Is the ear horn thing with Au Ra canon or headcanon, because I’ve just been assuming they have ear holes like any reptile and the horns are purely display oriented, and I’m not sure I really want to switch this up, here

They don’t have any ear holes as far as any written lore goes. There’s no reason why an OC can’t have different physiology for some reason or another, but the general lore-friendly consensus seems to be that Au Ra horns are about like our eardrums, but on the outside of the head.

My personal very-not-officlal, very-obviously-unlearned-of-audiology determination is this: Sounds hit their horns, which are hollow, vibrate within and generate the perception of sound as we experience it, but because their horns are dimensional and project from their heads, they are much more spatially aware of the of sounds around them. Meaning, they can probably give you an a more accurate guess of where a sound came from than, say, your average Hyur, but not necessarily that they can hear better.

Once again, let me reiterate that this is nothing you need follow to the letter. Your OCs are your own, and lore is, in the words of one of my favorite pirates, “more guidelines than actual rules...”
