree to where he stood. “Is there something you need your majesty?”
“Few moments of your time”
You came down carefully. You brushed yourself off and faced him with a blank stare. “Then how may I be of service.” Does she have to be so icy with me?
“Is there a place we can be alone for this conversation?”
“Yes, follow me.” You showed him to a more outward part of the forest. Seleme and her tigers were out of range so you had actual privacy.
“We're away from prying eyes and ears. Can we make this quick? As much as I like to reminisce other things take precedence.”
“I know you despise me. The way I left I don’t blame you. I want to know why couldn’t you at least tell me you were alive.”
“Your leave was necessary. I don’t hate you.” His brows raised at that statement. “your actions say otherwise.” He countered.
“King Desha, It was a long time ago. We were young with a temporary arrangement. That’s all there was to it.” Ignoring how those words pricked like thorns He sighed “Don’t fight.” It was your turn to be frustrated. “We’ve settled this already.” You stated.
“Your Husband should be the only one out there. Both parents shouldn't be out fighting. Think of your children.” He knew he was grasping at straws but it didn’t stop him from trying.
“I am thinking of them. I’m strong enough to protect them and my village.” You ignored the husband part. If he wanted to make that assumption you wouldn’t stop him. It was better that way.
“Then why am I here? Are you strong enough to take me down then? “ That made you pause. He ranked 2nd and even was 1st at one point.
“I don’t recall challenging you.” And you certainly were not going to.
“Then I challenge you” he proclaimed.
“Who said I had to accept? What are your terms? I may just reject you outright if you say I can’t fight.” You exclaimed. You were not going to let him bully you into just being a bystander. People here depended on you.
He thought about it. “You win and I’ll be out of your way and steer clear. I win and you answer my questions honestly.”
“I can agree to that.” Those terms were reasonable. Part of you was curious where you stood against him.
You took your stance and he took his. He didn’t have his club but knew he didn’t need it.
The first thing you did was create distance. Desha charged up Lightning around his body. The little snake that was about to bite him was stunned on the ground. “Those little tricks don’t work on me.” His smirked. This is gonna be harder than I thought you frowned while trying to think up your next strategy.
“Well couldn’t hurt to try! FWEEET!”You whistled out to any animal that would help you. 2 large salamanders the size of horses answered your call.
“Go!” They obeyed charging at him fangs ready to devour. He caught one and tossed it toward the other. Each was knocked out easily as they hit the ground. he took his next step and noticed the ground felt off. He stomped the area hard and the groundhog trap gave way. “Heh child’s play.”
he felt something ding the back of his head. He cast a glance up in the tree to see a few squirrels holding more nuts to throw.
“Really? Is that all-” He grabbed the Ox by the horns just in time not to be skewered. That force would have toppled any other man. He stared down the cattle. His darkened expression worked as the animal decided running away was the answer. I’ve had enough! He sped up and jumped the gap separating you two. Shit! You didn’t have time before you were forced onto the ground on your back.
You weren’t able to kick him in the position you were in. His body over your smaller frame easily overtook yours. Despite struggling he pinned you down effectively. His right arm holding both of yours down.
You were about to call out for another animal to shake him off his free hand moved over your mouth. You licked the hand making him let go. If that's the way she wants to play He took away your second chance at yelling by using his mouth this time.
You froze but quickly melted against him. Your hands were set free and automatically ended up in his hair. You kissed him back just as insatiable as his kisses were greedy. His tongue asked for entrance and you automatically obliged before even thinking about it.
Desha ended the kiss to see your eyes glazed over. Before even catching your breath he was working on your neck. The love bites and kisses felt so good you couldn’t help the sound that escaped from your lips. Your hands made their way tracing down his body. The buttons on his shirt were proving a bit difficult for you.
There was no way you could think straight with your own body feeling hot from his touch.
He gently took the buttons off your blouse. Your undergarment was held together in the front so Desha took it off as well. His hands traced lightly on your stomach then reached your chest.
Taking the right breast in his mouth suckling and pinching the left nipple you started trembling. He still remembered every special spot on your body. With every familiar place, your former lover touched your moans spurred him to continue. An ache between your legs surfaced. Your legs wrapped around his waist signaling what you both wanted.
Desha backed up and sat up on his knees undoing the buckle of his pants freeing his throbbing member from his trousers. His eyes gazed into yours and you understood his unsaid question. “Keep going” that’s all he needed at that moment. You felt your skirt lift slightly and the ripping of your underwear wasn’t a surprise neither was the pleasure of him entering you slowly.
The little shivers of pleasure and cries you couldn’t hold back. How flustered you were in your position with him watching you intently. He drank in everything. Desha was deliberate with his slow pace making sure you felt every inch of his cock. Fully withdrawing only to come back inside.
“Stop teasing me. Ahh.” As soon as you said that he thrust in fully. He was going to drive you insane. His thumb started teasing your folds till finally landing on your clit. He wanted to hear the sounds meant for him. You were left at his mercy.
Desha groaned feeling the contracting of your pussy around his shaft. You cummed crying out his name. He changed his position now his body was fully over yours drilling into you.
You clung to him with your nails clawing into his back moaning in ecstasy. Desha was so close already to reaching his peak. Intoxicated by everything at the moment.
Still sensitive from earlier you were near. “My king, cum in me please!” You begged him not caring for your pride. A primal part took over craving to see and feel him release and fill you. Fuck whatever reasonable restraint he had went out the window. He met his pleasurable euphoric demise obeying your request. His own moans of rapture echoed yours.
Both breathless and sweaty. He peered at you again at your flushed and disheveled appearance. Beautiful. He caressed your lips with his own before he finally pulled himself away. You found yourself missing the warmth when the open breeze blew over your skin.
The high slowly wore off for you and was now replaced with what just happened. Panic slightly set in. You set your skirt and redressed your top. Internally berating yourself for the lack of self-control.
As you were getting up his hand pulled you to him on his lap. His arm loosely around wrapped around your waist.“ leaving so soon?” He shamelessly found pleasure in the sheepish expression on your face.
“I’m a bit at a loss right now, to be honest…” you weren’t sure how to act around him now and this just complicated things. The distance was created for a reason. Genuine honesty decided to pour from your lips. “I won’t lie. I missed this… I missed you.” You confessed.
“So why didn’t you return to me?” He tried not to but you could hear it in his voice. The hurt. You leaned back into him accepting his embrace. He responded by wrapping both arms around you.
“I always planned to leave. it was just sooner than later. I didn’t want to see the woman who would take my place.”
It was one thing to know this was temporary. it was another to see the person you love with another. You were a former prostitute regardless of being a high-ranked one. He deserved someone suitable for him.
No one could ever take your place. I’ve tried and failed over and over. Desha had others in his bed. It was a feat made easier after he became king. Trying to fill an empty space only made it worse. After some time he had enough and stopped torturing himself.
Through all the fleeting nights of pleasure and mornings waking in the arms of another. he still found himself yearning for the same girl who made his heart stutter with only a soft-hearted smile. He asked his final question.
“Do you love him?” “Huh?”
The question caught you off guard so he repeated the question. “Your husband, do you love him?”
“Do I love the father of my children? Yes.” You spoke your truth.
It was settled then. He had to close this chapter regardless of what his heart wanted. He already felt like a scoundrel for putting his hands on a married woman. He didn’t want to destroy a family in the process.
Notes:
For the next chapter I will apologize in advance and say battle scenes are not my forte. I’m gonna brush it up a bit more before releasing it. 😅
Rest assured though the rest of it will still be drama filled.
Chapter 8 Kindred
Chapter Summary: Ignoring his jab at your old profession you countered. “How about a wager? Get one of your underworld soldiers to fight me. If I win, I stay in the battle.” “And when you lose?” He's going to eat those words. You’d make sure of it.
“What were you thinking?!” Your sister yelled clearly pissed.
“Sezia you are the one who wanted him here. I’m following what you suggested. I don’t have to like it.” You responded back calmly as possible not trying to feed her fire.
“Can you try not to chase him away?! Or at least try not to make a king angry?!”
You sighed already over her tantrum. “You are one to talk if I recall but I will reign it in. If only for the sake of my family.”
“Sister,...you need to tell him.”
“Sister, I need you to keep your promise.“
Sezia squirmed. She hated agreeing to it but she did, if only for your signature to get him here. “Fine” she spat out. Sezia marched out of your home making sure to slam the door on the way out.
After all these years your sister was still a hothead. Time didn’t do any favors in that regard or with your relationship with one another. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“So you’re the royal sucker they got to help us?”
King Desha settled on what likely was the biggest pillow they could find in their leader’s hut. He was already still irritated from earlier. He was peering down at the elderly woman, sitting across from him, lazily enjoying her pipe. Did all the women here have to push his buttons?
“They have an old crone like you leading?” He said sardonically. He would leave the diplomacy to Despa. It was unfortunate that he stayed in the castle with Ouken.
Granny Vidu cackled causing her laugh lines to become more prominent. Her moss-colored eyes sparkled in amusement. “I may be old but I have the right people. It looks like the same for you.” Huh?
“Truthfully, king I’ve heard many a tale of you. Frankly I rather you an ally than enemy. Although some have protested against having you here. Mostly my second in command.”
“What’s the point in telling me this crone?”
“I want you to know what you are agreeing to. You and Sezia are doing the final decision tomorrow. You should be fully aware of what that entails and know not everyone will be thankful. Do you still want to save the ungrateful?” She set her pipe upside down to her discard tin. Placing new powder and setting alight anew.
He knew the elder to be correct. Outside of his kingdom his name was not so admired as it was feared. It was a reputation he built for that purpose. It took even his kingdom a few years to come around. Little brown orbs invaded his thoughts. The two children he saw today would be part of these people. He flashed to your face and Sezia’s desperate look. Just like Boss Kingdom, He couldn’t turn away from this conflict. The answer came out of his mouth before he stopped himself.
“I will.”
“Well then, you have quite an interesting character. My second in command was right in that regard.” There was mischief in that smile when she said those words.
“Hm? What do I care about what your second in command thinks of me?”
“She was a citizen of your kingdom. Y/N. That your demeanor can rub people the wrong way. Said you’re not nice but are kind.”
His eyes widened slightly. You spoke well of him but you didn’t want him here…why?
“Well, now I’m sure I’ve talked your ear off. Please enjoy the offerings and foods we’ve prepared. Seleme, come join us.” Seleme the woman at the corner that guided him nodded. “Y/N isn’t joining?” Lady Vidu asked.
“No leader. She apologizes.”
“Ah well, she needs time with her kids anyway. Karia is a terror when bored enough. Poor Aidon has to chase after her.” Seleme giggled in agreement. Her attention then shifted to the king trying to bring him into the conversation.
“Do you have any children, King Desha?” She asked. “No,” he said dryly. “Oh well, I’m sure your wife misses you at home.” He wasn’t entirely sure but he felt like that was a passive-aggressive jab. He chose the less passive approach. “If I had a harpy that keeps asking annoying nosy questions then I would never set foot in my castle.”
Elder Vidu side-eyed Seleme in a way that translated as ‘put down that fork’. The woman was red-faced but took that silent advice. “I’m full. Thank you. Enjoy your stay here your majesty.” Although her tone translated it to ‘eat dirt ape’. She quickly left.
Desha smirked at finally being able to rile someone up. He ate the rest of his dinner in a better mood.
——————————————————— You were finishing up some left-behind chores in your home while your children were outside playing with their uncle Dolten. Seleme let herself in just coming from the leader’s hut.
“Y/N, I need you to rethink your taste in men.” You chuckled at her first impression of your once lover. “He’s not that bad and I was young then.”
“And now?” Her large round eyes insinuated there maybe something. This woman was old enough to be your mother but her curiosity for most things outside of her business aged her backward at times.
“Nothing is going on now.” You stated. Seleme didn’t look convinced. “I don’t know…the way his eyes lingered on you.”
“I probably would do the same thing if I saw a ghost too.” You quipped back.
“Okay, point taken. but do you really need to avoid him?”
“Seleme… I love you and you’ve been a good teacher and mentor to me. I say this with love…Don’t stick your nose in this.”
“Fine fine. I’ll be happy to let you know He told our leader he would help.”
This was the way things were supposed to go. It still didn’t make it any easier. Part of you halfway hoped he would leave after your rude parting. “I see…” The brooding stew in your stomach returned. This time the waves of the sea weren't there to calm the fretting.
————————————-
Desha himself knew patience wasn’t his virtue. He found what little he did possess to be wearing quite thin recently.
Any time he sought to get his questions answered you vanished. It had gotten to the point that his subordinates would tell him your location but by the time he arrived, you would have an excuse and be busy or just be nowhere to be found.
Desha looked around the village. It was quaint and full of livestock. It was smaller than the towns inside the underworld but it was lively. It wasn’t a lie that you were busy with work. You were on top of preparations and kept good relations with everyone working together. He would try to be patient for now.
It was a week till the next full moon. His men had been preparing for it and so had the villagers.
He agreed with the leader on most points. The tactical placement was not one of them. Mostly that you were part of the groups in line for battle. Not placed front lines but he preferred you with the regular civilians. Lady Vidu was insistent you be there. After much argument, she decided to settle this.
“Y/N!” She bellowed your name. Which confused him. You weren’t even in the area for her scream to reach you. He was going to label the woman senile when he heard scuffling.
He saw your figure running toward them. You stopped in front of Lady Vidu catching some of your breath.
“Yes, Leader?!” How did she?
“It seems that King Desha does not value your presence in battle. Do you have an opinion on this matter?”
“Not an opinion just fact. I AM going.” You stated with your mind already set.
“For what? So you can entertain the enemy away or play the strings? Heh. You’ll get in the way.” There was no point for him in you possibly getting hurt.
Ignoring his jab at your old profession you countered. “How about a wager? Get one of your underworld soldiers to fight me. If I win, I stay in the battle.”
“And when you lose?” He's going to eat those words. You’d make sure of it.
“IF I lose I won’t fight and you may request of me of whatever it is you so desire. What do you say? I mean you don’t lose anything out of this?”
“Interesting… deal then.” He agreed to those terms.
Your leader interrupted “Saber and Kato are at your disposal to use as weapons.” You nodded in thanks.
Desha picked the squad leader. Dressed in uniform like the rest of his men except for the familiar shaped mustache that resembled his king. He approached you and motioned toward you. “Where are your weapons?”
“You don’t need to worry about that.” You said with a slight care free expression as if you were just handling parchments.
“I will be your opponent. Don’t take this lightly.” He stated unamused by your lack of seriousness.
“Only if you do the same.” For a mere moment, your eyes flashed a bright color. You got into position. Your opponent did the same.
The resounding “Go!” From Elder Vidu started the fight.
Your opponent sprang forward with his halberd and swung towards you. You barely dodged the attacks and got yourself nicked on your arm.
“Looks like you don’t have much to offer in a fight mis- agh!” Desha's eyes caught sight of two serpents slipping out of his squad leader's armor and slithering away. When did she have time? She never touched him. Is she controlling them?
As far as he knew you never delved into magic in the underworld. This was new. “The venom isn’t lethal but enough to slow you down. That’s not all that’s coming though..” a roar echoed out to the field. Two tigers then stood beside you. Each one ready to lunge. You gave the soldier one last warning.
“Will you yield?” You asked to give him a chance to stand down.
“I will not shame my king. I will fight till unable.” The Squad leader’s body felt heavier and his vision was slightly blurry.
“How admirable it’s too bad I don’t want to lose either. Saber!” The feline to your right lunged at the soldier. His halberd was ready to slice it when the other tiger Kato sliced at him with his claws to the side.
The squad leader had to abandon his attack to dodge. As he stepped back the ground under him collapsed tripping and sending him down. Kato took this time to push the man down harder to the ground and Sabers claws destroyed the halberd. Soon after both tigers held him down. Both of their weights were too much for the man to fight off or get up again.
Desha at the sidelines had enough. “You cheated.”
“The animals I pair with are an extension of me. Like your lightning.” One snake that slithered away earlier appeared up your shoulder. You rubbed under its chin giving it affection. “Along with Seleme, I am what they call a kindred. Now does this mean I win? Oh my, I think it does.” You placed your hand in front of your mouth in mock surprise. Your snake opened its mouth trying to mimic your expression adding insult to injury.
He bristled at the loss. “Just don’t get in the way.”
“I won’t, thank you.” You called off the tigers. You helped the mustache-armored man with getting up. On your side pocket, you had a small vail. Handing it over to him you instructed him. “Drink this and you won’t feel too groggy” he nodded.
“I thank you. So you can control tigers and snakes?”
“And groundhogs” motioning towards the small hole that tripped the soldier earlier. “Depends if the animal answers and is willing”
the man rubbed the underside of his armored chin. “Interesting.”
“That was a good fight. hopefully no hard feelings?” Your expression was apologetic despite your gumption earlier.
“None at all Lady Y/N” you genuinely smiled brightly at the armored man for his sportsmanship before nodding and returning to what you were doing before the leader called for you.
The squad leader for some reason felt something was piercing his armor. Unbeknownst to him was Desha’s heated stare.
The now King Desha ruled over the Underworld with his two brothers. After all the chaos with curing Ouken’s immorality and getting back Desha’s memories, all was as well as it could be.
Desha was overlooking a request of summons from an old alley ship he had hired to intercept some of Satun’s supplies.
He was going to decline it when he read your name as the signature. It gave him pause.
After your disappearance he couldn’t confirm death nor could he confirm Satun didn’t take you. Sezia went after any trace of you and disappeared herself. Not before giving him some harsh choice words.
If this was a trap Desha would make the person who dropped your name regret it immensely.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The whispering breeze of the sea and the small crash of waves usually had a calming effect on you. Now it was only mildly succeeding at keeping the Anxiousness surrounding you at bay on the ship.
“Relax Y/N. I mean since he’s coming it means he still cares about you to some extent.” Dolten even with his good intentions, the words did little to help and in fact, made you more worried.
Taking a deep breath you concentrated on what needed to be done. You just had to get in and say what needed to be said and leave. Your part was to get the King of the Underworld to come here and stay till he did what needed doing and hopefully leave soon after.
You could see the knights on horseback from the distance. As the king's cavalry drew closer your nerves were failing you. As soon as you saw his figure in the distance upon his black steed part of you wanted to bolt. Another part ached deeply from the distance. You decided to head inside the ship to steady yourself.
It will be ok. you told yourself.
The underworld forces trotted the main town road alongside their king slowing down so as not to accidentally hit civilians. The seaport wasn’t too far along. As The townsfolk moved aside Desha could feel their eyes on him. Some were curious and others wary.
A blonde little girl in the crowd just smiled and waved to him while pulling at her dark-haired brother getting him to wave too. He wasn’t sure why but she felt familiar. The little boy looked embarrassed by his sister’s unreserved nature. He nodded to them and set himself straight back to his path. The port wasn’t far along now.
He set off his horse and was welcomed aboard the ship. He was escorted to the captain’s chamber.
The captain faced away looking over some charts. Their hand gestured for their crew to wait outside and they followed obediently.
“So it’s been a while, your majesty” That voice…”Sezia?” She turned around wearing an attempt of a smile. “that’s Captain Sezia to ya now King Desha. Now that we’re over introductions. Let’s get to the details before you see my sister since that’s why you’re here.” She didn’t even let him get a word edgewise.
She set down a chart on the table. “We have a problem” As she explained. There had been a series of cargo and passenger ships that had been raided over the past few months. Pirates were an occurrence. However, It wasn’t just thieving. They left massacres with no survivors but would take any woman and children. It was always on a full moon when they struck.
“A few weeks and more than a month ago two towns near here have been raided and all their women and children were taken while no men survived. We are asking if you can give us aid. We have reason to believe they’ll hit here next.”
“Why call me? You’re closer to Gate kingdom.”
“You think I haven’t gone that route? They refuse to help. The last towns were considered lower station so they haven’t moved their asses.”
“I came to you because you’re the strongest man I know. We have goods to offer if that’s what you want.” Looking over at him she could see he wasn’t impressed with what was offered or at least he didn’t show it with his bored expression. She sighed leaning on the table. The tiredness of the situation soaked thru.
“I plead with you sir I want to keep my family safe. Whatever it takes.“ so her sister is alive…
“We can come to a final agreement tomorrow. This port and town do hold some value. I will lend my help where it needs it. We have spare men. How many on your side are ready to fight if need be?”
“We have a good number but so did the other towns. The village leader has been informed already of what’s to come and is willing to cooperate.”
A knock on the door interrupted the meeting. Upon opening the door you entered slowly. You were aware he was here.
“Well met King Desha.” You bowed to the man you once cared for not looking him straight in the eye.
No spells or trickery. It was simply you. Your hair that you often left loose was now tied in a bun adorned with feathers. Your aura held more seriousness and any ounce of a baby face you once had was now gone and matured.
The questions were forming and buzzing. The first words came out of his mouth with no effort to filter them as usual.
“Well met Y/N, nice of you to tell me you’re alive when you need something from me.” He uttered snidely.
I deserved that you thought to yourself. You felt yourself internally twisting. “I apologize your majesty. I figured my presence was not required or needed. I gave the same courtesy you gave me when you left after all.” You didn’t value his poking so you decided to prod back.
“Y/N..” Sezia’s voice held warning in her tone. To which you were not fond of right now. Desha at the moment looked bored even if he was internally ruffled. Against your preference, you softened a bit looking straight at him this time. “At any rate thank you for coming. Your accommodations have been set. Please follow Seleme and she will show you.” You motioned to the lady to your right. You moved on to the next topic. “Also you can tell your reserved men that they can stop hiding.”
“I’m not sure what you mean..” not amused by his words you were not going to humor his antics.
“The 82 men in tents about 10 miles out. They are welcome to set camp here too” Desha had no quip for that. He’d been found out. They were diligent for a small independent village and port.
“Now that we have that situated. I must take my leave” you looked at Seleme and gave her a grateful look as you were heading to the door.
“We’re not done here.” He’d only seen you for mere moments. He had questions.
“Then it must be another time. I must be going. My children are waiting for my return.” If he wanted questions answered it would have to be another day.
It was like a sharp knife went thru and twisted in his chest. What was frozen in his memory suddenly went so forward that he couldn’t catch up. The woman he loved wasn’t dead but moved on and started her own family. Another man took his place by her side.
“I see…then I won’t take more of your time today.“
As you left your mind still stayed on him. He wasn’t the same man. His bored expression gave away nothing. His eyes showed him more worn but still fierce. Almost hardened. The way he presented himself was different. Time moved forward on both sides it seemed.

In a field filled with flowers and sweet memories, a young boy was making a crown wreath for his mother. His little brother nestled in his mother’s arms. Her face glowed happily in the presence of her children. He was rewarded with a smile and a kiss on his head after presenting his flower crown to her. Proud of his work he went to make one for his little brother.
When he was done with the second, little Desha turned to see his mother’s face shocked. He looked in the direction she stared at and saw what looked to be a child on the ground unmoving.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Desha had dozed off while you combed your fingers thru his hair. It felt soothing. A giggle coming from you stirred him a bit from his dream.
“Sorry did I wake you? it’s just I consider this cute. Even when you have a nightmare this calms you down. It’s endearing.”
His head lay on your lap. You had set out a blanket that the two of you rested on enjoying the sound of the wind and ripples of the water of the old ruins. Not too far was Lockjaw on the bank submerged himself deeper into the water.
Desha’s thoughts halted for a moment. It never crossed his mind that you might have been calming him at night. He’d been so sure it was physical intimacy that helped him sleep. It was a gesture of affection that did the trick. He felt like an idiot.
You could feel him getting awkward so you changed the subject to something you’d been curious to ask. “Do you believe in immortality being possible?” He wasn’t his father but curiosity about his thoughts on it did come to mind. Desha didn’t even have to think about it before answering.
“Ha, No. It’s a fool's dream. Even If it was it would take away the meaning and value that life has.” That was more of an answer than you expected so you answered back with your perspective on it. “I agree. Besides, there’s beauty in aging. You see more of a person reflected. Especially their choices.”
His curiosity was piqued. “How so?”
“You know granny at the fish shop? The lines around her mouth are from smiling so much. The roughness of her hands is from her working to take care of her family. The fruit merchant has a scar on his arm from protecting his son from a hawk. This applies to you too.” “Hm really?”
You took his hand into yours. Tracing his palm and fingers lightly. It tickled him slightly. “Your calluses from training so much show your dedication to becoming strong.” “I like your hands. Rough yet tender. Kind of like you.” Your lips kissed his palm affectionately. He could feel the heat on his face build up. “Aww, you’re so cute!” You gushed at him. Your love of teasing him still never went away.
“Knock it off!” He knew this by now too. “Nope, Make me.” And he did. He pinned and kissed you on the grass inciting more giggles from you. He failed to hide the grin on his face as he did so. ———————————————————
Taking a page from Despa, Desha started picking up notable book material. His type of book was irregular. You always had control even when you relinquished it to him in bed. For once he wanted to take you by surprise. His eyes focused on an interesting chapter.
You relished his ravenous kisses while laying beneath him in bed already nude from lovemaking earlier. His kisses were going lower. Once he reached your belly and gently spread your legs apart did you question it.
“What are you doing?” He's not going to do that, is he? This would be a first for you indefinitely. “I’m trying something new. Stay like this. if it hurts tell me.”
You listened fully trusting him. Your legs were spread apart making room. The moment you felt his tongue on your vagina it took everything in you not to close your legs automatically.
His tongue dragged on your labia slowly. He started with sensual flat strokes. You couldn’t keep your legs from trembling. When he started moving his pace and changing his strokes you couldn’t think straight. “Ahh, my prince please!” you weren’t sure what you were pleading for only that you didn’t want him to stop. The pressure of your high was building. When he finally directly played with your clit that pressure burst like sparks thru your body taking your reason and sanity with it.
He knew you came by the way your body quivered in the release and your moans. Instead of stopping he continued more fierce on your now sensitive area still worshipping your wet pussy. Your gasps of surprise and moans escaping were delicious to him. His cock replaced his tongue in your soaked cunt. Each thrust more pleasurable than the last. Your neck was teased with kisses and bites while being fucked thoroughly.
You were overwhelmed. Your mind went blank with nothing but pleasure. His name was the only thing you could form out of your lips other than moans in your current ecstasy. He recognized you were cumming again and his moans echoed yours as he joined you.
Your intimate area was sensitive after that stunt. You were somewhat embarrassed to admit that you were done for the night. Desha seemed content if not pleased with that.
That night you woke up in his arms again. Every time you laid together he never failed to hold you preciously. His eyes were closed and his body relaxed against yours. “I blame you for making me like this.” You whispered to him.
“Like what exactly?” I thought he was sleeping.
You kissed him on the lips before snuggling deeper into him. The words ‘I love you' existed in your heart for him. You knew this already. The words had yet to manifest to your lips. You planned to keep it that way but a part of you still hoped a fraction of those feelings were conveyed when you held him close as he did you.
“Do you hate it?” He asked still half asleep.
“No, the opposite. A little too much.” You would miss this when the time to end this temporary arrangement would arise. Miss him….For now, you would take all of his affection you could get.
—————————————————-
The time had come. The plans were made and preparations were carried out. They used the secret tunnel and recruited more men. Ouken finally chose who out of his comrades would be selected to follow. The Captain, Squad leader, Sezia, and Tsubukade were part of the few selected. Despa found more ally’s in getting supplies. Now all that was needed was to finally start.
He decided to stay at the tavern inn tonight with you. As soon as you tried to initiate past a kiss he stopped you. “Not tonight.” He said. You looked confused for a second.
Is he sick? “Are you unwell?” You asked concerned. Maybe he had gotten a bug you had recently. You still had some herbs to help with that. He shook his head. “No, I’m just tired. Come here.” You just did as he asked.
“Oh, alright my prince.” You nuzzled his chest putting your arm around him. Without meaning to the rhythm of his heart lulled you to sleep.
He would be heading a rebellion. It meant he’d have to leave you behind. Tonight he wanted to memorize the scent of lilies and the warmth of you in his arms. He would send someone for you when the time was right.
Except for a few loyal soldiers, The majority of companies he had hired weren’t a bunch that he wanted you around. He also couldn’t risk telling you anything about the uprising now. Even Sezia was bound to confidentiality. He left in the middle of the night. This time leaving you to be the heavy sleeper.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was Three months into the rebellion. Ouken and Despa were debating on who had to tell their older brother the bad news. Despa was the one to do it. Ouken would be the one to tell Sezia….
“Brother we need to talk. It’s about one of the little birds under our informant for our father’s army strategies.” Desha sitting by his fire gave him his full attention. “What about them?” Despa looked a bit nervous before replying. “We lost them. they disappeared.” Desha sighed. They didn’t need any setbacks like this. “Well do we have more spies or has the whole operation been compromised?” He asked wanting to know how far this would set them back.
“That’s not what was the important part yet though…” his hesitation in bringing up the next information started to make Desha nervous.
“Well spit it out then I’m not getting any younger.” He uttered. If it was bad news he wanted it out and over with to solve it. Despa finally expressed the main point.
“Sezia's older sister, Y/N, was the bird we lost. She helped set up a ring with Toru district courtesans and lower brothels she knew to get information from our father’s drunken soldiers as clients.” He stopped and took a look at his older brother.
Desha’s heart stopped. The tightness in his chest, while his breath froze, was painful. No, it couldn’t be. He left you there so you wouldn’t be involved. He had no idea you would do this. Despa continued.
“She disappeared one day around a month ago. We think our father found out and took her. No one has seen her since. One of the other girls sold her out. I’m sorry brother I know you were fond of her.” Ouken from the sidelines glanced at Desha. He didn’t think he could see his brother go any paler.
Using mere fondness for how he felt for you now was an insult to his reserved feelings. He wanted to hear the words “my king” from your lips someday. You were now just a permanent memory.
“Someday you’ll have someone you love.” He did. Only He never realized it when already he had you. Desha could never say those three words now. He spent that night in his tent unable to leave till his eyes were dry. Unfortunately wouldn’t be the last time he’d shed tears in this war.
Notes
There’s going to be a time skip next chapter. It’s going to show up after Ouken is cured and Desha is king. Because I lack imagination that’s why.

Chapter 5 Too Pretty to Cry
Chapter summary:
Despa took your hand and kissed it to say his version of farewell. You saw a look you couldn’t quite place in his eyes. Not sure what to make of it, you let it go. TW: violence

Despa had been working on plans based on new information his older brother sent him. He was the logistics and Ouken was working on who to select and trust from their soldiers on who would be against their father. Regrettably, right now the numbers were few.
All three took a break today. Once Desha made his way out of the castle Despa grabbed Ouken and somehow convinced him to follow their older brother. Which led them to a tavern inn. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“It’s nothing for someone like me. It’ll heal on its own.”
“Regardless, wounds can heal but pain still hurts. Before we go to the room, I’ll check for some bandages and ointment.”
Desha sighed and just let you do what you wanted. He supposed it was what he got for being sloppy in training the day prior. He spaced out and let an opening for a blade pierce his lower arm. There have been worse injuries in his lifetime. this one would be gone in perhaps a day or so.
Currently seated at a table with you as company. He admired the ale in his cup for a few moments. His thought went to your arm. “How’s your bruise?” He asked.
“Oh, it’s fine thank you. The color purple just doesn’t suit me as it does you. Thank goodness it’s fading.” You joked light-heartedly.
“As a lady, I thought any color suited you. You’re jubilance at times certainly outshines any color obnoxiously.” Desha wasn’t sure if it was the ale or if your jesting was contagious.
Your hand covered your mouth in an attempt to restrain the burst of laughter at his comeback. “Well, I believe you’re becoming quite a smooth talker.” You grinned.
From the entrance, Despa saw a smile working its way on his brother's face while conversing.
Despa gave himself a mental pat on the back. His suspicions were correct. Now to test it.
“Oh hello brother. We happened to pass by and wanted to eat here. Who is the lovely lady beside you?”
It took self-control not to leap like a startled cat from your seat. Desha on the other hand looked annoyed at the intrusion. He at least could play it off as regular annoyance at his little brother's antics.
Being the experienced older brother that he was Desha didn’t buy it. Despa wasn’t a bad liar but he had his little tells. Like the little scuffle with his foot as he fibbed. Sometimes a twitch of the nose. Ouken was the easiest to read which was a good thing he was an honest man. Desha was going to tell him to mind his business when you answered for him.
“Oh Hello, I’m Y/N. my sister Sezia is one of your new soldiers. I’ve been worried about her and your brother just assured me she’s doing fine. “
Ouken piped up at the mention of her. “Oh, so you’re her older sister? She’s mentioned you.” Your eyes sparked up. “Is she eating well? is she taking care of herself?” Ouken politely answered every question about her well-being.
To Desha, it almost sounded like you were a mother rather than a sister. Judging by your gentle manner you would make a great mother….He stopped himself from thinking any further on that subject. He didn’t notice the small tint on his ears.
Now that he thought about it, other than your sister, you never talked about your family. Perhaps on another day, he would ask. You finally stopped your wellness interrogation and excused yourself.
“Ah well thank you so much for indulging me. I’ll take my leave. I hope all three of you have a nice dinner.”
“Same to you dear lady” Despa took your hand and kissed it to say his version of farewell. You saw a look you couldn’t quite place in his eyes. Not sure what to make of it, you let it go.
From the corner of your eye, Desha on the right of you looked calm with his usual frown. His left fist by his side however looked ready to strike an idiot down...his brother being too old for a spanking.
Not one to sit on it you left before the disappointment was left to simmer. Tonight’s fun looked to be canceled by sibling bonding time. You went to the market for food before heading home. Not before speaking to one of the tavern maids before leaving.
Desha later woke up with a splitting migraine the next day in the tavern room with his brothers. When you had gone home he couldn’t very well tear his brother a new one without getting him suspicious. So he challenged his siblings to a drinking game. He bet money and Despa no matter how many losses was still a betting man.
Surprisingly it was Ouken who won this time. Despa was out like a light. Desha couldn’t say he didn’t have a merry time with the tomfoolery. A very small part of him wished you could have joined in the fun. His eyes landed on the bandages that Ouken helped wrap around his arm.
Someone had them sent to the room last night along with ointment. Even Ouken seemed surprised and a bit concerned his brother even bothered. —-——————————————-
He wasn’t entirely sure if his siblings scared you off or if it was something he’d missed.
You had been acting strange and canceled on him lately. In the back of his mind, it wasn’t hard to assume you were getting tired of him. Perhaps you had gotten what you wanted and had no need of him. Regardless of how much he pushed the unpleasant feeling back, It was starting to get under his skin.
His suspicions did not fully set till Sezia requested to be sent home indefinitely for a time. Something was not right. Normally due to her dedication to training, she often had to dragged out when it was over.
He donned his usual hooded cloak and headed to your home. Looking over at the entrance on arrival he noticed a few broken pots and scratches by the entrance. Those weren’t the scratches of a wild animal…
He knocked and waited. Sezia opened the door. The moment she saw him her face mixed between relief and now nervousness. “What brings you here Prince Desha?”
“Is your sister near? I need to discuss some things with her. “
“Well, I can take a message for you…” He didn’t bother to hear the rest of that sentence as his sense of sight took over at the scene of their home. More things were broken and most of it swept to the corner to contain the mess. Dread formed in the pit of his stomach.
“Show her to me.” It was past a request, it was a command. Sezia lowered her head defeated. “She’s in her room resting” Sezia lead him to your room and allowed him to your door.
What Desha saw when he opened the bedroom door froze him in place.
Sleeping in bed knocked out by painkillers. You were covered in bruises along your arms and your neck. Your left cheek was swollen. Further injuries were hidden by the sheets of the bed. Sezia placed her arm on Desha and tried to pull him out. “we can talk. Let her rest.” He followed her request and questioned her. “What happened?” What or who did that to her?
“Honestly It’s… complicated. I will tell you what I know when I come back with the rest of the medicine I need for her. Can you watch her while I’m gone?” Her eyes pleaded for his patience.
On top of agreeing to watch you, he reached into his pouch and handed Sezia some gold coins.
“Forget the physician. Go and retrieve a healer.” Desha wanted to know what was going on and he required to hear it from you. Sezia complied and set off.
Left alone Desha surveyed his surroundings. Your usual homey space was a mess with the corner of the living room piled with broken pots, glass, and even a broken chair with its leg broken and splintered.
Amid closer inspection, he noticed a reddish hue on the ground. He gritted his teeth and balled his fists. Is it her blood?
Silently as possible he entered your room again this time choosing to be seated by you on a chair. While sitting observed the way you slept on your side peacefully. The familiar fragrance of lilies was faint. The sound of your breathing even.
In his thoughts, this didn’t make sense. You had your playful moments with an annoyingly persistent smile on your face. What could have happened? Maybe a jilted ex-lover that couldn’t let go. Did you owe money? While searching different scenarios in his thoughts he didn’t notice his eyes growing heavy from fatigue till he dozed off finally.
You woke up still sore and surprised at the individual beside you. mortified at being found out. The point in avoiding him was so he wouldn’t see you like this. The position he took didn’t look too comfortable either. As your fingers were reaching for him the sound of a knock at the door stopped you.
You urged your sore body from your bed. Carefully not making too much noise not to wake the prince.
The moment you opened the door you felt the pit of your already nauseous stomach drop. “You’re not welcome here. Leave.” You attempted to close the door. His strength however already overpowered you from closing it. Part of you knew he waited for Sezia to leave but did he not see Desha enter?
“Now that’s no way to talk to your father. What happened to the dedicated daughter I loved so much?” He pushed himself inside shoving roughly past you. He knowingly chose the shoulder he had dislocated from another visit.
You felt cornered again. It was as if a python wrapped itself around you with fear and uncertainty. Your Father came back again probably to do worse to you. You mumbled out the words you could becoming more scared as the words left your throat.
“You don’t get to claim me or Sezia as your daughters anymore. Please don’t argue. You have to leave right now.” you didn’t know how long the prince would be sleeping and didn’t want him to be in the middle of this.
He chose to ignore your warning. Grabbing you by the face with his nails digging into your skin. The pain on your already bruised face forced you to let out a whimper. “Aww what was that?” Burning rage filled you but helplessness turned that fire into tears building up in your eyes. The anger in your father’s eyes was unyielding. “Bitch. Do you dare to talk back to me?! This audacity after breaking our family apart?!”
It was sudden. Your face was free and your knees were on the ground as your legs failed you. Your assailant went flying into the corner mess pile of broken pieces. Desha’s back was then the only thing you could see. His figure menacing even from behind. Your ears weren’t prepared for the venom abundant in his voice.
“What’s wrong? It seems the fight has left you. You were so spirited mere moments ago.” He mocked smirking darkly as he lifted the man up by the scruff of his shirt. The man in his hands was trembling from the dark piercing look in Desha’s eyes.
Despite the pain, you found your feet and sprang up. You put your hand on the Prince’s arm. “Desha put him down. He’s not worth it.”
“you still defend him…even if he was the one who inflicted those wounds on you?” The look in your eyes confirmed his guess to be correct. Livid was a term that still didn’t capture the full extent of it. His anger at this man who would beat a defenseless woman and fury at himself for not protecting you encased him. His fists were itching right now.
“It’s not me deciding if he deserves it, even if he does. Look at the man you’re about to lay into Desha.”
He looked and the man before him who was cut up by the shards on the floor shaking like a leaf with tears in his eyes. Pitiful. He took a deep breath and dropped him on the floor with a thud.
You went to your father and helped him up. You then said your peace once he was on his feet. The pain clung to your voice even when you tried to leave it behind. “Our family was already broken….each person just happened to take their pieces and run. You chose money. Your wife chose herself. My sister is my piece and I refuse to let go. Please respect that.”
The man before you looked defeated and he snatched his hand from yours and then walked out the door. His back retreated with a noticeable limp.
Now that he was gone you looked at the spread-out mess. Before you could even think of finding a broom your own foot decided to trip you. Desha caught you in his chest before you fell.
“Thank you, I suppose I'm still tired. Can I stay like this for a little bit?” You buried your head nuzzling his chest while embracing him. You didn't want him to see your face at the moment.
“Yes.” He wasn’t sure what to do. He never was close to anyone other than his own mother and brothers. What would his own mother do? Or even his brothers?
His arms went around you gently much like what his own mother did for him. Still careful not o hurt your body. A warm wet sensation on his chest unwittingly exposed tears. After some time you backed away. No residual tears in sight. Only a tired smile on your bruised face.
“I’m too pretty to cry over this. You got caught up in this disaster. I failed at dealing with this on my own, I apologize.” You shouldn’t have to deal with this! For once he couldn’t voice what he wanted to say.
After the healer took care of you. Your story began while he listened. After you bought your sister from your father in order for her not to be sold off by brothel or marriage, You cut your financial help when you quit selling yourself too. Your father was the one who got compensated for selling you to said place in the first place.
Only your father didn’t accept it. He kept coming for money that you couldn’t spare. It became a ruthless cycle till it finally boiled over to the final result. You couldn’t hide it any longer from your own sister anymore.
By the end of it, the orbs of your eyes were little glassy pools threatening to overflow. Frustration at being weak and a burden to everyone filled you with shame.
At the end of your explanation. Desha nodded stating he would be back.
This time he did show unwanted restraint. It was enough though. After that day your father never came back for you again.
Next chapter is a turning point.

Sezia was now living in the soldier's quarters of the castle. Upon finding out Desha was the prince she apologized for how she acted the first time only for him to wave her off saying that was fine.
Your sister after calming you down decided she rather stay recruited. Satun’s threat lay in the air and both of you weren’t sure what would happen to those who quit. Despite all that Sezia was happy to still be a soldier. She now received compensation for doing what she loved.
You were happy for her but you couldn’t say you weren’t a bit lonely missing her. You had spent so much time with her after you both lived together that it was time to get used to not having her around as much.
You were around the market readying dinner for the day. Finishing up with the last on the list you bumped into what seemed like a wall. Startled you looked up and Desha’s face looked down at you. He was wearing a hood but you could tell it was him.
“Fancy seeing you here. We weren’t meeting today were we?”
“No..” Desha wanted some time away from the castle and even away from his brothers. He loved them but he still wanted time for himself before they wore on his nerves. The plans had hit a bit of snag recently with the lack of hidden supplies they could smuggle. They were limited right now. Another thing he wanted a mental break from.
Following the turn of events since the last time you two saw one another. He hadn’t called for you. Now that he was in front of you though this was your opportunity.
“I have something I want to show you, if you give me the chance, please.” He could see the seriousness in your expression. Reluctantly he accepted. “You had better not be wasting my tim-“Aaaggghhh!”
A woman’s scream jolted the both of you. Her son went over the ledge of the bridge and into the water. The little boy couldn’t swim and the current did little to help. Desha heard a screeching whistle without realizing it came from you before your body moved on its own into the water to get to the boy.
The Underworld was known for ravenous creatures. That also included inside the waters. A shadow formed in the river heading toward the boy and you as you grabbed the child. You started swimming in the other direction as fast as possible. That did little as the shadow was closing the distance.
Desha couldn’t strike it with his lightning in the water without harming you and the child. He wasn’t going to be fast enough to reach you in time. When things could not get any worse a second bigger shadow appeared charging rapidly at the first one. A sudden red hue appeared momentarily in the water. He felt dread the moment the bigger shadow started going towards you. Readying sparks at the choice of hurting you and the boy to get to you. “Y/N!”
The hidden creature formed under you and the boy and rose. A helligator lifted you both up on its back now swimming to shore. The unexpected development sucked out the lightning from his fingers.
“Good boy Lockjaw!” You scratched the base of lockjaws neck. Their eyes closed in content from your affection. Desha almost thought it smiled. Now reaching the shore the boy now out of danger started bawling. His mother threw her arms around him in relief for a moment before affectionately scolding him and declaring her gratitude in the same breath.
A crowd was forming in curiosity of the event. Desha in slight disbelief at what just happened stared at you so blatantly that you got flustered both by his stare and the crowd. “I’m alright by the way. thank you.” You said trying to break the tension and fighting the the heat building on your face.
“THAT is Lockjaw?” The same lockjaw you compared on the same level to a cat prior to this. He thought it to be a dog… “Yup, isn’t he adorable?” You gushed at your animal companion. At that time the helligator decided to let out a deep rumbling growl. The people nearby backed farther away from it. The lumbering size of it almost gave Desha a run for his money. Almost.
Cute wasn’t the word he would use. Though this was starting to give him a clearer picture of you. You were weird. That’s what it was. He thought.

You asked him to meet you at the lake by the ruins. A place you valued for your own alone time once in a while. Once you spotted him you waved him over.
“Before I can show you. I have a question though..how long can you hold your breath?” You asked.
His interest piqued and his eyes caught sight of the helligator in the water watching them.
“That vermin won’t try to devour me will it?” Desha had no issue eliminating it if it tried anything. He had slayed worse.
“Oh lockjaw? No, he won’t. he looks scary but he’s a sweetheart.” The memory of how you met Lockjaw caused you to grin.
Sezia had forgotten her lunch you made special for her that morning. You decided to deliver it to her. The little journey to Dolten’s house took you by a lake.
The gator had emerged charging out of the water terrifying you. After spraining your ankle on a root, you threw the lunch at it trying anything to get it away. As soon as he swallowed the food he became so docile. The Helligator took you on its back to Dolten’s house. The looks you received on the way were quite memorable. Lockjaw had been considered your familiar since.
While undressing to your under clothes Desha’s eyes landed to the purplish color on your upper arm. Knowing what he was looking at you clarified. “Oh, that’s my own fault. It doesn’t hurt much anyway. Aren’t you joining me?” Changing the subject by Motioning to him. He took the hint and started unbuttoning his shirt. He was done with the top and now working on the bottom now having shorts underneath.
Looking over in appreciation at his physique your eyes trailed over him. At night, just candles didn’t really do him any justice. “Admiring what you see?” His mocking tone knocked you out of your reverie. you recovered. “Ahem, nothing wrong with that is there?” Turning around so he couldn’t see the redness of your cheeks. you could practically feel his ego flare up. You were grateful the water was there to cool you down.
Your helligator treaded through the water’s surface stopping by the both of you. You placed Desha’s hand on lockjaw’s tail. “He’ll lead you. I’ve done this so many times that I can swim on my own.” The prince looked like he rather be anywhere but be led by the creature. The same hand gave him a reassuring squeeze. “Trust me” he grumbled a little, sighed, and relented.
You set off in the water and went under. The helligator followed suit with Desha hanging on its tail for direction. The water underneath was clear to see. The little schools of fish flittering by in the water scattered as they swam past them. He kept up with the helligator pulling him along and saw the shadow of your figure from a distance. He could feel the need for air soon how much longer?
His burning thirst for air was quenched reaching the surface. While he caught his breath he almost stopped it again with the scenery before him.
The prince examined the cavern with its glowing moss and fluorescent mushrooms on the walls. Creating enough light in the open spaces of the cave. The ecosystem of the cave seemed healthy for something that didn’t require real sunlight. There was grass and trees and even fruits that looked familiar.
“I come here when I want to be alone. Since this is hidden away no one else comes here. Lockjaw brought me here one day.” to soothe away my tears.
There was an area he could tell you kept for yourself by the base of a tree. a couple of books that looked like a sealed bottle of alcohol, food, and blankets lay neatly in their spots till needed.
He turned his attention to the two open tunnels he could see. He pointed towards them “Those tunnels lead anywhere?”
“Yes, there’s one that leads to the surface world.” you answered him waiting on his reaction. This was the purpose you brought him for.
Desha's expression showed surprise at such knowledge. Satun destroyed all the entrances except the pit determined to keep his subjects from running away. Any who tried and snuck past would be left to the toxic cursed fumes.
“I know if you go to the left tunnel, go straight, and then take a left at the fork, it brings you to a set of huge steps up to the surface. I had time on my hands.”
“Why are you showing me this?” He uttered the question. His tone wasn’t so much accusing as it was genuinely curious.
“I trust you with this place. If the time comes that you need it then I hope it becomes of use to you.”
You didn’t need to delve deeper into an explanation for him to understand the double meaning. The usual melody in your tone that portrayed your playful side was softened. You swayed your gaze to the cave for a bit, in hopes it would chip away at the sudden timidness you developed. I hope this helps.
He looked at you admiring this place as if you hadn’t seen it so many times. The subtle blush in your cheeks wasn't left unnoticed. You were still soaked like him from the water with your clothes clinging to you like a second skin. The white fabric now being seen thru…
“Admiring what you see?” He almost flinched at the retaliation of his own words but held it at being caught. “Nothing wrong with that is there?” He fired off with your own. His smirk now matched your mischievous smile. “Not at all.” you said as you undid the rest of your undergarments.
The next few hours were spent making up for lost time in those past few weeks.
